The Castle and The Boneyard at Slaughter Pen in Bentonville, AR

  • First ride in Bentonville, AR from my most recent trip. Spent a week riding in the NWA with Jeremy from the channel Dialed In and Andrew with his channel Andrew Gehn. We did some riding before I started filming but was all stuff I already had out on my channel with a previous
    Slaughter Pen video.
    Our main goal was to go ride the new castle that we've been seeing so much about. On our way to the castle we hit Schroen Train. A blue trail with some flow that ends with some rock sections. The "flow" was really just a pedal fest but the rocky stuff at the end was fun.
    We then arrived at the castle. Rolled up to the super impressive start tower. Over the top for sure but a really cool build.
    There's five trails to choose from off the start tower. We didn't even bother with the easiest trail so showing you the other four. Two jump trails and two tech. Both jump trails have fun jumps and nice berms but be prepared to pedal to clean em. If your no stranger to the Bentonville pedal then you won't be surprised but if you're like me and think a jump trail should work without needed to pedal then just know that's not the case on these or most jump trails in Bentonville for that matter. I went into the trails thinking I would have to pedal a bunch so it actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Pretty tiring still though.
    The two tech trails are pretty different from each other. Dragon Scales is more classic Rock Solid rock armored trail while Loam Wolf is much more raw handcut. I really liked Loam Wolf and it was by far my favorite trail at the castle. Dragon scales was fun but I just can't get past the manufactured tech and would much rather ride the raw and natural Loam Wolf.
    On the way back we hit up the Boneyard. Jeremy had checked out this spot years ago and always wanted to go back and hit the drop on it. I had never seen this zone and was impressed with the big wood berm and drop. It had rained the day before and the drop was pretty muddy and wet. Jeremy sent it anyways as this was a bucket list feature for him. I hit it next and then hit the rest of the features. It's pretty rad to be able to hit gnarlier stuff like this on public trails. I wish we had more big, iconic features in MN.
    Great way to kick off the trip!

    I watched a guy hurt himself bad enough on that Boneyard drop that I thought he might be dead for a few seconds. It’s on my list next time I’m down there too, good to see someone hit it and not catapult their face into the ground! 😂🤙

      Dang that sounds gnarly. It’s a pretty simple drop but I can see how things would go wrong with it’s somewhat sketchy run in and shorter landing

    PSA, when the trail builders block off cut throughs on the climbing trail to the castle that’s a pretty good sign saying stay on the trail.

I’d say Loam wolf was my favorite and then the Boneyard drop was a classic I needed to check off. Look forward to all the videos you have in the pipe of NW Arkansas! Didn’t break I just never liked the Diety bars that much, not enough backsweep for my liking. PNW bars definitely feel better. Also your the first one to notice or at least say something about it. I’ve been wondering if anyone would haha

  • @BenBroker

    So you mentioned that it does have a bit of pedaling there. Short Rides but might be fun with a ebike right? Get in more laps

    • @ridindirt
      @ridindirt  4 місяці тому

      Oh yeah an e bike is great for Bentonville, mostly because there is just so much trail so you’re able to cover way more ground. The pedaling I’m talking about here though is on the jumplines and that you have to pedal a lot in between jumps to have enough speed to clear em and in my opinion you shouldn’t have to pedal on a downhill jumpline. It should just work at trail speed. But that is kind of the deal in Bentonville though, they don’t have much elevation so they really try to get the most out of a downhill and they become a bit pedally. It’s called the “Bentonville pedal” haha.
      But free this video I know Trailblazers went back in and adjusting medieval and made it flow much better (or so I’m told), I haven’t been back down yet. They do great work down there though. I especially like the jumpline Mad Hatter they did.
