I have a degree in psychology and pre medicine from ohio state. Charla is an advocate for mental health, but dont get it twisted, that man is NOT 100% with it lol. He has that Old Man Empathy where he understands some things well, and other things he has NO tolerance for 💀💀🤣🤣 Old Charla is still in there behind all the mainstream stuff

@user-oo3ok7rn2m so working in the department of psychiatry at partial hospital for 4 years, in an inpatient/outpatient clinic doesn't make me specifically credible when talking about this?
What about all the developmental psychology classes (my focus), I took? Books about anxiety? Hmmm I wonder

@@MandosCultureDon’t even bother with the illiterate. They don’t understand the concept of informed opinions.
Back to the point, you’re spot on about Charlamagne. He is a creepy old man through and through.
The same way some older women can poison the minds and hearts of young women, Charlamagne is the male equivalent.
The way old and malicious men do it is by investigating you, taking your known boundaries, and violating them just to get some sick twisted rise out of getting you to act out of character. He is exactly the type of man who would steal your ideas at work, grape you, stalk you, talk badly on your name, share revenge corn…all the predatory male behaviors into one…creep.
He thinks he is being satirical, but he lacks the talent and good will to accomplish that. He will be forgotten in history and it will serve him right. He is Andy Dick (had to search my memory to pull that reference🤣)

The question was silly. Americans need to understand there are other black people and countries with different histories. Race is a social construct, it is what it is and a lot of black people with African or Carribbean heritage see identify with place. We are Ghanaian, Nigeria, South African. We don't have this identity issue because most of us know where we are from. And for her the reason why she if referred to herself as that was because with the history to be this big is a major achievement.
Charla should educate himself and Americans stop challenging African people and their identity because we are not trying get ticks from you.

On this topic you guys need to do a bit more homework. AJs dissection was completely misinformed and is serving to misinform many others. The other dude mentioned her not getting "sarcasm" and there being a language barrier...the truth is, the barrier/lack of understanding is on the American end of this...The problem is that Americans think that their norms and standards apply globally. Granted, Tyla is in their country and on an American show doing promo, so the onus is on her to educate in that moment or atleast point people to google, lol.

I get why she didn’t answer the question. This was a lose lose situation for her. Whatever she said FBAs would kill her for it.
One this FBAs need to realise is their definition of blackness is not the only valid one and other groups in the diaspora view race differently. No one is right or wrong but you need to understand perspectives outside your own

    1. She is colored. In South Africa, you have black people and colored people. Colored people speak a different language and black South Africans speak a different language and have a different culture to the black South Africans. I am a black South African she is colored. If she started saying she is black now, she would offend her colored people in South Africa. On her Passport and ID, it says her race is colored not black.... Educate yourselves.

Honestly, it is a "narrative" that South Africans still suffer from a colonized mentality... similar to us here in America.
We're all very ignorant to the inner cultural dynamics outside of our own. I listen to learn, but if a person is not immersed you won't understand.
With the little bit that I know, it's definitely hard listening to people who are absolutely clueless.

@@dually81 what ya’ll don’t know is that..we in South Africa actually acknowledge both races in a biracial person!! That’s why they are called colored..because they aren’t black nor white!! They are both..hence colored. And coloreds like to live amongst themselves in SA.
As appose to the US..where one drop of black makes you black and the white side is disregarded and disrespected. Stop talking about things ya’ll don’t know about. Stick to American racism and hip hop please.
And ya’ll never had a black President!!! OBAMA IS A COLORED

i think when it came to that question she may have not been able to articulate the words well and didn't want to fumble over her answer that would have lead to a viral sound bite. I've been to south Africa and they even view and classify mixed people as their own race. I'm not saying that any of the history us ignored but if you look at the demographic most south Africans are under the age of 30 so they don't have the same experience of learning our history from our elders as they did so to them they feel so far removed from that time in history.

Coloureds in South Africa does not mean the same as colored in American. American culture does not dominate around the world. The two words are not even spelled the same in South Africa and America. Coloureds in South Africa (the languge Afrikaans) are multiracial persons. Colored here in America means Black Americans or Black people. If I was Tyla's handler I would have avioded the question too because of Charlamange's ignorance. Tyla had to clear it up on X not because of wanting to answer the question, Tyla responded on X because of the backlash that it caused by more ignorance being spewed about the situation.

You guys have different rules when driving, different education, etc. would it make sense for me as a black American go to Africa and tell them these are the new rules you must abide by because I’m not African but America. Would it be okay to then state to you “Africans need to get over it because everything isn’t about you” all while being in YOUR home land? I must RESPECT your rules if I’m in Africa, I would abide by your rules. I know that I will be called a “colored” in your country because I am mixed but I am black here in my home land. Would I have a fight there? Respect our culture as a guest in our home.

The thing is we don’t care what happens in SA. If we were in SA we’d respect you guys calling mixed race colored. Here in America we are black. We don’t call mixed race something different because we are 1. I think we just have to respect one another’s cultures. If I am in your home I respect your culture but if you are in our home you must respect our culture. Tyla can’t come here imposing her own culture on us thinking she’ll force feed it to us. We are BLACK, WE ARE 1.
