    Coincidentally, l have just fitted BPD rad guards. I bought the BPD 'fitting kit' and, imo, the rubber bands are not very good so l did the same as on my old 530 - used the 150mm side stand rubbers ...... l used 2 on each side though - as you say, the bolts are the same as the fork guards. The 3 threaded holes in the rad guard are usefull, but l found that the top and bottom position are the better positions. 1 bolt to undo as opposed to 5 and the BPD guards are top quality - the design also allows debris to fall out of the bottom rather than collecting and blockjng the rad. Agree that the TPS cover is also good quality ......... l have also added additional cover to rad hose, but will look on your shop for the TR silicone replacement 👍

    Couple deer at 17:59. Do you often see wildlife on rides like this?

    • @TokyoOffroad
      @TokyoOffroad  3 роки тому

      Yes, saw a lot of deer on the ride yesterday (about 20 total). Also see quite a few wild boar and occasionally serow.

      @@TokyoOffroad a serow you say? That is a rare sighting.

      @@ktmsingletrack2212 - Yes, not so common, but I do see them a few times a year. From Wikipedia: "The Japanese serow (氈鹿, lit. "coarse pelt deer"): (Capricornis crispus)[a] (羚羊) is a Japanese goat-antelope, an even-toed ungulate mammal. It is found in dense woodland in Japan, primarily in northern and central Honshu. The animal is seen as a national symbol of Japan, and is subject to protection in conservation areas.
      Adult Japanese serow stand about 81 centimetres (32 in) tall and weigh 30-45 kilograms (66-99 lb). They are black to whitish, and colouring lightens in summer. The fur is very bushy, especially the tail. Both sexes have short, backwards-curving horns, and are difficult to distinguish by sight. Japanese serow are found in dense mountain forests where they eat leaves, shoots, and acorns. They are diurnal and feed in early mornings and late afternoons. Serows are solitary, or gather in couples or small family groups. The animal marks its territory with sweet-and-sour-smelling preorbital gland secretions, and males and females have separate territories that may overlap. In the mid-20th century, the Japanese serow was hunted to near-extinction. In 1955, the Japanese government passed a law designating it a "Special National Monument" to protect it from poachers. Populations have since grown so greatly that the IUCN Red List of Threatened Animals ranks it "least concern". Complaints from foresters and farmers led in 1979 to the 1955 law's repeal. Since then, the serow has had protected status in 13 designated protected areas over 23 prefectures, and has been subject to culling as a pest outside conservation areas. Conservationists have labelled it a "living national treasure of the forest". Athletes with superior agility and speed draw comparisons with the serow, and the Yamaha Motor Company has marketed the XT 225 and its successor XT 250 dual sport motorcycle as the Yamaha Serow."

    Thanks for the great content, I really enjoy your videos. They have come in useful lately since I've purchased a 2021 300 XC-W and we've became bike brothers.
    Quick question, my bike hits really hard and it's something I'm not used to coming from a 2009 300 XC-W jetted a little rich and running a green power valve spring. Would I be able to run a green power valve spring in my TPI? I haven't done any engine mods besides vforce 4r reeds, and the idle screw mod. I think a red spring may cause it to be a little lean, would a green spring make it ever so slightly more rich than stock with the yellow spring? I don't really love the lack of bottom end and hard hit my bike has, but I don't want to chance hurting the engine since the EFI can't compensate for changes with the power valve. What do you think?

    Nice ride Mark :), good weather also for enduro.
    Have you taken off both screws from the side or just one lower for the rubber strap?

    • @TokyoOffroad
      @TokyoOffroad  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks. It was a lot of fun. I'm not using any screws in the radiator shrouds. The shrouds are held in using the rubber straps only (one each side). You could use 2 rubber straps each side if you prefer. There are three pre-drilled and tapped holes on each guard to install rubber strap securing bolts and I am only using the lowest position.

    Mark, that last part looks familiar, from there I believe you're only a short distance to the parking spot correct? That looked like a lot of fun, until the end for me. lol Noticed the deer skirting off the ridge line as well. ;)

    i see you update your bikes quite often to recent MY's. can i ask why do you decide to stick with ktm instead of experimenting with different brands like sherco or beta? and thanks for the video.

    • @TokyoOffroad
      @TokyoOffroad  3 роки тому

      Yes and no. I still have two 2017 carb model KTM 2-strokes and I have no plan to part with either. But I have been updating the TPI (2019 KTM 250 TPI-> 2021 KTM 300 TPI). Why KTM? Any bike has plus and minus points. Here is Japan both Sherco and Beta aren't so common. My KTM dealer is only 10mins away from where I live in Tokyo and I still think the EXC is a solid bike for the riding I like to do.

    "That's about it" the frame, plastics and half the motor are the only stock pieces left on the bike 😂
