    Great video! You covered a lot of the things that I was wondering about. I agree with you though, the only reason I haven't bought one of these yet is because of the price. For a space heater, this is incredibly expensive. For a miner, the price is understandable but, it's way less efficient than other miners. I love the concept though! Especially because where I live in northern California, it's cheaper to use electricity to heat our homes than to use natural gas. All because PG&E charges ridiculously high gas prices and some of the local electricity companies have much lower costs. Thank you for sharing!

    I presume that thermostatic control means the cpus drop in performance to reduce heat output? So the mining potential reduces too?

  • @usa-earth
    @usa-earth Рік тому +1

    Stu, I guess I would state that both heat and bitcoin are products with initial purchase price, utility charges and projected lifespan being the costs to produce said products. IF you could put the device where it vents out the wall of your house, is there any way in which it could remove heat from your home during warmer parts of the year, allowing you to use the device year round? What is the lifespan of the device if it is used constantly?

    Heat pump gives better than 10% and costs the same price. It's not affected by market fluctuations and, as someone else pointed out, is not subject to tax on profit. There will be a lot of tears with this kind of tech. Very interesting video though but nothing I am convinced of buying.

    • @StusReviewsUK
      @StusReviewsUK  Рік тому

      I'd love to give a heatpump a go, but that would require costly (and destructive) installation process that isnt accessible to a large part of the population for all sorts of reasons (cost, renting etc). Products like this, could prove still the cheaper option for renters for sure.*
      *if the market turns in favour of course!

  • @PrivateTradingDesk
    @PrivateTradingDesk Рік тому

    excellent video. You are fully correct on the bitcoin explanation.
    I would argue it is mainly heating your home and bitcoin is the byproduct. keep your bitcoin as bitcoin as long as possible for the most upside in price I would think.
    (btw the heatbit is already integrated in a miningpool when you start so no further upside on that front)
    all in all great video

  • @HAL_NOVEMILA
    @HAL_NOVEMILA Рік тому +3

    I'm skeptic about its power consumption claims, if some of the energy is spent on the calculations needed to mine bitcoin, how is it is possible for it to produce the same amount of heat as a simple resistor?
    Also many cryptocurrencies are moving away from the proof of work model meaning that, should Bitcoin switch proof of stake (or similar models), the device would stop mining...

    • @StusReviewsUK
      @StusReviewsUK  Рік тому

      It’s certainly an interesting concept, and it’s one that’s hard to test unless in a controlled lab environment. I guess though, they’re simply converting energy twice, once from electricity into computing power which then moves into heat. Is some of that energy lost along the way? Possibly - but all I can say was that I was blown away with the efficiency, and it heated far better than the oil radiator for half the cost 👍

    • @marcus.H
      @marcus.H Рік тому

      I think they are saying those calculations themselves generate heat

    • @StusReviewsUK
      @StusReviewsUK  Рік тому

      I thought about this, reason I didn't, or wouldn't recommend is because its a bit like a computer... and you wouldnt turn off a computer or console through the plug without shutting it down properly. Might cause long term issues, but i'm not sure!

  • @bytesizeclu
    @bytesizeclu Рік тому +1

    Love that Thumbnail Stu! As a product this is a super interesting concept however this feels like a mighty high price for a heater, sure over time it could technically pay for itself in Crypto but at least this is also a great heater!

  • @scottgardiner7418
    @scottgardiner7418 Рік тому

    Seems like you power costs are 3 x higher than peak rates here in Ontario so the return doesn't really work here. I do use my PC for Folding at Home in the winter to keep my office warm.

  • @beingatliberty
    @beingatliberty Рік тому

    fan space heater in argos £29 ? heatbit payback time is very long. i think the concept is good ie we should use compute power to warm our homes as its a better use of energy, im not sure crypto isn't the wrong thing though. why not part of a render farm or a rentable compute platform? if computers run hot, they don't last as long. also it is better to passively insulate your home than just pump heat into a leaky dwelling..

  • @marcus.H
    @marcus.H Рік тому +2

    My fear is that this could be obsolete before it pays itself off. Plus the tax return implications would be complex to calculate for most users. If gas is 1 third of the price of electric heat and doesn't require new equipment, it seems like you could do better by just using gas heating and spending the extra 20p per unit you saved to just buy some bitcoin on an exchange

    • @StusReviewsUK
      @StusReviewsUK  Рік тому

      True, if gas was available to be installed. I live in the middle of nowhere where there aren’t much options available to me other than oil, electric or installation of a wood burner (which is the cheapest form of heating… again though if you can install it)! This at least is flexible in that it requires no installation/associated costs.
      But yes I agree with you on the obsolescence, although my thoughts were around the lifespan of the tech… but I guess we won’t know until these have been around for a handful of years to see how long they last! Might revisit in a few years!

    • @marcus.H
      @marcus.H Рік тому

      @@StusReviewsUK definitely revisit in a few years. If bitcoin doubles in value but hash power doubles while energy goes down in price it would make a fascinating video. Please include gas calculations too

    I don't want mining of bitcoin to take off big again, GPU prices have barely started to fall in price since the last fad. I have never mined bitcoin before but from what i read it seems to be super unstable (More so then normal stocks & shares) with people becoming both millionaires OR bankrupt overnight depending on the market conditions. The cost of GPU's alone make it a pricey venture to dabble with.
