Nothing better than drama/thrillers set in medieval times!

Matt!!!! Urgg!!! I wasn't going to read this! I loved loved the first one (based off your recommendation), but heard book 2 wasn't that great and I was content! But now you're telling me this one is awesome haha. Adding to my tbr again haha 🤦‍♂😂

I was really interested in this review because my mother bought me this whole series in hardcover this past Christmas. I really need to get started on it.

One of my all-time favourite books. I love POTE and World Without End so much!

I'd love to hear and see more historical fiction intermixed in your reviews/TBR please 😊
Also you planning on reading next one in series??

Waiting a couple of days before reviewing the book, doesn’t diminish your sharpness and analytical skills. Great video!

My favourite part is when they are in Normandy and the Battle of Crecy.
Agincourt is another battle, almost 70 years latter
I like a lot this book, but father this one, the formula repeats to much and the flavour is lost

A very astute review of Follett’s writing!

Love this book, finished it around a month ago. Better paced ending than POTE but I liked the characters more in that book.
Also this book almost feels like a fantasy book with no fantastical elements if that makes sense. So reviews like this are kinda fun

Finished this book yesterday. The ending had me GUSHING. Such a beautiful story. I think it’s on par with book 1 for me.
The battle was the battle of Crecy, Azincourt happens a generation later. The English archers bossed both battles which causes the confusion sometimes.
Hoping to start Book 3 at the end of this month. Can’t wait!
If you want more books set during the Hundred Year War then I’d recommend Essex Dogs by Dan Jones.

Such a great review. I find a lot of authors use that wave pattern, and the formulaic feeling really reduces my enjoyment. But I'd never heard anybody name this phenomenon before.

I’ve read the first books twice and also listened to the whole series. Loved it. Ik recognise that wave pattern for sure. It’s also understandable as these books do not have many plots interwoven with each other, so writing such a long book or books will get such a pattern, certainly if it’s drama. I liked it. It is like reading a lot of small stories in a big one.
Century trilogy was also great to read. I read that series twice and want to read it again third time if my bookshelf didn’t have so many unread books 😊

Have you read The Accursed Kings by Maurice Druon?

Back in the day, POTE was the first book I had paid money for that I had to DNF. I was bored to tears after Part One and it felt like a chore reading it. So disappointing since I enjoy historical fiction. For a second chance, I even tried the show and couldn't get through it. Kudos to you all who enjoy the series, though!

I've read both Pillars of the Earth and World Without End and loved them. I'm currently reading book 3 A Column of Fire and I'm enjoying it. After awhile i hope you consider giving book 3 a try, I'd love to hear your input. Also, i eventually plan on reading Follett's Century trilogy which follows 5 fives through WWI, the Russian Revolution and Women's rights to vote.

Pillars of the Earth is one of my favorite books of all time. I enjoyed World Wirhout End too. Where the books jumped the rail (shark?) for me was A Column of Fire. I read 300 pages and was pretty miserable. Haven’t tried the other two and probably won’t.

My mind randomly goes down specific paths. So random question, do you listen to the audiobook on headphones while driving? Because you said you listened to it driving back from Disney land, so I assume your kids are in the car, and based on how the first book was, you probably wouldn’t be listening to it on the car speakers with your kids in the car. Just randomly curious lol
