Istanbul is the only city in the world that spans across two continents and only 5% of Turkey is located in Europe.
Turkey today has an area equal to 4% of the area covered by the Ottoman Empire at its peak.
It is the most visited Muslim country in the world.
Turkey is also the only Asian country inside the NATO alliance.
Although being the capital of the Ottoman Empire, Istanbul is not the capital of Turkey. After WW1, the capital city was shifted to Ankara.

Turkiye is not a Muslim country. It is a social, secular republic stated in the constitution. However, these days I can't say it is full secular unfortunately.
There's the difference between "Muslim Country" and "Islamic Country". Muslim country means that the country has muslim majority (muslim is not religion, "muslim" is how people refers someone who believe in Islam, not the religion itself). Islamic country means that the country fundamentals (politics or law) are based on Islam.

@@LumBaxx actually they have. Çanakkale has parts in both europe and asia but it was happened after turks got the city probably. Istanbul was always had parts in 2 continents.

look bro turkey has a majority of muslims of course (probably %80 percent) for example me and my mom are muslims. my mom. my dad was muslim but he is an atheist for 3 4 years and my elder sister is a deist. so, because of erdogan regime most young people converted to atheism. my friends in college are mostly atheist or muslim but they drink vodka like water. i mean yeah majority is sunni mm

Istanbul isn't the only city which separates two continents. Çanakkale city of Turkey is also divided by two sides. One side is Europe and the other Side is Asia. Gelibolu (Gallipoli) is in the European side but the rest of the city is Asian.

I’m pretty sure Istanbul was moved as capital and Ankara became capital due to Greek invasion risk because Greece could take the capital easily so they shifted it to a more suitable and safer place (that’s my guess)
