I enjoyed the review. Bob said Jimmy Lile was the first he saw using D2, but he didn’t get it hard enough. She said that also. ;) I free hand sharpen the knives on a belt grinder initially. The angle can vary between 15-20 degrees. I like your 17 degree angle. Bob Loveless wasn’t wrong when he said “D2 takes a lousy edge and holds it forever”.

You might consider getting different steals of the same knife like a bark River Aurora in a two, 3V, crew wear and M4 and running your test again.
Heat treatments is the magic the steel is just cookie dough. The heat treating can either cook the dough to perfection, burn it or leave you with raw dough

Hey Pete, I've always heard that Dozier is one of the best for D2, but I know that Nathan of Carothers Performance Knives supposedly does some of, if not the best, heat treat of D2 in the industry thanks to his special heat treat. Those knives are pretty rare now but it might be worth keeping an eye out for.

It is by far the best D2 his knife design is perfect too... it's not too much blade not to thick and cuts really well with a fine edge.

Nathan has since perfected 3v with his delta heat treatment. I know your comment is 2 years old, but check out the K18 bend test he recorded. It is utterly insane for 3v

One of my first high end knife purchases was the Benchmade Hunt, The Bone Collector Axis folder in D2. Great knife, really went for it for the blade shape and size, turned out to take a great edge, plus easy to sharpen.

20ish years ago D2 was considered a super steel. Known for extremely high edge retention. If it’s heat treated properly to 61 it still is very good for that.

I had just about that same dozier years ago (with a nice, custom molded, belt-clip kydex sheath) - maybe mine was a hair's breadth smaller. I also had some beautiful, simple, spearpoint folders with micarta scales featuring a beautiful, simple, oval-in-the-center pattern. The fixed blade was small, and hollow ground, with a factory edge. I fractured it badly trying to baton through a large piece of knotty hard-wood firewood (I was going through an edge or thinner section of it). I was new to knives then, and, granted, it was a total abuse of a small, hollow-ground blade. Regardless, it left a bad taste in my mouth, to this day, about D2 - I'm always worried it will be brittle (it wasn't an edge issue, but a large half-moon fracture form hitting a twist and/or knot). Dozier offered to re-grind it for me - which seemed fair, but not replace it.

    Fantastic! Wow 425 cuts D2!
That goes to show what happens when you treat and sharpen a steel to it's potential 🤙super awesome Pete 🤩
I have a question for you though, what grit stone (diamond plate?) did you use to finish at before stropping?
Someone also D2 if treated to near 62HRC will support a steep edge angle 12-15⁰/24-30⁰ apex? Maybe squeeze another 200 cuts out of it which would put D2 in range of lower end super steels. It makes sense when you look at the metallurgy data showing D2 hybrid components and ratios of elements.
Great video thank you for taking the time to eek out D2 potential 😎aloha T

O1 and D2 I've been doing since 93. Give you D2 at RC 60-61 without cryo with good toughness. Do the same with O1 and I only get O1 with the 0.2% vanadium for grain restriction. Dozier knows his heat treat.

I recently bought a D2 steel 4 mm thick knife blank on Ebay. It is supposed to be hardened to 58-60 HRC. But I have easily cut a 1/4 x 6 inch section from the handle portion of the blank with a cutoff wheel. And filed that smooth using a Husky file set purchased from Home Depot. This is my first knife build. So it didn't occur to me right away. That something might be wrong here. But it seems to me that I shouldn't be able to do this at all. If this were tempered D2 steel. Can anyone with knowledge of D2 tool steel help me out with this?

You’re missing the point, my friend. Epstein was the key to unlocking/unveiling the gigantic child sex ring that our elites participate in. He was killed by the elites (a specific group of them, if you know what I mean) as damage control, not for justice. I wouldn’t have minded seeing him turned into a wind chime, but only after we had a long and public trial to expose the 2,000+ (for sure) elites involved in his kiddie diddling events, as well as revealing his numerous intelligence ties to the Mossad. Literally everyone would have benefited from the information spilled at a public trial, but that would have put this story in the limelight for an uncomfortable amount of time for the elites. Wonder why the story was memory-holed so quickly, how the media took very careful steps around the story, then dropped it ASAP? Justice will never be served to those other slimeballs involved...
