I read this book in the first week of January. … what are the chances that I’ll read something better this year? 😂
This book is unreal
If it wasn't for Lonesome Dove, Trouble With Peace would've been my number 1 book so far this year. Currently halfway through Wisdom
@@PsilocybeJedi It gets better,keep reading ! :D:D:D
How is the leg ?
These are the questions
We need a spoiler filled discussion
I read like 5-10 books a year so it's easier for me to remember than if I were to read 100+ a year like you.
I read the Age of Madness trilogy to help break up the Wheel of Time ‘slog’… best decision I could’ve made. All three were terrific
I finished Best served cold, and immediately after finishing I knew it was my favorite one. I can't imagine how the rest could be better
The Heroes is way better imho ❤
@@noname3609except for one of the books, maaaaaybe two, the keep getting better after that, too.
What the hell? I literally stayed up this morning to finish this book and you come out with this review?! I was just gonna talk about it on the First Law section of the discord too
The one part I find myself skimming through a lot though are the chapters that are so long and they had a bunch of different random POVs
Also the ending is PERFECTION
Great review! I’m pretty new to fantasy and haven’t read any of Joe Abercrombie books. Your review makes me feel I need to move his books higher on my list.
Yeah gunnar broad was a character that was a joy to read, but he was largely superfluous to the story. But it makes the book feel so real to have a character like that as a major part of the story. I loved the dynamic between orso and leo(i think that was his name) one is competant and hated, the other is a buffon and he is loved, it really showed something about how bad people are at choosing leaders.
I feel like Gunnar Broad is kind of the regular-guy perspective. He's not a king or a noble or a military commander. He's a regular dude who gets swept up in the craziness. I still haven't read this book, but I'll be reading it in July. And then my First Law journey will be done. Except for Sharp Ends. I still have to read that too.
What headphones are they?
Judge was terrifying. Her presence on the page was palpable
I keep seeing your comments lol
@@moonbot7613 haha i comment on almost every video I watch 😅 I like the conversation :)
Yup! And the narration for her by Stephen Pacey on the audiobook was PHENOMENAL.
@@valliyarnl lol nice 👍🏻. I think I first saw u in the 2 to Ramble channel comments
@@moonbot7613 haha yeah I really enjoy their videos. Part of their patreon as well :)
I'm halfway through it right now. Honestly at this point I liked Trouble with Peace a bit more but I hear this series ends with a bang
This book made me feel so bad-I loved it!
Yeah, I'll never understand those that don't read this next series but have to read all 16 books in Realm of the Elderlings...even though RofE is 3 different series really, not all related...while all these First Law books ARE related, at least mostly, with alot of same characters and others being relation of the original characters. Similar to FaithFul and the Fallen and Of Blood and Bone...those 2 series can easily be considered 1 large series since they have some of the same characters and relation of others and the storylines are similar, etc.
I don’t always like “and they lived happily ever after”
I really didn’t like the Age of Madness at all. I loved the first trilogy and the three stand alone books are all fantastic as well. This one I didn’t like at all though.

Even considering orso's ending, I think the most heartbreaking thing about it for me was the fact that Jurand ended up settling for the literal human trash can that is Leo dan Brock
You think, can someone start reading first The Age of Madness before the first trilogy?
Yes, but it won't be as impactful.
You could, but you certainly wouldn’t get as much enjoyment out of it and most fans would not recommend it
I'd give it 4 stars. Gunner Broads story was disappointing, the end unresolved and the best parts are with glockta. Still great though.
Suprised this trilogy gets so much love. It’s decent but it pales in comparison to the first law trilogy imo. Orso is a fantastic character. Gunnar broad and the rest of the crew were just so average. I dunno I love the stand-alone books as well. This series just really fell flat for me. Book 2 is great. Book 1 and especially 3 were just very underwhelming personally
I just finished reading this (and the whole series) for the first time.
I have say this was my least favorite of all the 9 books. There were some parts that were amazing, including a knock your socks off twist that was so obvious and yet I still missed it, but so many other parts that just dragged on and on. And lots of questions I had were never answered.
I never cared about the Great Change. I hated Leo. Broad was boring. Judge was too one dimensional. The whole Rikke story line was good but rather bland compared to story lines in the other books. And the ending was stupid and plain awful, although the after ending with Clover was kind of cool. Hildee dan Valant. Love it.
I agree with all your points about the characters as I too hate Leo (or rather love to hate him), think Broad is boring, Judge being one dimensional (which I don't think is a particularly bad thing when it comes to a character here or there), and Rikke being consistently good but not as interesting as everyone else. I do love all the other characters though
But I'm curious what you didn't like about the ending, I personally loved it
@@jamillion10 Lots of reasons. Without spoiling anything for someone else who might see this, I'll try to be vague and not mention too much.
1) Orso. Felt like he went from being an important interesting character in the first 2 books to being treated very poorly by Mr Abercrombie in the 3rd. He didn't get to do anything except quip occasionally and sit in a cage. This made his finale rather weak and disappointing.
2) Leo. His character arc fell so flat that I didn't just hate him, I was bored with every one of his scenes in the 2nd half of the book. He should have had a redemption arc or gone full Glokta, but instead he was just gay.
3) Biaz. If this is really the last book in the series (maybe it isn't, there was plenty left open for the future with the final Rikke and Clover scenes) I felt like we needed a more tangible closure with him. The scene with the eaters was 1/3 of the way there, but still fell far short of what was needed.
4) Savine. She was way too passive in this book. Even with the one interesting thing she did with Orso, she ended up just kind of being there. Her final scene with Judge was a bit too predictable. I guessed exactly what would happen but then I was disappointed when it played out point for point what I had predicted. Mr Abercrombie is capable of much better.
5) Lots of unanswered questions. The main one for me, and I know this will sound silly, but I wanted to know what came of Brint's wife. We know that Stranger Come Knocking was killed in a duel, so he wasn't in the way any more. There were plenty of chances to bring her back in an interesting way. I was hopeful the Stand in the Barrows guy might be related. But nope, nothing.
@@hyrumtanner5584 Your first point was my biggest reason why WoC is one of the weakest First Law books for me.
