These faller systems are very good, it’s quite spooky watching these trucks run around without anyone controlling them. Well done on a first attempt at it,worked perfectly ! Andy
andybyrne50 Hi Andy, The guidance system is so simple, but very effective and reliable. I did not know what to expect and had visions of the truck crashing to the floor. It did not though, it followed the wire closely and has never veered away from it. It is clever. Thank you, Rob
Hi Bob, Indeed a long way to go, but I am on the path now and can follow through with improvements to the path and then eventually the scenery around the path. Thank you, Rob
That's a great addition to the layout Rob, I could feel the joy as the truck started its journey, works well for a rough test and I'm sure by next week it will be well sorted out, always great to see some trains running. . . . . Al
Hi Al, I spent three days laying the wire. I took it up and re did it a couple times. Since it is endless, if you want to change something in the middle of the wire, you have to take it all up to that point and start again. It was a joyful moment when it followed the wire and went around the loop. Quite surprising how well it follows the wire. Thank you, I am pleased you liked it. Rob
TFI Farland Friday! The laugh and the joy in your voice at seeing it work is what modelling should be about; pure fun (after the work has been done). I think it looks great and I'm looking forward to seeing it installed on Farland.
4468 When I turned it on I had no idea what to expect. I didn’t know if it would go straight to the edge and fall 4 + feet or what. It didn’t fall, it followed the wire remarkably well and I was ecstatic. Thank you, Rob
Hi Rob, Good to see someone else using the Faller system on a Btitish themed layout. You are rignt about the curve radius, I found that I could get the vehicles round just about half that. But I would not reccommend it if you want reliable running. I found that every now and then something would loose the guide wire and go straight on! The main trouble I find is that all the vehicles are left hand drive while we sit on the right/ Hence my videos on transplanting the Faller machanisms into a British vehicle body. When it comes to cutting groves for the wire I use an Olfa cutter, the type with thw hooked blade. It works well and cuts just about the right width. And it's a lot cheaper than the Faller tool which you will just use for this project and then it will hide in a tool box for eternity! ..............................John
Hi John, before I replied to your comment here, I wanted to watch one of your conversion videos. It would be scary for me to start chopping up faller cars in the hopes of creating a new one that worked. I chose the DHL truck because I use DHL to ship from the UK and thier truck is a frequent visitor to my house. In fact Kelly, their local driver, has visited my railway. I find this particular Faller vehicle to be rather flimsy. The cab tilts and seems fragile. I admire that you can disassemble this tiny machines and put them back together so they work. I presume the cars and smaller vehicles have smaller batteries and motors since those two seem to take up the most room. It is true that when you buy the faller groove tool you use it once and then never again. Unless of course on a future layout you use it again or if I get really ambitious and build a long road to the beach and back or something. Good point about the driver and the steering wheel. The wheel being on the wrong side for the UK and having no driver. Thank you, you have given me much to think about, Rob
You could try one of these from ebay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Faller-163703-Car-System-chassis-kit-Bus-Truck-H0-1-87/392013387811?epid=7005101871&hash=item5b45d19823:g:iZcAAOSwxfdaxHtd Still not cheap but you would only have the receiving vehicle that might suffer a melt down and you have paid only just over half price for the Faller parts. ............John

Hi Tom, They are fun. I do plan a couple stops. My pocket book is reeling form the cost of what I have purchased so far. The groove cutter should arrive in a week or two and I can then refine the road a bit more, mark it and disassemble the base boards and start cutting the groove. I did notice all thir vehicles are German stuff. I liked the DHL truck because much of the things I buy from the UK arrive by DHL. My book clearly said 150 mm. You could interleave the rows the tractor goes in. Thank you for the links I will check them out. Thank you, Rob
That can't be true HO scale...
I agree, the DHL truck is a bit on the large size. Thank you, Rob
