It hurts being a "perfectionist," I think i can handle being an "improver." Now, if everyone will please get on board with my improvement plans..... Thanks guys!!

I feel like "improver" fits much better than "perfectionist" also. There are so many areas of life that I am not at all a perfectionist but I do try to improve.

Thank you for renaming us Ones as the Improvers. That is what their heart really wants and longs for. I feel ones have had a bad rap for a while. Stereotyped as an uptight, ridgid person who walks around commenting and criticizing. Although there is that going on sometimes it is ultimately to make the world a better place and out of love for the person or circumstance. XO

So love that you renamed us as "Improvers". It definitely speaks more to my motive and heart, rather than Perfectionist. Thank you for the video! So spot on for me as a #1, and good reminders for me during this time.

My sweet Improver wife is making a new recipe every day, has done a couple puzzles, painted a room, makes the bed look like a picture from a catalogue every day, and now wants me to help her transform the back yard into better space! ;-)

This series is brilliant! I am 2w1 and these tips are so great. My favorite one that I have never heard anywhere is to SING the self-criticism. Omgosh. I can see how it can be a game-changer!!! Thank you!!

Hi Julie, Trust me, it really works. By externalizing the voices with humor you eventually find yourself laughing at how absurd they really are.

Thanks for this, Ian. I am having a hard day. This time of being stuck in the house with all my thoughts and (hard to name) feelings and the constant voice that says, "you're not doing this right" is so much louder every day. I am trying to keep my %*&# together for my kids and husband (who drives for UPS) and am fighting the drive to be productive while feeling very stalled out with worry, fear, and the (dreaded-for-a-1) feeling of being totally out of control. I am supposed to be starting my dissertation, and perhaps this should be an ideal time to hunker down. But all I seem capable of doing right now is consuming at rapid-fire-pace news about Covid-19. Thanks for listening. Thanks for seeing us.

Love the Happy Birthday tip! I hope my husband doesn't mind when I do this at night while I am trying to get to sleep and my inner critic is on overdrive. As a 1 I have actually enjoyed this time as I don't feel like I have to be doing all the time and can actually sit down and relax.

Wow!! I’ve been trying to reform the “perfectionist” idea since I learned I identified with 1 two years ago. Improver is definitely a much better description. Especially since a 1 doesn’t want to be bad...perfectionist sounds bad.

I wish I had seen this 2-3 days ago. Lol. Have you been listening in at my house? Rigid, uncompromising and don’t know when to stop trying to improve. Sounds like me on Sunday. So yes, Monday started with apologies. Thank you for reminding me of...me. I’m ready to press on more alert in quarantine.

Love love love the content, very insightful and helpful in stressful times. One quick note for your consideration: could you please adjust the mixing volume of the intro song compared to your speaking volume. The intro almost always blasts my ears or peaks my speakers to where I am quickly taking out my earbuds, or slapping the dial on my car to avoid it. Although I do love the music and the vibe of it, it is always an annoyance while listening to the podcast. And I hate to be distracted from such good insightful work!
My wife is an enneagram 1 and this has been very insightful, looking forward to the post on 3’s! 👌🏻

Joel, thanks for pointing this out! I have the same issue with the bumper music. Many podcasts have music that is louder than the voices, but this one is more so than most.
Having said that, I love the music and the vibe, and I'm so happy y'all adjusted it. Ian and Anthony, I'm a faithful listener. Thank you for sharing all the wisdom you've accumulated!
Ian, I frequently recommend your book and podcast to others. Several years ago, I attended a conference in Austin with you and Suzanne. I wish I could've recorded it for later playback. So good!

Watch out for saying CV during vids right now, they are demonitizing vids for that...Type One here 😂. Thank you very much for your input, type 1 dominant individuals really do need help admitting vulnerabilities and realizing it's okay to have them Also becoming your own unconditional friend and watching those critical words. Super necessary. Apologizing can be difficult but can be done! Thanks
