38:49 The Last Crusade Movie Review - Розваги
Elsa is actually my favorite Indy girl because she keeps you guessing. You think she's good, then you find out she's bad, but then there's enough evidence to keep you wondering if she's going to be redeemed. In the end she paid the price for her sins though. Elsa just couldn't let it go.
I remember having such a huge crush on her as a kid XD
Good job with that last line. :D
Like Frozen... let it go.
!oh yes, at the end Jen actually said; 'Schneider, I did 'nazi' that coming'.
The actress who played Elsa, Alison Doody was great playing another villain in the movie RRR. She seems to have aged gracefully as she looks great in that movie
“I thought I’d lost you, boy!”
“I thought you had too, sir.”
Gets me every time. 😢
“2 nerds in a tank” sounds like an alternative music band that I would LOVE to know more about!
"Not his face! That’s the moneymaker!" 😂Love your impromptu lines, Jen! When Last Crusade came out, Connery was still renowned as Bond, a man's man. So this academic/geeky role was really a turn, and the dad-son chemistry amazing. I felt that the Indy movies carried on the mantle of globetrotting adventure that were the Bond movies.
This Edwin genius just said exactly what I’ve always thought, but said it MUCH better than I ever could. 😃 I second u, m’friend
There is a good reason for that. The Bond movies were actually a huge inspiration for the Indiana Jones movies, along with the cinema serials that Lucas enjoyed as a kid. And when it came down to casting the role of Indy's father, their opinion was: "The only man that could ever be the father of Indiana Jones... is James Bond."
Plus he said that he likes this role BETTER than James Bond. In fact he only thought of bond as just a job nothing more he HATED him
"Is this Indiana getting his hat?"
...and his whip ...and his fear of snakes ...and the scar on his chin. Essentially the entire mythos of Indiana Jones was created in one fortuitous afternoon.
"Your father is the one who's disappeared." Jen: "You could have led with that." LOL
The librarian with the stamp gag was my favorite joke when I was a kid 😂 I'm not sure why I was more into that than "no ticket" but I sure loved it!
My favorite was the butler's "I am mickey mouse" just the way he said it always got me
From the mellow music, to the tidy, homey background, to your soothing voice, this is one of the most pleasant, even comforting, reaction channels on UA-cam.
Aw you're so nice! Thank you so much for watching my videos right from the start ☺️🙏
@@jenmurrayxo Hi Jen, are you planning on watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? I may get roasted by saying this but it is not as bad that some make out. I can't say much as I don't want to be a spoiler but you will be pleasantly surprised and you will be ready for Indy 5.
The beginning of the movie, featuring the late River Phoenix as Indy, cleverly explains certain things about his character. His aversion to snakes, his need for using a whip, and the scar on his chin (that Harrison Ford actually has) just to name a few...
That was one heck of a day.
iirc they were planning on river taking over the movie role.
His appropriation of that lead henchman's hat and style... 😅😜
I like how she described the guy with the hat as pretend Indy when he in fact was the one that influenced Indy.
@@tremorsfan It's something I don't like about prequels; they seem to believe that they HAVE to explain every little detail in one short period.
Even with their issues, and Henry only ever calling his son Jr, he knew the one way to reach him when it really mattered was to call him Indiana. He knew that would bring him back to attention and let him know how serious it was that he listen and do what he said. Gets me in the feels.
They named the dog Indiana. Just saying. :-)
@@danwhitehousepc lotta fond memories of that dog though.
I was truly surprised by the chemistry between Sean Connery and Harrison Ford. I didn’t expect this movie to be so damn good. So few “part 3” movies are ever better than the previous movies. Not sure I would call it better than the first, but on par with it. Great movie. Great reaction. 🔥
this is on par with the first one. Doom is a love hate thing. We don't talk about Crystal Skull thou but the new one coming out is supposedly gonna go back to it's roots. We shall see thou
@@1ButtonDash I honestly forget 4 is a thing.
@@dernwine seriously it just felt too different. that one actress felt forced as the villain and her russian accent was horrible. It just annoyed me anytime she spoke. Shia did not feel like a good pick for his son and then who can forget the refrigerator... lol
I'm not when you have two fabulous actors who like each other a great deal on and off screen it's makes for fab chemistry.
Most of the big franchises that are sequential (barring star wars and star trek) have this issue.
I think River Phoenix was cast perfectly as a young Indiana Jones. His mannerisms were bang on. Lost this great actor way too soon
Perhaps he shouldn't have done all those drugs.
Ghb and alcohol do not mix people. River Phoenix killed himself the moment he took that cap of G while already being so drunk he couldn't walk.
@@Cheepchipsable it was GhB not a typical overdose. It was poor advice for doing this stuff after drinking all night long - which is a recipe for disaster. Poison. Like taking a whole bottle of Nyquil after drinking a liter of vodka
too bad his hair is all wrong & ruins the whole movie
Lovw when he gets whacked over the head by his dad... His reaction "Thank God" referring to the vase being a fake, not Thank God youre ok🤣🤣
Fun fact the lion scrne in the circus train serves to: establish Indys interest in whips, and source the scar on Harrison Ford's chin (which he actually received in a minor car accident)
That location at the end, carved out of rock, is a real place called Petra
Considering how good Raider of the Lost Ark is, this is a great third movie. The addition of Indy's dad added a perfect dynamic and the story gives some nice character backstory. I saw it in the cinema and it delivered, one of my top 5 movies ever.
Henry Jones Sr and Marcus Brody are the most under-rated team on the planet.
"Henry! Henry! The pen! Don't you see? The Pen is Mightier than the Sword!"
"You don't sleep with Indiana Jones and then betray him. Im sorry, No!" - Jen Murray
Something to make you go hmm. As a kid George Lucas spent many a days in the backseat of his car, with a dog as his co-pilot. That dog was named Indiana and was the inspiration for Chewbacca.
Very nice review as always Jen, thanks. 👍🙋♂️
Sean Connery was a great Bond and started off the longest lasting franchise in cinema. Dr No was ok but I feel that Gold Finger is one of the true classics and I loved From Russia with love, with Robert Shaw (Quinn from jaws) playing an amazingly lethal protagonist
I despise Goldfinger. It’s the only movie where Bond rapes a woman.
River did such a good job playing Indy, as he had his mannerism down to a science, really made you believe he was young Indy. Sadly, we never got to see him reach the heights of his talents, but we did get a small touch of them in movies like this. RIP
"I would've thought Indiana Jones' dad would be adventurous just like him, but [he] seems like an indoor boy." Indy's dad clearly brought the "professor" side to the genetic table, so it sure makes you wonder what Indy's mother was like, doesn't it? I bet she was quite a troublemaker -- maybe not too dissimilar from Marion! 😝
23:59 "No ticket."
An _exquisitely_ German attitude. Note how _no_ one doubts Indy's authenticity.
Dr. Schneider was played by an Irish actress, Alison Doody (yes Doody, hey it's Irish) and ironically she earlier played a 'Bond girl' by the name of Jenny Flex in the 1985 James Bond film 'A View to a Kill' when Roger Moore was James Bond. Ironic because here she was acting next to Sean Connery, another ex-James Bond.
So cool you didn't hear Indy's friend call him by his name at the begining, I think you were distracted by the phony Indy/Inspirational Indy. Your excitement when you realized that Indy was the kid was so awesome. You really are the best. You should go back and watch the intro again knowing that River Phoenix was his younger version. BTW way River Phoenix is older brother to the "Joker" Joquaim Phoenix.
31:36 You've got to love how Indy's whole demeanor is basically, "What's everyone looking at? Are we just taking in the view? I mean, it _is_ a very nice view."
" i should have watched this with my dad"
she had no idea how true that was.
Supposedly, in the original script, the man wearing Indy’s hat and jacket was Abner Ravenwood, Indy’s mentor and Marion’s father. How cool is that?
I used to wonder about the backstory of that guy, and this explanation makes alot of sense given he had so much influence on him, and couldn't have been just from that one encounter when he was a kid..
The 'can you fly?' 'Fly, yes, land, no' is an amusing callback to Temple, where Willie asks Indy if he knows how to fly and he says 'no, do you?'. So he flies briefly, then they jump out with the life raft. So yeh, he is technically correct 😂
New name for this movie: "Two Nerds in a Tank."
3:30: Jen, the whip hitting his face was an in-joke, explaining how he got a scar on his chin. In reality, Harrison got the scar in an auto accident.
I love that your books on the top shelf are arranged by color.
Psst - there is a 4th movie. The A story is wacky but the B story is one you will love "Crystal Skull". Also I googled if there will be an Indy 5 movie: The fifth and final Indiana Jones movie has an official release date: June 30, 2023. Harrison Ford himself announced the news onstage during Thursday's Star Wars Celebration, where Lucasfilm also revealed the first official look at Indiana Jones back in action. (Final since Harrison Ford is 80)
2:56 "Imagine having a snake in your pants" ...I don't have to imagine, Jen. Somebody had to do it.
Take your stupid up-vote! 👍
Phrasing
Please watch the Harrison Ford movie "Air Force One". It's very underrated.
Yes yes yes yes!!!!!!!
I saw this one when it came out, tho my sister & I might do a rewatch cuz neither of us remember it at all
As great as this movie already is with Ford and Connery and the rest of the cast, River Phoenix as a young Indiana Jones makes it even that much more amazing! A fantastic actor, in fact one of the best and brightest of his generation, River was tragically taken from this world too soon.
If you want to react to more Indiana Jones, I suggest the TV series "The Young Indiana Jones Adventures", it began 3 years later 1992-1993, and ran for two years. It has Indy meeting various famous people through the early 1900's Harrison Ford also makes appearances as older Indy in some of the episodes as he reminisces about his younger adventures. Then if you want to, watch the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, that would be the chronological order as they were released.
Last Crusade easily takes the crown for me as best in the trilogy, you just can't beat Harrison Ford and Sean Connery playing off each other so perfectly as father and son. But if anyone prefers Raiders I totally get it, not as much though if they choose Temple of Doom
and then crystal skull came out and now temple of doom doesn't seem so bad anymore.
@@teentitans0789 Great Scott! He must've used the Delorean! Do you have any idea what this means?! If he traveled back in time and left this comment, there's no telling what other comment sections he might've interacted with! If he left any comments divulging pertinent information about the future it could create a time paradox, the results of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space time continuum, and destroy the entire universe! We've got to go back and stop him from leaving those UA-cam comments!
Basically, they are tied for me. Which ever one of the two I've watches last is my favorite, but if I can, I'll watch them both in one sitting.
Crusade is a fair/bad movie compared to the Temple of Doom, visually it is far bellow and if you compare the intro there is not comparaison, you people are deluded about the last Crusade.
@@romualdasseman9158 lol no
While Sean Connery was excellent in many roles, to the world at this time he WAS James Bond. Bond was the ultimate suave action hero, especially in the 60's and 70's. So seeing the ultimate action hero play against type as a bookworm, who can't believe that his son gets into these Bond-like adventures, just added to the humor and the joy.
In the tank scene, when Connery subdues one of the Germans with a fountain pen, I have to believe that was an homage to Bond's gadgets, especially the fountain pen gadget in Connery's final Bond film. (You'll understand when you see Q issue Bond his gadgets, at the beginning of each movie.)
Fun fact...the guy who played Hitler also played Admiral Kendel Ozzel in Empire Strikes Back. :)
The snake bit with young Indy gave all new meaning to that phrase ‘ is that a snake in your pants or are you happy to see me?’ 🤣
Also that betrayal was very ‘cold’ by Elsa..🙃 And lol at ‘shut it frauline’ 😂
The four of them riding off into the sunset was quite a shot. The challenge was to find a sunset with nothing else in the picture - no trees, no poles, no fences, etc. One of the very few places on earth that met all the criteria was this guy's huge ranch in Texas. Anyway, that's what I read many years ago. I hope I remembered it right.
Funny story about the tank scene. While riding the horse, Harrison couldn't keep his hat on. After several takes, he stapled it to his head.
Jen is extremly smart. She would manage those 3 traps easily. Myself would just die at the first trap 😂
Love when he finds the X in the library... he looks at it on the floor like he isn't sure but it's revealed when he goes up the stairs.... Like, Indy, you couldn't see that it was an X while on the floor? Seriously?
Ya I thought the same thing. A better way would have had him racing around looking for it then while on the stairs have him spotting it from above and "X marks the spot".
@@ronweber1402 The idea was always fine, but the 'X' had to be much larger and maybe in a kind of artistic design to mask the obviousness of it. Otherwise it's always struck me as a silly part of the movie. Still my favorite of the series though.
After watching your excitement over this installment of Indiana Jones, I’m even more convinced you’ll love
National Treasure- there’s a similar father/son repartee, not giving anything away- thats similar to The Last Crusade
Yes! This is my all-time favorite Indiana Jones movie! Rest in Peace River Phoenix.
RIP Sean Connery too.
Hi Jen, would love to see you react to The Mask of Zorro. It's a swashbuckling adventure starring Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. It's a really fun watch!
The decision to make the bridge a simple optical illusion was a clever idea.
9:08 "Indy _always_ needs a sidekick."
And a _love_ interest.
Enjoyed your reaction and love this movie! Most people like "Raiders" the most but this is my personal favorite. It's interesting how "Elsa" falls off the edge towards the end and soon after we hear, "Let it go!" :) Keep up the good work.
I love how when Indy punches someone, it sounds like somebody broke a 2x4 over a side of beef, and whenever he fires a pistol, it sounds like a deck gun on the Bismarck.
The Treasury at Petra looked incredible in this film, really thought it was amazing as a little kid. Still do.
5:53: “Dr.Tyree” was actually the name of one of Harrison’s college professors.
Ha. Interesting, that Jen asks “good guy or bad guy?” the moment Donovan is introduced.
The movie begins in 1912 where it has been a year since Anna Jones death. You have to keep drinking from the cup to stay young.
Jen is almost as excited for a map as she is for explosions.
"I didn't know you could fly a plane."
"Fly? Yes. Land? No."
It's Harrison Ford in real life.
Sean Connery and Roger Moore were and are the most recognizable James Bond actors. Indiana jones and the last crusade is often the favorite among viewers of the Indiana jones trilogy with Raiders of the Lost Ark often a very close second. There is a fourth Indiana Jones Movie released in 2008 called, ‘Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull’ with a musical score once again provide by and composed by John Williams.
According to google it received generally good views from critics and more polarized and likely varied reviews from general audiences. For some viewers the best part of the fourth Indiana Jones movie is seeing Indians jones reconnect with original love interest Marion Ravenwood. I leave it up to you Jen if you want to check it out and decide for yourself if the fourth Indiana Jones movie is a good or at last decent follow up to the original Indiana Jones Trilogy. Love your reaction channel and your movie reactions. I also enjoy your beautiful and sweet personality.
Wonderful chemistry between the two of them in this. For me, this stands shoulder to shoulder with the first film. As always, Jen, your humour and cuteness make this a very enjoyable video. Xxx
Sean Connery gently calling his son "Indiana" always gets me
30:01: The Nazi that gets ink in they eye was played by Nick Gillard -future stunt coordinator and lightsaber choreographer for the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
Now you know where Indy got his fear of snakes and the scar on his chin.
Also, Indiana was the name of George Lucas' dog. The dog was also his inspiration for the character of Chewbacca.
Damn, that must be one messed-up looking dog!
You must have had a blast editing this reaction. Especially going back and watching the first 15 minutes again knowing that was young Indiana. Great reaction as always.
I have an amazing editor Steph G who does most videos now! Lol yes I did figure that out eventually, so cool 😆
@@jenmurrayxo I love your reactions the most beloved expressions xxx
@Jen Murray Indianna Indy was the name of George Lucas's dog he had a Malamute cross Husky that he would bounce ideas off when writing ✍️ hence the reference at the end "we named the dog Indianna." "You were named after the dog." "I have a lot of fond memories of that dog."' I thought you might find this amusing 😄.
2:46
That kid was a teenage Indiana Jones as the opening caption listed these scenes taking place in 1919
I'm new to the channel, but I love that Jen just picked every twist and phrase before it happened. I think that speaks more to Spielberg tapping into the universality of the story than it being a bunch of tired stuff.
"A personal betrayal." So good.
Jen, at the end when the 700 year old Knight is waving bye to them, after they lose the grail in a crevice and destroy the temple, he's like, Fucking Kids
31:49 "Why are you sitting there, _resting,_ when we're so near the _end?"_
"I can't go anywhere, now. I don't have my _hat._ Oh, here it is. Okay. I'm on my way."
I love that pause when the old night says he chose.. poorly. Makes me laugh every time
Loved this. Don't second guess yourself. You nailed it right away with Schneider.
Fun fact: it was the first Indiana Jones movie I ever saw!
It was an experience.
The whip, the scar- good exposition.
BTW, the "she talks in her sleep line" was improvised by Connery. Ford's reaction is real, and it make the whole crew crack up, so they kept it in the film.
A really fun movie that is very re-watchable. Great job Jen, very cool reactions.
Jen: "This one is really funny!"
Me: "This one played the dwarf warrior Gimli son of Gloin in the " Lord of the Rings" trilogy.
Indiana Jones last crusade movie, my favorite Indiana Jones movies. 🤠👍👌
this one is my favorite! HF & SC played so perfectly off each other. and SC held his own as a dashing, ass-kicking archaeologist.
George Lucas had a dog named Indiana, which was both the inspiration for Chewbacca in Star Wars, and name-wise for Indiana Jones.
32:14 is a real place called Petra, but I think it's just one room internally.
His inexperience with the whip was used to explain the scar that adult Indy has on his chin.
One often-overlooked addition to the Indiana Jones franchise is the television show "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles". There were two seasons in 1992 and 1993, and then four TV movies from 1994 to 1996. There were a few episodes with a very young Indy (8-10 years old, IIRC) and the rest focused on teen to young adult Indy (16-21), including his service in WWI. it's not quite as action-packed as the movies, but from my memory (it's been a long time since I watched through it) it was very good (especially the older version...the kid Indy stories were decent at best).
Last Crusade is an absolutely awesome film & recaptures what was missing from Temple of Doom.
Fun Facts: Walter Donovan was played by Julian Glover who also played General Veers in The Empire Strikes Back.
Another TESB cast member who appeared in The Last Crusade was Michael Sheard who had the uncredited role as Adolf Hitler. He also had an uncredited role in Raiders of The Lost Ark as a U-Boat captain.
Sheard is known for Playing Admiral Ozzel in TESB…..but most British people of a certain age will know him as Mr Bronson in the classic TV series Grange Hill.
Interestingly the boat chase wasn’t actually filmed in Venice. It was in fact shot at Tilbury Docks near London. Stowe School in Buckinghamshire was used for the Nazi Rally & the property used for Henry Jones house is located in Mill Hill, London.
Indiana taking his nickname from his pet Alaskan Malamute is a reference to the character being named after Lucas's dog. Lucas’s dog used to ride around in the front seat of his car; & during the writing of Star Wars, Lucas used his furry co-pilot as the inspiration for Chewbacca.
My only complaint (& it’s so minor) about Last Crusade is that the continuity during the train sequence is all over the place. It’s one of those things that once you see it, you’ll never unsee it.
Please check out several Harrison Ford movies:
1985 Witness
1986 The Mosquito Coast
1988 Frantic
No one has reacted to these 3 classics.
Back in the 90s there was a TV show Young Indiana Jones Chronicals, with Sean Patrick Flanery, it was pretty good, Harrison Ford made a cameo in season 2, which was the last season.
So much is quietly explained in the opening scene in the desert, even down to us getting to actually see Indiana's namesake as young Indy went running into the house and the dog watched him dash past. 🙂 Hate of snakes, scar on chin, affection for whips, and the dog. Perfect.
It was nice having the love interest also be a semi-villain, dedicated, much like the group in the beginning, more to recovering treasures for pay than for understanding or appreciating the actual worth of them. And having a semi-villain, in Kazim of the Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword, actually be a hero, though one with a different final goal than the Jones group. And the actor playing Kazim had an appropriate background for playing such a character, as the actor attended Holy Cross Seminary in Istanbul when he was younger. 🙂
Such an excellent movie and the perfect final chapter to the Indiana Jones series, by which I mean don't watch any of the later cash grabs profaning the name.
Looking forward to classic Sean Connery in Dr. No soon!!!!!
Harrison suggested River Phoenix play a younger Indy, as he played his son in The Mosquito Coast, where he often mimic Ford’s mannerisms.
Every time I watch this movie I get depressed when I see River Phoenix as young Indiana Jones. It still seems like yesterday. R.I.P. River.
The reason they put a scene in this where young Indy (River Phoenix) cuts his chin with the whip, is because Harrison Ford in real life has a scar on his chin he got from a car accident when he was a teenager. So it was a way to explain why Indy has a scar on his chin.
The Hunt For Red October is a good Sean Connery movie Jen!
Hunt for Red October is on my channel!
Connery's casting was very impactful for James Bond fans. Also, "Indiana" isn't Ford's character's name. That was the dogs name. His name is also Henry Jones. That's why his dad calls him junior. The 4th one isn't as good, but they have filmed some of the 5th one in my hometown, and it sounds like that's meant to be pretty good. There are some parts of the 4th one that I think you will like.
Great job Jen. Lots of great Sean Connery work out there. You should conider The Untouchables. Kevin Costner as FBI man Elliot Ness, and Sean as the wise old cop who joins Ness' team. Good action and acting. Think you'll like it.
lmao 2 nerds in a tank!! the alt title for this movie!! Love the reaction, this movie is one of my absolutely favorites
It warms my cold dead heart to hear you say "TRILOGY".
Well done Jen, you are a joy to watch. There is only one more movie that I know of, "Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull." It wasn't as good as any of these first 3, but it was enjoyable. I think you should watch it.
Another GREAT reaction! Thank you! And a newbie to Sean Connery, eh? Then you must go back to the beginning, and see the first ever James Bond movie, Dr. No (1962) !
Dr No is in editing now! Coming Sept 6! 👍
Young Indy whips his chin to match Harrison Ford's real chin scar.
This is my favorite Indiana Jones movie. It's the first one that I was old enough to see in theaters.
This brings back great memories. I went to see this film with my best friend Jason. We ate a tasty pizza at my folks house beforehand. We then drove to the theater at my favorite mall. I remember they showed the movie in either THX or Dolby surround sound (Multi- speaker sound ) The movie was amazing ! I was 19. Cheers and thanks.....

You can still have loads of fun privately watching on the side the absolute Gem that is “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles”, staring waaaay too many actors that would become rather famous in their own right.🤩
There were three seasons of sorts beginning with a 9 year old Indy (Corey Carrier) who you will travel around the world with having adventures, then the second season with a college age Indy (Sean Patrick Flannery) who skips school during spring break, ends up in Europe and ultimately gets caught up in shenanigans during WWI!😃
You may have to actually buy them to watch them (there are 3 volumes), but as it was all filmed on location, scored by a full orchestra, and quite educational, it was one of the highest quality produced television shows ever seen during the early 90’s.
Please look into it.😉
