      Thank you for your kind words and for checking out this video! I really feel that all forms of written work deserve recognition and I feel that plays are worth examining for the craft of how it is written and executed. Krapp's Last Tape, along with much of Samuel Beckett's backlog, is a fine example.

    Nice video! I love Beckett and I love this play. It's been a long time since I read it, but I remember being impressed by the way Beckett captures a super-raw sense of loneliness and isolation and a vague kind of nostalgia for a long-passed youth or a lost love. Anyway, it's unlike anything else I ever read.

      Also, your connection between Krapp's audio-recordings and the inclination toward making book-tube videos is spot-on!

      Samuel Beckett is a master in postmodernism in how he makes us think about human thought for what it really is and in so many different circumstances and situations. I agree completely that Beckett did an amazing job capturing the emotions of loneliness, isolation, a sense of bitterness about what was and what became, and a sense of acceptance that while he could have done different, he has to accept the situation in which he is in now. Yep, I do a lot of speaking over myself so that the clearest statement makes it into the video. I am just thankful that we having editing software!

    Nice discussion on Beckett! I've enjoyed his writing over the years, especially the short stories and novels. Can only imagine how chilling watching his plays would be like

      Thank you for your kind words! I will have to look into Beckett's short stories and novels, for I am most familiar with his plays and his plays are the area most people know him for when it comes to his writing. You should definitely check out this and Beckett's other plays. Waiting for Godot is his most notable play, but this and his other smaller plays are very thought-provoking as well.

      @@LiteraryGladiators You touch on the points of failure - and in the text and his other works , this notion of juxtaposition between success, failure, light and dark - tying into notions of is existential and absurdist outlooks. You gave me really clarity in what to write for my essay :) Thanks mate, you got a fan from Australia :)

      I am so happy to hear that this video helped you out with your essay! It always means so much when I hear that people that are studying literature and the like are able to find assistance with videos like these. We have discussed Waiting for Godot and Act Without Words II on this channel, but I would like to go over more by Beckett. I am so happy you enjoyed this video! I have made a few friends from Australia through Booktubing, one of which we had the honor to have as a guest for a few discussions on our channel. It is great to have another Australian fan in this community! :D

    I'm here after watching the 2006-tapped Harold Pinter performance. It was enjoyable, especially Pinter's subtle performance. He was 76 at the time of tapping. Unfortunately, the banana scene wasn't included or performed. It's a shame; I would have enjoyed seeing Pinter eat a banana.

      I am happy to hear that watching Harold Pinter's performance in Krapp's Last Tape inspired you to watch this video, though I will say that the banana scene should have been incorporated. I think that EVERY scene in this play is necessary when it comes to demonstrating the message that Beckett is looking to tell. His plays are generally short and nothing should ever be omitted.

    Is the whole play a single scene, how many scenes are there?

    • @LiteraryGladiators
      @LiteraryGladiators  4 роки тому

      This is a short play that is set entirely in Krapp's office, primarily at his desk.
