Thanks you're the only persons showing the more interesting and deep editing that can happen with this

I bought my P2K in 2001 and used it quite a bit on a few album releases on my labels, although quite a few of the patches were presets, mainly drums, basses and a few of the synth/pad sounds.
So i've had it for 20 years nearly and haven't done much experimenting with it, mainly due to being busy with other synths and the usual studio stuff.
I'll probably get stuck into it now that i've learnt more about synthesis with the other more useable ones, like the Minilogue i bought last year, much more hands on control.
The Proteus is very much like the Yamaha CS1x i bought in '98, you need to delve into the edit pages to make any alterations to the sounds, which can sometimes take your mind away from the sound you are looking for, a distraction if you will.
I usually end up twiddling for ages, instead of finding the sound i want, whereas on the Minilogue you can find the sounds pretty quickly, due to the instant editing with the controls in front of you, rather than delving into loads of editing pages.
I'm sure i'll start exploring the P2K soon, same with the CS1x, i have a lot more time on my hands these days, what with the lockdown.
    Nice video, take care.

Hi George, thanks for taking the time to comment and share your experiences! When I'm exploring sound, i do tend to wander... and as age increases, so does my desire just to 'be' ... in the exploration of possibilities...
I also would like a more accessible control method for the Proteus! Just recently aquired a Novation SL remote, so I'll be investigating the possibilities with MIDI manipulative assistance - hopefully 😊
      Bezt regards sir!

@@1heUndertaker A patch editor would make things much easier but from what i've seen on the web, the ones that are available are either quite expensive and from what i've read on some of the forums, they can be pretty buggy according to some of the members that have bought them, as though they haven't quite been finished before release.
I suppose it's a lazy way of editing the synths but as you mention, age makes a difference and i feel the need to get on with making music, rather than delving into the edit pages for ages to find the sound i'm looking for, as i mentioned in my previous comment.
I might want to add an LFO or whatever to alter the factory sound and i'm sure it would be much faster if there was a patch editor to use.
I did go through a stage of using the soft synths in Logic, which of course have their editors within them but i found most of them quite brittle sounding, hence why i'm getting back into using the hardware synths.
I'm not that keen on drum machines, i find those quite a bit difficult to get into, maybe that's an age thing as well?
So i'm quite happy to use the sampler and a few of the drum machines in Logic, they aren't that bad and much easier to use than the hardware drum modules.
I've ordered some midi/din plugs off ebay yesterday, so i can make my own patch leads, i have an Akai ME20P midi patch bay that i'll be using to connect all the outboard synths and modules to it and use the Minilogue as the master keyboard, although i'll still be rocording some of the synth patches through the sub groups on the mixing desk as audio files to Logic, as sometimes i feel they can be used in preference to midi in some cases.
Anyway, i've rambled on enough (age again?), so i'll get on now.
      Take care.

@@georgekempson670 Hi George, I have just posted a video about an editor for the Emu Proteus 2000 called Prodatum.
Not sure if you will already know about it?
The video is here - "How I installed Prodatum for my Emu Proteus 2000"

12:16 I can't find that video you talked about. I remember a video where you explained adding noise to an envelop or midi controller (?) but can't find it any where!. Was is that same video perhaps?

Hi, what information do you need?
I may be able to make a video for you to show the technique you are interested in...?

@@1heUndertaker Great technical vids mate, and maybe you have covered it somewhere but is there a way to use a mod envelope to modulate the pitch of a sound with short decay to get a really sharp snappy attack on sounds?

    • @1heUndertaker
      @1heUndertaker  Рік тому

@@a.stockton4817 Could you share some more info of the type of sound you are after?
eg is it for bass / drum / percussion?
or for a piano / plucked string?
You mention modulating the 'pitch' to get a snappy attack?
Are you describing using one of the four layers of a preset to add in an extra bit of 'impact' to the beginning of the sound?
For example, in some of the piano presets, there is a layer assigned for this called piano board I think.
In any event, envelopes are interesting to explore !
If you can explain a bit more about what specifically you wish to achieve, I'll have a go - and post a video attempt 😁

@@1heUndertaker cool thanks, mainly trying to make the piano and pluck sounds hit harder. I dont know if these links will show, they explain it.
