I'm rewriting a listing's title and tags using better logic than I did to begin with! Etsy SEO wants more context so that Etsy can figure out what your listing is and who to show it to, so let's give it to them.

I've been watching Etsy videos for years and this is the first video I've seen of someone ACTUALLY doing their tags and titles. People talk all day long about what to do and what not to do, but actually SEEING how it is done is so helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
My hobby is mixed media, I am a mould hoarder, you can also use a tag for mixed media mold, or art mould, what I look for when trying to find unique molds but fondant mold is the best way, I have ever found what I am looking for. Molds are funny we often have the conversation about this in art groups, mold mould, potatoe, tomatoe. Love this explanation and you are so calm explaining it as my head explodes while I am doing my listings. Thank you. Glad I joined your e-success shop and your facebook groups.
Thanks, I know that resin works but then people will ask me if UV resin works, or epoxy resin, or whatever other specific kind and I'm never sure!
@@KaraBuntin so many mixed media to put in a mold, the only thing from what I learned the hard way, is mold composition can not go in a mold, was trying one day to cast off a mold casting. Best way to learn is error and trial.. I am sure the customer does not want to hear that though. I will test one of mine and let you know about the epoxy resin and uv resin.
Thank you Kara! I love when you do these types of videos. I love hearing your thought process and watching you do it at the same time. That is where I learn the most!
I think it helps to have it explained as I’m doing it.
This is the best seo tutorial I’ve seen. You are explaining the process and not trying to sell expensive tools or promise unrealistic income. This has inspired me to keep going on starting my Etsy shop. I’m still researching and finding my niche
Glad it was helpful!
"oh I got a sale" 😂 love it - you've totally changed the way I approach SEO. It's incredible how a small thing like making the most of your tag space without worrying whether they are ALL exact keyword phrases makes such a difference.
It does, it helps you not go crazy!
Incredibly simple, every time I see a video of Kara I am convinced that we are the ones who do the difficult SEO, it is pure logic and to think as a client would do when looking for an article, specific and descriptive words of my product. I got it!!!
excellent!
Kara you’re a saint! This is absolutely incredible and so powerful and IT WORKS!!!! I just applied your tag and title method to some dead listings and sold one within 24hours!!!! You’re amazing! God bless you!
Excellent!
Thank you for doing this Kara! I found your video very helpful as I'm very much a visual person.
Glad it was helpful!
Oh! Just found you! LOVE your videos. You've been a tremendous help to me. Thank you!!! Rococo (pronounced rA-co-co) is part of the late baroque period and is a good keyword for any flamboyant intricate (ornate) gilded design like your cake mold piece!
Thank you, Kara...You always share valuable information!
You're welcome!
Thank you so much for this. I hadn't thought about descriptive words beyond just what it is or what it's used for. This was really helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
You just proved my point. You don’t know to whom ETSY is showing your listing. Certain business owners automatically get promoted first. At any given time there are so many ad’s that ETSY ads are a desert as well. I have a following for in person sales so I know my product sells. They just buy in person or off Facebook.
The business owners don’t necessarily get promoted first, but listings that sell do.
@@KaraBuntin read your ETSY archived emails from the last year.. I will have to just agree to disagree. No further communication necessary.
Thank you for this - such helpful touchpoints to refer back to when I'm working on listings. One of the most interesting things is that the tags don't have to make sense, you just need a bunch of keywords that get an item to show up in a massive variety of searches - really good focus point for thinking up keywords.
My tags are a hot mess and they don't make sense most of the time.
@@KaraBuntin A hot mess that works - superb!
FYI: I make sculpted polymer clay jars and I have bins and bins of molds, and as soon as I saw this mold and before I saw what you used, the keywords I would search for as a customer include scrollwork, ornate, flourish, decorative. You saw a prima mold when browsing - they make lots of molds in this style, they may have more keyword ideas to nab- im seeing scrolls, medallion, crest, etc. :)
Thanks! I have some more in this style that I made around the same time so I'll take a look at those, too.
Thank you so much for sharing. This helped me so much. I watch a lot of UA-cam videos and still have no clue what I’m doing lol but this video was so detailed and helpful thank you 😊 . Love your videos
You are so welcome!
Filigree might be a good description, or flourish. Thinking people may not search vintage, but not sure if that matters?
If you are using amazing mold putty you can use them for epoxy resin. I used to use that brand for my handmade resin molds.
Oh thanks! I use that and the mold putty 15
Thank you. So informative and practic, always a lot to learn from you every day!
Thanks for watching!
Kara, Thank you for your videos, I am finding them helpful to building my Etsy sales. Just wanted to say that I use quite a lot of silicone molds with fused glass, especially flowers and leaves. It might be something that you can use.
Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you so much for this helpful video!!
So to clarify, it doesnt matter what order the tags are in for relevancy? Should i put the most important tags at the top of the tag list, or any order is fine as long as they're in there?
TIA!
The order of the tags only matters if you're trying to split a long tail keyword between two tags, then you have to write them in sequence. Other than that it doesn't matter whether the tags are at the front or the end of the tags.
Thank you so much!!
Thank you for this video! I am going to be going in and redoing my titles and tags using your tips. 😊
Have fun and don't stress out.
Thank You for sharing this with us💐
My pleasure
Thank you, these videos are so helpful.
Your welcome!
Thank you for this. Q: can you put one exact match over 2 consquetive tags i.e [wooden utensils] [for kids, .........] if you overlap over 2 tags does it still count as an exact match? I'd love to know the answer, I've looked everywhere!! Thank you 😀
Yes
Kara, I went back and looked at this video a second time as I’m rethinking my slow listings. You left your stock number at the end of the title. Do you have any reason for this? I was told by an Etsy guru to not have a stock number in the title. The only reason I can think of is it uses up characters when it could be used for something else. I know it’s much easier to search on Square if I add my stock numbers. Your thoughts?
Having a stick number is for my convenience, and it doesn’t hurt you in search.
Rococo😎 Perfect pronunciation ! 😃
But i said it both ways to cover myself!
Thanks for an informative video!😊 In regards to categories, using vintage before the word, I.e. vintage necklace, does Etsy consider it necessary?
No, but it’s good to use it for the customer.
Just watched, by chance have you sold this mold since the video?
No, my mold customers really only buy specific things when they need it for a specific project. I tend to sell things like this rarely, and more often on my website than on Etsy.
Do etsy match different key words in one keyword tag?
They hop around and match words from anywhere in the title and tags, also categries and attributes.
Great advice! I have a question, I have a listing that just been 10 days (I got 3 views and 1 favorite so far), but I'm thinking about tweaking the title & tags, because when I try to use etsy ads, I dont get that many ad views, less than 50 a day and no clicks ($5 budget). .... Do you think it's a good idea to tweak the tags and title? Or I should leave it and see what happen first since its just been 10 days?
I would say that if you've been advertising it for 10 days and it hasn't given you that many views, to look at the keyword data that you've gathered so far and decide whether you need to change anything. Don't just go in and change things without looking at the data first!
@@KaraBuntin Thank you Kara! So that means I have to change/optimize keywords that doesn't bring me any views and keep tags and title that relevant, am I right?
@@adaninurs That's right. Don't change the things that are working!
I'm working hard at making my title more interesting and readable for customers, like short phrases/sentence form. This seems to be messing up marmalade, I don't know. Marmalade says my focus keyword engagement is low, even though I used great focus keywords, then added words (just as you said to do). Does this matter?
If the keywords that you're putting in both title and tags have low engagement, it will tell you that your focus keywords have low engagement. You then have to decide whether it's something that you want to worry about. Sometimes it will matter and sometimes it won't, but you have to use your own discretion.
Sometimes you can not find the proper simple words for your items to describe 🙂 Here if i was looking for this kind of mold i would type "embellishment mold for cakes" or "swirls mold for cake decoration". Remember as you said , i would search for " ribbon on a stick " ?😁
swirls is a good "ribbon on a stick" keyword!
I use some of those type of molds to put pretty designs on my sugar cookies.
Interesting!
Thank you Kara for such an informative video! Here's my question: for my title, instead of "pregnancy and baby journal and album", I put "pregnancy/baby journal and album", which is better? Or is it better to put "pregnancy journal", "baby album"? Thank you !!!
I don’t know which one is better as far as word order goes, but you shouldn’t put the slash in there with no space in between the words, or the search engine can read it incorrectly.
Thank you so much for all your videos, I ma giong through alal of them one by one.. I have a maybe stupid questions; bu I can´t find the tags another seller put with hos/her item when I open it. Where are their tags listed?
They put them at the bottom of the listing now, but they’ve also been adding other things in that section, so they might not all be tags from the seller
@@KaraBuntin I saw this, they didnt seem tags to me, so it seems that they mixing here the tags of the client with other short keywords/categories. Thank you so much.. ✨💫🌟🌸🎀💖
Thank you for the info!
Any time!
I heard another Etsy trainer say that the category names are really important. I have a niche shop, and everything is knitting-related. So according to the advice of that other trainer, my categories should be
Knitting mugs
Knitting notecards
Knitting home decor
Knitting patterns
Knitting graph paper, etc.
Is it important to have the word “knitting” in the categories? Because your advice seems to indicate that Etsy searches on a listing-by-listing basis.
Thank you!
The categories should always be accurate because Etsy uses them for keywords. So if something is miscategorized it doesn't help it to be fund accurately. As long as you're accurate, you're fine.
@@KaraBuntin Are you speaking of the "categories" that we choose from Etsy when setting up our listing or the "categories" we name for our store sections? Thanks for all your wonderful info!
I see you have periods in your title. Does it matter if it’s commas or periods after your keywords?
It doesn't matter at all.
I apologize if I just haven't found this yet, but are you still offering classes? Thank you...

Can two tags that do not make a true keyword be placed in the same tag? An example would be soccer(space)T ball? Will they be seen as a phrase or independent words? Thank you for answering questions on your videos. It helps a lot.
Edited for spelling.
Etsy will find both as independent words, and yes, they can be put on the same tag.
@@KaraBuntin Thank you so much!
I use silicone molds to make solder castings to use on my stained glass pieces so using the word silicone if that's what it's made of would help me find it.
Is there any temperature range for that? I don't know anything about solder casting
@@KaraBuntin I don't know. I know I've seen people on UA-cam casting metal in them. That's what gave me the idea to try it. You can also use silicone stamps to stamp designs in solder
Thank you for this video!! If I'm tagging something for a baby...should I add another tag saying "infant"? Thank you!!
Absolutely!
@@KaraBuntin Thank you, again! I truly appreciate your videos!!
Dear Kara, thank you for this vid! After watching it, some questions burned my mind. I'm not arguing nor putting your words in doubt, just questions to try to understand the basics.
1. Your title is pretty long despite Etsy advising 'short titles' - any reasons?
2. You repeat the most important keywords from title into tags - any reasons?
Note: I noticed you don't repeat in tags the same words which I think it's the wise way. While you do your brainstorming, you put yourself in customer shoes instead of using weird website such as erank, another good point.
By the way, you could add 'Art Nouveau' as style ;)
Etsy sees the entire title regardless of what they say they do. If you leave a short title it just takes away more keyword opportunities. A lot of people who say to do short titles are looking at Google SEO, because Google truncates the title to around 60 characters in organic search results. But even there, it's not a make-or-break thing, because Google still sees the entire title, they just don't display the whole thing. Google SEO and Etsy SEO are different systems, and not using the title space on Etsy is cheating yourself. Repeating the most important keywords in both places tells Etsy that those are keywords that are more relevant for your listing.
@@KaraBuntin Have you ever tried this type of tags such as 'mom mum mother' or 'daughter sister', 'gift present', etc. ? Thank you!
@@burningsnowball430 You can use those, but I wouldn't do too much of it unless you have space.
I love your tutorials but my problem is, where are you going to find what you're showing on the screen. Like another video of yours where you were using analytical? To find long tail keywords you came up with a whole list and I don't know where you were at. I do know that you're used to just going to these places but can you state how to find those things like the URL?
That was the search analytics beta, it's in the marketing tab on your shop dashboard.
Thank you, Kara! Valuable info, as always) I have a question - I used to be a member of one group, the guru taught us that the fewer tags you have in your shop - the better. And she told us to get rid of tags that are used once or twice in the whole shop. She affirmed that those 1-time tags are no use and the item is not going to be on the first pages in search if the exact tag is not used in many items. So every time I add a new product I hear that "guru" in my head and stress about it - did I use the same tags as before?) Can you please tell me if this makes sense?
Two words! Horrible advice! I will let Kara answer this question!
There’s so much crap in that advice i don’t even know where to start, so I’ll do another video about it. Oh my God.
thanks mam😍😍😍😍
you're welcome!
When you are listing a piece of jewelry, unless it is a specific birthstone (month) you are really just punting on who or what it is for....birthday for mom, 30th birthday gift, mother's day etc. Essentially you are just fabricating why someone is buying it so is that a good way to fill the real estate? Because there are only so many adjectives to describe a necklace, for ex.
Some keywords are "punt" keywords, that's a good way to describe them. You can put them on there then wait to see if you're found for any of them, and change them out for other ones if you're not found for them after a month or so. What I would do is try to get a little more specific and think about who would wear the style of jewelry you're talking about, then find keywords around those people.
