Sight unit infantry trilux,we had the great SLR in the New Zealand Army in the 80s,heard about the sights but was never issued one lol first time we got optics was with the Steyr AUG
After a lot of experimentation & load development, I've dialled in my 1963 BSA L1A1 to shoot 10 round groups measuring on average 18" high & 10" wide at 600M (660yds). This is using a 3-9x40 scope & 20-30 seconds between shots. Definitely not the most accurate rifle around but that 18"x10" is 'minute of man' which is what it's all about. In comparison, my .270 Schultz & Larsen with the same scope will put 10 shots into a 6" circle at the same distance.
Loved the rifle hated the sight, I was accurate out to 600mtrs on open sights but pretty deadly up to 300mtrs used in anger N.I and Falklands. I still prefair the 7.62 51 NATO any day over 5.56, you didnt get many enemy combatants coming at you after being hit by 7.62 FMJ! like the site many good reviews thanks!
I acquired a Trilux scope in the early 90s, put it on my L1A1 and the results were dismal. Mine did not have the Tritium unit due to import restictions but that wasn't the issue. My primary complaint was that I wore glasses and getting proper eye relief was a challenge/impossible and because the scope did not have focal adjustment meant everything through the scope was fuzzy without my glasses rendering the scope worthless. This was brought up by Bloke On The Range. It looked good on the rifle but I was much better off with the iron sights.
the idea behind the upside down post, was so you could shoot at prone targets (less obscured by the post section). used them 78-84. quite a good scope at the time imho.Trijicon use a "hollow" post to work around this, in their current models. used them 78-84. quite a good scope imho
My era. Joined 88 still had the SLR then converted to the SA80. The SLR was lethal with a SUIT sight. Apart from the original teething problems with the new rifle it was very accurate from the beginning with the SUSAT sight. Similar sight picture but the post comes from bottom not top. I don’t think there was the problem you found with the SUIT when I used one. Could it be the ammo?
Hi, I was a marksman on the SLR in the fifties, sixties and seventies. Served in four armies, but the best shooting I ever observed on the range was in Rotorua, New Zealand when I was attached to the 6 RNZIR. At that time we were training for fighting in the bush or jungle and after zeroing in at 200m we fired off ten rounds in the standing position at 300, 400, 500 and 600m. At the furthest range I still had two soldiers hitting the target eight out of ten shots! It turned out that they were deer cullers who worked for the Government keeping the feral deer in controllable numbers. These were Territorial Soldiers using crappy SLR’s with iron sights. Later I have watched deer cullers shooting at deer from helicopters using SLR’s when they were in business shooting and recovering red deer for the export venison market. Don’t blame the rifle, adjust your technique and survive. Cheers mate. Harera
Only a brit would call anything involved with warfare ungentlemanly. I have found the reputation of being a savage useful from time to time. I'll hang onto it for now.
If you want to know who made the SUIT pick up a pair of 7x42 Avimo focus free binoculars. They were trialed in the late 70s and adopted by the Falklands war. You don't tend to see them in most G10 kits as ancient mid century binos with stadia lines abound and still work. They were/are however issued to RECCE platoons and the likes of forward observers. They look just like a pair of SUITs side by side. Same finish, same style eye cups. 33:19
I beg of you to put out a video on the later SUSAT scope! I’ve been trying to find as much information on those as possible. I own one with the standard mount and one with the commercial mount. And no I don’t have an SA80. But they do go on my Spanish CETME LV/S.
At 600 meters, run 100 to firing point, adopt position, watch and shoot 6 Falling plates from 500 meters, half inch armour plate 12 x 12 inches, no problems for this Gat, I loved mine..just peep and foresight,,,very very accurate in the right hands
If you mount an aftermarket rail system and an RMR redot the SLR sights are tall enough to coexis with your iron sights. A very nice dependable combination. Try it let us know what you think!!
The SLR is prone to failure to feed because of magazine manipulation. Thats why you dont hold the magazine or redt it on objects whilst shooting! I could aldo see you were going to have a failure to extract as it was short stoking. I found stting 3 to be the most reliable! As always, your weapon handling is brilliant! No silly racking the action more than once to clear it, and safety aplied when not on target👍

I just watched Blokes video about this optic/setup. Got a feeling this won't do as well as your Scar 16 did!
Edit: Also holy crap I'm first on a 9 hole video. Love your content bros, also I like your slate black rail panels but I wish you had more colors like OD green and a lighter tone of FDE =)
EDIT2: Wow this did way better than I expected it to. Henry really is talented. Great shooting.
i take it you have seen blokes video that just dropped ????
Best rifle ever made.
Great shooting as usual.. I just don’t understand why this channel is not even at 500k subscribers???
Be class if you could do the SA80 range and see the improvements as they go on. I'm not sure it's possible to get the sa80 in private hands tho
A2 if possible. A1 we don't talk about, ever.
As far as I know, there are no civilian SA80s in the US. Someone out there may have a post sample/real one in a very high-end collection.
@@crocholiday409 we would need to ask gun jesus he did a review a while back
@@crocholiday409 I think the only ones that made it to the states or civilian hands are A1, which isn't really worth evaluating except as a showcase for how far the rifle came
There was a production run of semi-auto L85's, there are a few in Canada, so few though that it isn't actually on the ban list@@crocholiday409
I had one of the Israeli AR SUIT Scope Mounts for the AR Handle. Tried it a couple of times and what a neck strain.
Henry is the only person on you tube I always watch all the way through asking to join everytime. That is simply hilarious to me.
I do love seeing a SLR every now and again
I used the SUIT for 9 years, like everything in life if adjusted correctly it works as it was designed too. It was designed specifically for Northern Ireland. Made in Taunton, Somerset
Sight unit infantry trilux,we had the great SLR in the New Zealand Army in the 80s,heard about the sights but was never issued one lol first time we got optics was with the Steyr AUG
Love this firing sound
Loved the Indian Ishapores I bought 2. Converted one w a sniper scope and bi pod. The other 1 I left stock.
That is a thing of beauty and a joy forever.
The sight looks like a highly modernized version of the warner and swazey musket sight
I thought that too
I guess it's the eyepiece.
Best thing about suit sights was the nylon pouch it came in. In Northern Ireland one person in each team would have a suit sight fitted.
You talk shite. Obviously a craphat.
Love all your videos.
Please do more podcast sir the sound of your voice is calming lol.
Thank you and Josh for all the content.
The FAL doesn’t fail. Cheers.
Thankfully, Henry didn't get the Glasgow Kiss...
I use the STANAG on my L1A1 and it is a retyrn to battery scope that works very well.
Idea! C96 mauser! They have sights out to 1000 meters from the factory
FAL is one of my favorite rifles , but currently do not own one dang it ! I do have its grandfather though. An FN 49
The only way to wear a SUIT to the range.
The Camo shirt/jacket pattern you are wearing we called the mighty DPM (Disruptive Pattern Material)
Good thing he did this before bloke on the range’s vid was posted
Shooting even slightly downward is much nicer. Cheers for the vid lads.
Great Video 😊
great shooting as always
Don’t wanna be that guy, but the M14 with irons did better 😏. All jokes aside great shooting Henry and great video overall. FALs are fun to watch
looks a prestige rifle ... since I was a cadet , my platoon leader was training at the royal military's academy and he was commending with the SLR
Love y'all videos keep up great work 🔥🔥🔥
WE NEED TO see you shoot a Walther WA 2000. PLz and thank you
Waiting on your Famas with Scrome J4 optic review.
I had one of these with a preban Steyr import FN FAL.
The Belgian FAL and this copy of it was the last real quality militairy gun
The SLR is prone to failure to feed because of magazine manipulation. Thats why you dont hold the magazine or redt it on objects whilst shooting! I could aldo see you were going to have a failure to extract as it was short stoking. I found stting 3 to be the most reliable!
As always, your weapon handling is brilliant! No silly racking the action more than once to clear it, and safety aplied when not on target👍
Do the desert tech mdrx in .308 at range!
