    There are two separate tracks here. Using the official English titles, "Exvulsion / Phanuel" for the first half and "Exvulsion / Galgaliel" starting 5:10 of this video. Contrary to popular belief, Keiichi Okabe isn't the only composer and he works together with his own studio MONACA all the time. These 2 tracks here were both composed and arranged by *Kakeru Ishihama* who is from MONACA. As for the vocals, they were simply officially credited to "YoRHa". So it's a mystery. This is also interesting because the term "YoRHa" is irrelevant in this game and it's only relevant in NieR:Automata which was released years later.

    • @iamcaim
      @iamcaim Рік тому +7

      Yoko Taro was actually already working on the original YoRHa stageplay during DOD3's development, the song Normandy from the stageplay is hidden unused in the game's files. The stageplay was performed live for the first time a few months after DOD3 released.

    As far as I'm aware, what you've been referring to as a lunar tear is the Flower, though they do look similar.
    My favourite part of all the intoner themes remains the transition between the intoner's normal voice getting distorted into the song.

    Keiichi Okabe is indeed the composer, but you'll recognise his style in this game more than Nier, because he got experimental in this one, a bit like how he plays around in Tekken, but though the music may intrigue you, in its current state, it's not the easiest game to grab a copy of, & it's rough. The gameplay loop itself isn't particularly terrible, but the performance is. The frames drop far too much for what the action is demanding. It's a very strange game, as Yoko Taro tends to make them, but it's a beautiful one, & a compellingly tragic story set at the start of the whole DrakeNier timeline (for now).

      @Rixstarian Рік тому +8

      Also, regarding the guitar riff, perhaps it reminded you of Wrath of the Harrier?

      Finishing the video, caught a few other questions to answer. You asked about the audience sizes between Drakengard & Nier, & yeah, Nier is bigger. Automata was the standout game that introduced more people than any other. & due to that, more people are familiar w/ the Nier style soundtracks, & prefer it. I do too. However. The Final Song of Drakengard 3, which you reacted to a long time ago remains my favorite that Keiichi Okabe has done.
      Emi Evans is also the predominant voice of this soundtrack, because it's also mostly in the Chaos language. She tends to have a good working relationship w/ Okabe.

    • @kieran1129
      @kieran1129 Рік тому +3

      There's also quite a difference with the Intoners' songs and the rest of the soundtrack, but that difference make them more impactful to me. The rest of the soundtrack ressembles more what we have in Nier but more triumphant, although "Empty Tone/Aethervox" is definitely something i could hear in Nier.
      However the majority of the OST does not have vocals if not in Intoner Mode, which is a shame because the vocals elevate the soundtrack imo.
      Overall, i also prefer Niers' sountracks but D3 has still one of my favorite OST ever. "This Silence Is Mine", "The Final Song" (& "Kuroi Uta"), "Empty Tone" and the DLC version of "Thirteen Chapter - Closing" are among my favorite across all soundtracks.

    Nice! I've been waiting to see you reacting to Drakengard 3 songs. The protagonist of Drakengard 3 have 5 sisters, named from Five to One, each one with an especific boss battle theme. You should definitely check out their other songs, they are AMAZING, like unbelievably good, it is rare to find in life something with as high quality as their songs' composition, you will understand once you hear them. Although it's Keiichi Okabe that also made the D3's music, it is a little diferent from the music in NieR series. I believe the reason was to better match the game's identity, since D3 is a more violent and visceral game.

    To answer some of your questions It's called Five's song because her name is Five, and this is my theory but I think the title Rising Fool is referencing how angels summoned by her song are commanded to "rise", but also because she's a "rising fool" because in any other setting she'd be called an incompetent ruler, but her people adore her because her whims and greedy nature actually have more positive effects than bad by sheer coincidence

    • @saintfayde4438
      @saintfayde4438 Рік тому +4

      Honestly, I thought the title was less about Five and more about Zero. As in tarot, 0 is the card of The Fool. The Rising part could refer to the fact that Five is the first step in her quest, which is also kind of a foolish one in and of itself. Not to mention the fact that everything to do with the sisters came about from her own foolish decisions. But these games love to play around with symbolism and dual meanings, so I'm sure that is the case here as well.

The whole soundtrack has a constant harshness to the point where the sound of grating metal can be melodic, and the soft voices that ARE there feel out of place and eerie. It's wonderful. The music doesn't feel like a fun romp, it feels like war. And it's perfect.

  • @MagnyusG

    A bit of background on the intro being what it is, the sisters are goddesses who use the power of song. They're names are simply their respective numbers, Zero being the protagonist of the game. So each of their boss themes starts off with them singing in order to summon their respective boss. Personally I love the transition, it invokes a powerful feeling while still being a little unsettling. A running theme in Drakengard (or Drag-On Dragoon as it's called in Japan.)
    I tend to favour calling it 'DoD' over something like 'DG' since there aren't that many if any games that are known by the letters DoD. Otherwise whenever there's overlap with Nier, you'll see people just say DrakenNier.
    Funny you mention Touhou, it's heavily speculated that Yoko Taro either likes or is at least inspired by Touhou. Much more noticable in Nier though.

    So, a couple things as clarification. Nier did in fact happen because of the events of the Drakengard games, but Drakengard 3 actually released 3 years after Nier (and is a prequel to the original Drakengard). That said, Drakengard 3 - while being one of my favorite games ever - is really hard to recommend. Yoko Taro has notoriously had to fight Square for every dollar for his games. The fact that Drakengard and Nier have cult followings as dedicated as they are is really a testament to the writing because the actual game part is unfortunately rough. Drakengard 3 especially has a lot of performance issues where the PS3 struggles to even render the game at times and it honestly runs better on emulation but... legal grey area and all that. D3 is honestly one of those games that I'd suggest watching a Let's Play of to get the story, unless by some miracle it gets a remake.

    Technically, the order of the games is this: Drakengard 3 - Drakengard 2 - Drakengard 1 - Nier Gestalt/Replicant - Nier Automata - Nier ReIncarnation
    The order of production/release is: D1, D2, N G/R, D3, N A.
    Many fans, myself included, are hoping for a re-imagining of Drakengard 1 through 3. With Yoko Taro's recent success and popularity it just seems like a good move. But that remains to be seen. To be honest, I'd be satisfied with a remaster to smooth out the gameplay - which is why I'd recommend you WATCH the Drakengard games rather than play them.
    Maybe you could do a reaction series of sorts?
    Be warned though: Drakengard is far more brutal and depressing than the Nier games. I mean, D1 is directly inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion/End of Evangelion.

    The vast majority of Drakengard 1's soundtrack was made to be as uncomfortable and unerving as possible to the point of making you go mad, which is in tune with the story and the themes of the game. I, unfortunately, do not recommend playing any of the Drakengard games. D1 is Madness, The Game and D2 does not exist. D3 is the only one that i would consider playable, if you can get past the framerate that phase in & out of existence (It can be fixed if you can play it on an emulator). It's really unfortunate because i would have loved to see you against the Final Bosses of D1 & D3.

    Drakengard is set in an alternate universe and at the end of Drakengard 3 theres a secret ending where the final boss tries to escape through a portal and arrives in modern day tokyo, his dragon gets shot down by fighter jets but its dead body poisons the earth and this is what causes the worldwide apocalypse that leads into nier.

    As for the "do you prefer one soundtrack to the other" that's... something of a loaded question. At least for me. Like, Nier has more songs that really stick in my brain, but I do feel like Drakengard 3 has the better overall soundtrack. A lot of that I feel has to do with the story of 3 featuring music as a narrative device (the boss here is literally singing that song in universe, doing all the crazy distortion and instruments with her voice) and thus feels a lot more interwoven with the story and is harder to ignore. Like, I will hum Song of the Ancients as I go about my day, but when my playlists brings up either this song or something like Kuroi Uta, I sit up and pay attention, if that makes any sense.

The music of drakengard 1 is very strange and peculiar, it is closer to "silent hill" than to "final fantasy", it is a music that will never give you a break and that will always make you uncomfortable. While the music of drakengard 3 is an epic music, ideal for combat, it's not bad, but the music of its dlc is simply incredible.

    afaik Drakengard 3 is the prequel to Drakengard 1.
    Drakengard 1's true end(?) leads them shift into another world and destroy the boss in that other world leaving it to disintegrate into particles, which is essentially the premise to NieR Gestalt/Replicant, which itself is the prequel to NieR:Automata.
    The Drakengard and NieR games share the antagonist this way. The white flower entity that likes to copy things. It all fits together if you realize that. FFXIV's NieR story arc heavily underlines Drakengard and NieR essentially being the same series, too.
