I was so dangerously short of breath and didn't want anyone to know it. I run, do yoga, do pilattes. finally I told my doctor. He did stays and finally took blood work. I was dangerously low on iron. I ate ice from the moment I woke up until I went to bed. Had an iron infusion and take PROPER iron supplements. Im Back to normal now

Thank you so much! I am breathing very shallow on my CPAP. I got an overnight pulse oximeter and it showed that I'm dipping down into the 70s. I was given another sleep study and they lowered my CPAP pressure. I thought I would go INSANE from the exhaustion after only a few weeks! I could barely hold my head up and my heart was palpitating so badly. I then switched MYSELF back to my old CPAP machine, then months later I get a recall notice on the newer machine I'd been given, stating it's deadly defects. Anyway, here I am months and months down the road, in the same boat I was, feeling as if I'm going to lose my mind. I'm SOOOOOO exhausted. I wake every day more tired than the last. ZERO restorative sleep. When I bring I just probably need some oxygen hooked to my CPAP. Covid has made it hard to seek help, as I've been in isolation. I can now go armed with knowledge when I DO set out to get this fixed. God knows, I cannot continue like THIS.

Hi this may not get to you but I read your comment and can sympathize with your anxiety and the scary and horrible feelings of panic attacks. I hope this explanation helps. (I'm a nurse and also suffer from anxiety) panic attack is the bodies response to the initial hyperventilating (breathing rapidly, breathing from our chest instead of our belly) this sets off a chain of events in the body on a physiological level. When in a state of anxiety or distress we begin to incrsee our breathing, which increases the amount if oxygen in our body, (this also increase feelings of anxiousness,) but lowers our level of carbon dioxide (co2) in other words we breath in oxygen and then we breath out CO2. Low levels of CO2 in the body, causes the body to respond by constricting blood vessels, what this does is decreases the oxygen supply to the brain, causing symptoms such as feeling dizzy, a little confused, our heart starts to pound, chest pains, tingling and or numbness in the lips, hands feet, and heart rate increases, we feel breathless, and scared which then makes us want to get more oxygen so we breath faster.… it's a vicious cycle than if not interrupted by the person by reminding themselves or by helping someone else that is having one, that they are ok, to try remain focused and calm, this will pass and then take steps such as sitting down, change your breathing to slower and deeper tummy breaths or breathing exercises, breath in and out of a paper bag, this increases carbon dioxide quickly and reverses the symptoms, (dizzy ness numbness/tingling, chest pain…) the sooner you recognise that you are heading towards a panic attack and take action the better the outcome. Remember you can control the intensity of anxiety and panic attacks through our breath, I know it's very scary, but it can be done. I wish you well and I hope you are ok. Much love ❤

52 male. For years my doctors still can't find cause of low oxygen at higher altitudes that doesn't get better no matter if I'm there for weeks. Flying on 8000ft pressurized cabin I feel ill and have O2 of low to mid 80s%. Every time i fly. I have had blood clots and OE DVT in past. On Xarelto. VQ scan last year was negative. Heart tests negative. Lungs look okay. Pulmonologist is worthless and says I'm fine. I went to Sedona Arizona and the altitude there was horrible for me the week I was there. Low 80s% even at night wearing my Bipap machine to sleep. Woke up with black eyes. I want an answer and want to fly more. But I dread it. I see 80 to 90 old veterans on the plane having no issues breathing. Who can help me?

I use the Wellue O2 ring to measure SPO2 when I sleep. Do you have any thoughts or ideas and why this might be happening to me? Thank you. By the way I do sleep with the CPAP every night. Not constant air pressure it's used as an apap so it has a low range number and a high range number. Thanks.

Hi Dr, Rutland, I had Covid 19/Sars in August hospitalized for a week, sent home, was having a hard time breathing at home for 2 weeks. Went to ER, told I had PE. Stayed in critical care almost 2 weeks. I am still having chest pain (especially when I yawn) and constant pain across my belly just under /below my breast. I have been taking Eliquis 5mg 2x day, Went back to ER about a month ago complaining of the chest pain and shortness of breath(although not nearly as bad as when I had Covid, and first month or so of PE). I was given something for pain and basically told there's nothing they can do, it's just the consequences of COVID and that I'm probably a long covid patient. Also I'm concerned about this experience I have...I can be just sitting or lying down, and I'll get these, "interruptions" these "trembles" while breathing. It's like I'm trying to get air or something. It seems like that VQ you're talking about. I'd like to know more and how serious is having that? Dr. what do you think? Any feedback would be welcomed and greatly appreciated.

You have a Pulmonary Embolus which IS a V/Q mismatch. You have ventilation without perfusion. The chest pain upon inspiration or when stationary is part of the residual effects. Truly nothing can be done. This can take a yea here from 6 months to 1 year and sometimes even longer. I am sorry you are going through this.

Also CO2 is not strictly a "waste" product. Excess CO2 needs to be got rid of but CO2 is used when combined with salt as pH buffer also cO2 forms nanofoam with H2) and helps as immune shield in the glycocalyx or Endothelial Surface layer That CO2/H2O foam kills pathogens. In other words just like water we need enough CO2 but not too much can have too little. Take water too little- complete dehydration but too much (very rare) can dilute salts too much causing metabolic problems.
