Hi Roniann! Thanks so much for your review and sharing your thoughts on our products. In regards to our Activator Spray, we offer it as an option to those that prefer to peel the masque off rather than wiping it off with a damp cloth. It can take a bit of practice and usually works best with a thick layer of the Lip Stain Masque and no more than 2 sprays of our Activator Spray. Otherwise, wiping off the masque the 'Stain & Go' way with a damp cloth works just as well! We also highly recommend using our Lip Color Quiz to find out which shades would work best with your skin tone prior to purchasing so you have a better idea of how each shade would look with each skin tone. The longer the masque is applied, the more pigmented each shade will be, so you have full control over how light or how dark you want the Lip Stain Masque on you! If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask! We're here to help 🥰
Hi, thank you for the feedback and tips! I’ve experimented with the Activating Spray dozens of times, including with a thicker layer of the masque, like with the third color I demonstrated. It just doesn’t improve the removal process or increase the longevity for me personally so I’ll stick to the Stain & Go method. And I’ll keep in mind the color recommendation feature for any future purchases! I bought these last Spring and didn’t notice the option at that time, but I’m curious which shades would be recommended ❤️
Thank God for YT reviewers like you! I'm so tempted by this product, it seems to solve what I need, ie subtle stain on my lips, which tend to eat up lipstick within 30mins, and I hate the paint-layer feeling of 24hr lipstick. But seems this brand makes its $ from people's mistakes in shade choice. Not confident at all in their descriptions nor photos. I was interested in Whimsical (esp if it's orangey - I am warm but my lips throw blue). Until they're available to try IRL at make-up counters for us non-influencers / content creators, I'm not risking buying online. AUD$36 per colour is only worth it for the right one.
Thanks! This is encouraging. I have a hard time keeping up with making videos, but it’s nice to know when they’re actually helpful. I also hate the feeling of 24hr lipsticks. I still wear them occasionally, but even the best ones have a little bit of that dry, thick, yet somehow tacky feeling. I’ve had some commenters say that Whimsical is their favorite shade, but it’s so hard to guess how they’ll look into person without trying them on and $36 is a lot. My studio lighting impacts the colors a little bit and makes them read warmer (which is partially why I added an outdoor shot of the shade). It’s still nothing like what I’d expect based off of the descriptions and photos they advertise with and has a bit of an orange tinge on me. especially if left on a couple of seconds too long 🤷🏻♀️ I’m sure I’d like some of the more blue based shades and I do like the feeling (or lack-thereof) even though they don’t wear very long for me, I just can’t justify spending more money on them right now.
two things: you look amazing with the blue color on and have a lovely lip shape, and I would’ve sworn you had way more subscribers based on the simplicity and beauty of the thumbnail and video
Thank you for the kind words Alexis! Hopefully if I start uploading videos regularly I’ll get pushed out more by UA-cam. Life just keeps happening and I haven’t gotten back into the grove yet. It’s on my list of things to do though!
really good honest review. loved the tips and that you did more than swatch! plus a review on non-fillered lips is great for me since it really changes how products work
A balance and useful review. I've seen a few now and this has been the most honest so far and helpful especially as costs can quickly escalate when trying these products. Thanks
Wish I’d watched you review BEFORE I bought. Your tutorial is excellent. I got three at a not insignificant price so hopefully at least two will work for me?
Thanks, I hope so too!! I think the general consensus is that people usually like them and appreciate the transfer resistant quality more than any inconveniences or grievances 👍🏻 Let me know what you think when you get them!!!
I have not tried this product per se, but with other lip stains I have used my face oil on my lips to remove the color and works really well. 1 drop is all it takes.
Such a great review. I’m concerned about finding a flattering color and assume it is impossible to know how a color will show on an individual until trying. Wish they had sample packs to buy. Thank you, love this review.
I bought three and have tried all of them. I definitely kicking myself for buying this product. I have used a product called Mood Lips since the ‘80’s. It’s a color changing lip stain; ie green turns pink on the lips. Put it on once a day and that’s all I need unless I eat something really oily. I apply City Lips over and it lasts all day. To get good color payoff I have to leave the Wonder product on for 10 minutes. Compared to seconds using Mood Lips. I will say that the color lasts on me all day. But it’s very fiddly and I will never repurchase or recommend
I have to leave the lighter shades on longer for color payoff too. Ten minutes is a long time though! What shades do you have? I remember Mood Lips! I was a kid when I last used it, but it would be fun to try it again. It makes me think of mood rings 🤣 I also LOVE City Lips and want to try more colors. I have three and the consistency and color pay off are great.
I got Sweetheart, Charming and Whimsical. One of them, can’t remember which but I think it was Whimsical, has very little color. I’m thinking of applying clear lip liner before I apply the product so that I can get the lip shape I like more easily. I’m planning to use it up since it was expensive but I wouldn’t bother with something this fiddly in the future
I’m so glad to hear you say your lips tingle a little! I can find very little information about the tingle and couldn’t get a clear answer when emailing if it was supposed to or not!
Just a tip, you aren't putting an even amount on and not enough to make that full mask to remove in one layer. Make sure the whole lip is fully covered and saturated to get it to be more even and come off in one peel. Thank you for sharing the colors!!!❤
Hi Katherine! Thank you for the tip. I think I applied pretty thick layers, particularly with the second two shades, but I will try again and follow up soon. And you’re welcome!
So I love the color Daring in this line. I like that it deepens my natural lip color and performs well on my 59 year old lips. Thanks for letting me know not to waste money on the other products!
Thanks for sharing! Eventually I’ll probably try other shades and will add that color to my list. And yeah, to me, the stain is definitely the best lip product. I also really love their eyeliners though. They’re very pigmented, creamy, and really long lasting. They dry down fast though, so you can’t make a lot of mistakes when applying.
Agree the spray is a waste of money. I exfoliated with my toothbrush and put on my top lip first and will do a second pass and sometimes layer the colors. I like beautiful and new rose. Agree you can not put on like a traditional gloss , I pat on in sections. I like to put on the fat lip oil or city lip clear gloss over it over itThe flower beauty bitten lip stain is just as good. I have issue with transfer of traditional lip or gloss so I have lock it down with stain. Great review. I was rubbing off dry versus wet towel which was causing some unevenness, and hated that spray so thanks for the detailed review.
Thanks for the feedback and sharing your experience with the product! It sounds like you’ve experimented a lot with lip prep and application techniques too. I’ll check out the other stain you recommended and maybe the colors you use in Wonderskin. I don’t want to spend more money on them, but also have a fantasy of finding a color that I love lol. I do like the concept and how lightweight it is, despite the aspects that I feel are lacking. I’m not sure it’s realistic to expect any lip product to check all of the boxes though. I also really like some of the City Lips glosses! I’ve been meaning to do a review of them. Do you have any besides the clear and what are your thoughts?
Paused at 6:07 If you put the lipstain, filled or lining, along the paler lip area that reaches to the edge of you lips, you're doing your beautifully-shaped lips justice.
@@roniannmears Thanks, I decided to give it a try and ordered XOXO, seemed the most everyday wearable with my pale skin. I’m going to try it out with some different hydrating balms on top. I’m not a fan of “too shiny” during the day and would like to find something that doesn’t take off the stain too fast.
@@whatnext715 That's a great shade, and one of our customer favorites! You can definitely apply a gloss or balm over it. Stay tuned for an upcoming release that might also tickle your fancy 👀
I’ve used the XOXO several times now and I also tried “Hayley” for something a little stronger but still low key. I really like this. I’ve never worn makeup regularly and I’ve was perfectly happy with the way I looked. But now that I’m pushing 60, my pale face is starting to blend in with my greying hair, lol. I’ve been more interested in finding products that give me some definition, like eyebrow gel. I’ve tried different lip products but they either fade away too quickly or are too drying. The XOXO is very subtle but easy to apply. I felt like my lips had better definition for at least 6 or 7 hours and I used my lip balm as I usually do. I tried the “Hayley” today. Even though I applied the top lip first and removed it 2nd, the bottom lip is noticeably darker. I like the color but I’ll have to practice with the technique and I think it will be more noticeable if it fades unevenly. I also picked up one of their lip pencils but haven’t tried it yet. I’m looking forward to playing around with these. These may become part of my “new” routine- eyebrows gel, tubing mascara, concealer and lips.
that was a very helpful video, especially that it only lasts for 2h on you😅😮 for the application, I was experimenting with the douglas tattoo forever lip stain.. they might not be the same but it might be worth trying, so what I figured out... it doesn't matter if you leave it on very long, it even might get more patchy but layering new 2 to 3 times in total after wiping made the color more intense (leaving one layer on like 5 min didn't but 2 layers with like 20 seconds each did..).. I assume that it might stain most when it's very moist but no clue.. maybe it helps someone 😊
Thanks for sharing! I’ll make a note of the stain that you mentioned and the application tips with it. I’ve tried leaving the masque on for long periods of time and also doing multiple layers of it. In my experience it has a similar result. The only thing is that once the masque dries, I think it stops depositing color. So another layer could be helpful if someone wanted to darken the color after letting the masque sit on long enough to dry. If that makes sense lol.
Doesn’t last too long on me too. Also, my lips are sometimes slightly chapped and it ends up looking really patchy (more than the necessary considering how little my lips are uneven). With other lipsticks they look super soft. And the way the color looks on my top versus bottom lip is pretty different. I tried varying how long I keep it on before wiping away. 🤷🏽♀️
it doesn't last for me either - I wonder what it depends on, that for some people it does last and for others it doesn't... I bought a few colors though (whimsical, adore, lovely, and charming) and whimsical is my favorite, but I'd like to try divine too - I actually like an orange red because it goes with my skin tone, but I'm not as light skin as you are, I think I'm more fair, so I wonder if it would show up orange on me - I should definitely do their lip color quiz 😅 - but like I said, I just wish they would last longer on me :(
I have no idea! It’s definitely curious how inconsistent feedback on the longevity is. I’ve made sure multiple times that there’s nothing on my lips that could hinder its longevity and it always wears off within a few hours for me, but I don’t doubt others who say it lasts all day for them (and regardless, I still like that it’s transfer resistant though). It’s hard to say how the colors will look on everyone, but I do think Divine would be pretty on a lot of skin tones. How orange it looks probably depends on your skin tone, how long the masque is on for, and the lighting that you’re in!
Interesting. Mine stays on forever and I wake up and it’s still on! I wonder why for some it lasts a long time and others only a few hours. Maybe because my lips are usually dry. Who knows!?!
I wonder too 🤔 The feedback on the longevity is really broad and for the life of me, I can’t get it to stay on past three hours. I’m glad it lasts a long time for you though!
Congratulations! I can’t remember exactly what I did, but my guess is that the eye liner is either Dip Down Fluidline from MAC or if you watch my “Winged Eyeliner Made Easy” video, I could’ve used that technique and a pencil. It looks like my eyeshadow was just a solid shimmery beige. Natasha Denona has great mini eyeshadow palettes that usually have a really shimmery neutral. I use my fingers to press them into the skin for more luminosity and less flaking. I hope this helps!
“A really hard formula nut to crack,” made me laugh 🤣 Some people say that they last all day on them. I wish they did on me. I just ordered more colors to compare. Maybe certain shades last longer. I’ll have to do some tests. What other stain brands have you tried?
@roniannmears I tried a lot of the drugstore options back in the 2010s where everything would stain your lips neon fuchsia after the top layer wore off 😂 things like benetint never really stained and were too dry to wear alone, and maybe I got a dud of a color but the saechu peel off lip stain imparted almost zero color even leaving on the max time. I have been pleasantly surprised with sushy glow bloody tints, they're not advertised as stains but they have a very thin texture that looks more like a stain but isn't as drying, but they do transfer a bit. if I don't blot them at all, they hold up well with drinking and snacks but do wear away with a meal. part of my main draw to a stain is not having any extra texture on my lips so I can see my actual lip texture shine and those do better with that than I expected. I kinda think maybe what marketing promises with stains just not really possible, ha
Thanks for sharing! I’ll have to make a note of Sushy Glow and give that a try. I agree that a stain alone with no moisture isn’t very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. And also, that marketing promises probably aren’t perfectly attainable with stains, or other cosmetics for that matter. There’s generally pros and cons, and sacrifices that have to be made with all formulations. Such is life lol!
You’re welcome. And yeah, same. If there’re any dry patches or deep lines on the lip, it’ll gather and get darker there. Even if I exfoliate. I’m not sure if it’s even feasible for a stain to not do that though. It’s no different than how wood stains darken on more rough and porous parts of the grain. Thats one advantage of just applying a layer of something on top of your skin vs staining it, but then you don’t get the lightweight feel and transfer resistance.
Just bought this just the lip stain and activator but I’m so scared to try it after seeing this. I don’t want my lips to look weird and uneven or patchy. Not happy that it lasts only a couple hours for the price. I hope others have experienced longer times
You might have a different experience than me. Some people really love it and either don’t have issues or the pros outweigh the cons. And I’ve seen some people who say it lasts all day. It just doesn’t for me lol.
Yeah, it seems like it works well for some people and not at all for others. It would be interesting for them to do a two group study to see what the common denominators are!
These unfortunately do not work for me they are gone in 2 hours. and it’s not like you’re gonna reapply the middle of the day at work and walk around with blue lips lol
Personally XOXO made no difference on your lips......although it did look like you already has tint on, unless you naturally have darker stain on your lower lips?
Yeah, that shade is very light on me, but does make a difference. I have a previous video filmed in daylight with that color, if you’re interested in seeing it in different lighting!
Just bought these in 3 shades. Love them. The best part- i can kiss my kids and no mark left on their faces! This is amazing. Seriously!
That’s so sweet ❤️ I love the transfer resistant quality as well!

Thank you. I cant get them to allply evenly on my lips. I hate the patchyness. Live them on you though.
Mine lasts all day and overnight 🤷
I tried one but yeah doesn't last that long. My daughter said hers did though. But I do drink constantly.
Yeah, it seems like it works well for some people and not at all for others. It would be interesting for them to do a two group study to see what the common denominators are!
I was wondering if other people had tingling almost like a lip plumper. good to know its not just me
Every single time! And I can’t stand the taste or that it feels like I sprayed my face with hairspray lol.
I love them, but when I peel it off, my fingers get stained and absolutely nothing will take it off.
That happens to me too and it’s annoying!
I use a nail file (emoty board) to get any stains off from doing artwork. Maybe it will work for these stains.
Everything she said is so accurate.
Does it sting?
I do experience some tingling or mild burning, mostly with the spray activator.
These unfortunately do not work for me they are gone in 2 hours. and it’s not like you’re gonna reapply the middle of the day at work and walk around with blue lips lol
I can relate to that. It’s strange how for some people it lasts all day long and doesn’t last long at all for us. I know it’s not lip prep either.
On me Divine is a true burgundy red. It must be the undertone of your lips.
That’s entirely possible! I’m glad the color is what you expected and a true burgundy on you!
Light rose it looks red to me. All the 3 colours are similar.
I don't like them
Yeah, they feel too similar to me too. It wasn’t worth buying those three shades for me.
