I enjoyed the review. Bob said Jimmy Lile was the first he saw using D2, but he didn’t get it hard enough. She said that also. ;) I free hand sharpen the knives on a belt grinder initially. The angle can vary between 15-20 degrees. I like your 17 degree angle. Bob Loveless wasn’t wrong when he said “D2 takes a lousy edge and holds it forever”.
An Epstein joke right off the bat. I wouldn't expect anything less than that from you Pete.
You might consider getting different steals of the same knife like a bark River Aurora in a two, 3V, crew wear and M4 and running your test again.
Heat treatments is the magic the steel is just cookie dough. The heat treating can either cook the dough to perfection, burn it or leave you with raw dough
Hey Pete, I've always heard that Dozier is one of the best for D2, but I know that Nathan of Carothers Performance Knives supposedly does some of, if not the best, heat treat of D2 in the industry thanks to his special heat treat. Those knives are pretty rare now but it might be worth keeping an eye out for.
It is by far the best D2 his knife design is perfect too... it's not too much blade not to thick and cuts really well with a fine edge.
Nathan has since perfected 3v with his delta heat treatment. I know your comment is 2 years old, but check out the K18 bend test he recorded. It is utterly insane for 3v
I lost my first dozier a year after buying it from Dozier at a knife show. I was hunting in the mountains during a bad storm. I still miss that little knife.
Hat's off to you Pete, This is the best Epstein that I've seen yet !!!! ...and in a Basil shirt to boot !!!
Cool little knife. It’s amazing what properly heat treated knives are capable of. Thanks as always Pete
Thanks Pete. Loved the Mathematical equation. Shaun Artwood on YT came up with the same result and has multiple vids on it.
Love the show. ATB
One of my first high end knife purchases was the Benchmade Hunt, The Bone Collector Axis folder in D2. Great knife, really went for it for the blade shape and size, turned out to take a great edge, plus easy to sharpen.
"Jeffrey Epstein didn't kill himself" 🤣🤣🤣
That Intro was hilarious. Great results there; for my everyday use D2 remains one of my top favorites, never had any real issues with it through all kinds of tasks.
omfg just discovered this gem! might seem old but the epstein meme is a classsic.
And with that intro you've kept my patreon support indefinitely, even if all you post are videos of box cutters. Great stuff mate
Verry nice document with the graphs and stuff
I need one of those...
400+ cuts is amazing for D2!
Thanks Pete. 🤓👍
Holy shit how did I not see that intro gag coming. Well played!
I know I'm old and losing my hearing, but when you had the background music, it was tough for me to hear you. Without the background music, I had no difficulty.
Rewatching a year later and that's still the best intro to any knife video out there 😂
This is what I was wanting to see with the d2 testing. Same knife polished, and toothy done by the same person. I figured this one was just going to be a quick test on the Dozier.
20ish years ago D2 was considered a super steel. Known for extremely high edge retention. If it’s heat treated properly to 61 it still is very good for that.
Really enjoy your reviews, twisted humor and all. Thanks
I had just about that same dozier years ago (with a nice, custom molded, belt-clip kydex sheath) - maybe mine was a hair's breadth smaller. I also had some beautiful, simple, spearpoint folders with micarta scales featuring a beautiful, simple, oval-in-the-center pattern. The fixed blade was small, and hollow ground, with a factory edge. I fractured it badly trying to baton through a large piece of knotty hard-wood firewood (I was going through an edge or thinner section of it). I was new to knives then, and, granted, it was a total abuse of a small, hollow-ground blade. Regardless, it left a bad taste in my mouth, to this day, about D2 - I'm always worried it will be brittle (it wasn't an edge issue, but a large half-moon fracture form hitting a twist and/or knot). Dozier offered to re-grind it for me - which seemed fair, but not replace it.
Fantastic! Wow 425 cuts D2!
That goes to show what happens when you treat and sharpen a steel to it's potential 🤙super awesome Pete 🤩
I have a question for you though, what grit stone (diamond plate?) did you use to finish at before stropping?
Someone also D2 if treated to near 62HRC will support a steep edge angle 12-15⁰/24-30⁰ apex? Maybe squeeze another 200 cuts out of it which would put D2 in range of lower end super steels. It makes sense when you look at the metallurgy data showing D2 hybrid components and ratios of elements.
Great video thank you for taking the time to eek out D2 potential 😎aloha T
They don't call him Dr. D2 for no reason!
Ya got that right mate. The heat is back on Prince Andrew
Ahh very cool. I've owned a D2 Dozier drop point hunter for like 15 years!
O1 and D2 I've been doing since 93. Give you D2 at RC 60-61 without cryo with good toughness. Do the same with O1 and I only get O1 with the 0.2% vanadium for grain restriction. Dozier knows his heat treat.
Ok so jokes aside, are you in fact looking for a formula?
that beginning joke hit me like a punch in the face, fucking loved it
Idk why I like the music so much on this one.
close to 500 thats absolutely insane comparable with some supersteels
and the chemistry is the most special of all the knife steels so its just the most perfect steel by far
Epic intro, mate.
Good info! Im guessing Kabar doesnt use Doziers ht in their dozier d2 knives lol
Its always a bummer when you buy a knife from a higher end small scale premium brand and the edge is just 💩.
Good job!
a solid result that shows properly heat treated American D2 is good stuff..
That music at 2:30 creeped me the hell out.
That opening has me in fucking tears mate
Love to see your thoughts on the Ka-Bar Doizer $18 folder. I love it for a beater knife. Quite an edge for peanuts
Like your music this go....fits lore and order...
excellent job ,take care of that arm -your the best
Good on ya mate. (GEDKH)
best.........intro...........ever.
Intro had me believing it 😂
Dat intro 🤯🤯
Love the intro
Hey have you ever seen those sharpness testers that use monofilament? Maybe that would be a more accurate way than slicing the paper. I'll buy you one if you want I'm a huge fan of your Channel
I gotta give you that 1 that 1 was brilliant
Collapse of the wave function!
So when sharpening with the kme do you purposely make your sharpening strokes from heel to tip on both sides?
Not sure if it's true, but I've heard that d2 requires pretty exacting standards for a high quality h.t., even relative to other steels.
What is the name of the sharpener you are using in this video.
Aw man... the Epstein joke completely caught me off guard.
How often do you clean your sharpening stones, used in this video?
So how much money do you need on Patreon before you get a SISAL SLAYER 7000 robot to save your arm from falling apart?
Is this Dozeir in d2 steel the same as used by Ka bar for Dozier d2?
no this is from his own shop/small batch
Is the pistol grip looking thing on that sharpener backwards or is that just me.
Bob Dozier is the master of D2.
I recently bought a D2 steel 4 mm thick knife blank on Ebay. It is supposed to be hardened to 58-60 HRC. But I have easily cut a 1/4 x 6 inch section from the handle portion of the blank with a cutoff wheel. And filed that smooth using a Husky file set purchased from Home Depot. This is my first knife build. So it didn't occur to me right away. That something might be wrong here. But it seems to me that I shouldn't be able to do this at all. If this were tempered D2 steel. Can anyone with knowledge of D2 tool steel help me out with this?
Fucking brilliant intro
Maybe Medford IS on to something.
Would you please tell me the name of the sharpening set up you are using. Thanks
woptucci It’s a KME sharpening system
@@tyyreaun Thank you, As soon as this video ended your KME video popped up so all is good to those who wait,
Isn’t 17 degrees steeper than 20?
Pete, I love you.
Because life is far too frightening to absorb.. beloved distraction.
Who makes your sharpener ?
I miss old jeff
You the MAYRN Pete.
Is it the math? No. It's probably the titties.
I like pie.
Indeed he did naught ;)
ive said it many times before that there is a proper way to heat treat D2 and it does well. China D2 cannot compare in the least even at 62hrc. The protocol they use has been posted on bladeforums a few times by Carrothers Performance knives. and he even talks about the science of said protocol with the composition of D2.
I like pi
Dear Mr Epstein, would you please make a vid on how you use your formula?????
So who did the background music?
the tantal night theme from xenoblade chronicles 2
@@CedricAda you have good taste!
The bake makes the cake! I’m still not a fan of D2.
Jeffrey Epstein did they yell “wake up Jeff” he might have been sleeping in the big red car
Poor for infi steel bussee 50 cut with expensive knife
You used math for evil
For whoever did kill him, here's a 👍
Prince Andrew by chance?
I disagree. He needed to be killed, but only after spilling his guts on all he knew. Someone equally evil or maybe even more so killed him.
You’re missing the point, my friend. Epstein was the key to unlocking/unveiling the gigantic child sex ring that our elites participate in. He was killed by the elites (a specific group of them, if you know what I mean) as damage control, not for justice. I wouldn’t have minded seeing him turned into a wind chime, but only after we had a long and public trial to expose the 2,000+ (for sure) elites involved in his kiddie diddling events, as well as revealing his numerous intelligence ties to the Mossad. Literally everyone would have benefited from the information spilled at a public trial, but that would have put this story in the limelight for an uncomfortable amount of time for the elites. Wonder why the story was memory-holed so quickly, how the media took very careful steps around the story, then dropped it ASAP? Justice will never be served to those other slimeballs involved...
Love the beginning..... #MAGA
我認為 Real Steel 的D2才是D2 鋼之王。
Your real steel d2 in China does not compare to this. Your heat treatment is not correct.
Your arm feels like shit, I just had surgery on mine, damn, sore as a dirty mama jama. 6 holes in me shoulder, a screw to hold tendon, cut another tendon away, ( doctor said did not really need that one anyway), etc....SO buck up and get back to cutting....please.
