  • In this video viewers spend time with 3 big tractors seeding 1,200 acres of winter wheat per day. Watch for a 620 hp John Deere 9620R 4wd, a 620 hp 9620RX track tractor, a 600 hp Challenger MT875E track tractor pulling 3 60ft Horsch Panther 60 air drills These three big seeding teams are covering 11,000 acres of ground to plant the 2020 wheat crop. In the video we ride in the cab of the Challenger tractor and visit with the farmer about this big seeding operation.

    Billy did a masterful job being diplomatic about the three tractors strengths and weaknesses. But, I think the fact he's been in the Challenger the last 2 videos shows what his personal preference is.
    Please tell him and his family thank you for letting us all watch their operation. Very interesting and educational.

      Thank you for watching. You are correct you will most often find Billy cruising at top speed in the Challenger. It’s the only non John Deere tractor on the farm. This is a 2019 MT875E that just replaced a similar 2017 MT875E. Billy has run a Challenger MT800 since 2006 trading every two years so this is Challenger number 8.

Inthe field you can see it's large equipment, however on the road it's massive taking up both lanes in each direction. How heavy are those Horst wheat planters ? It looks well built, heavy guage steel frames with large wheels. 600 bushels that grain cart is as large as a truck. Very nicely done. Got a question about combines. What is the main factor why a farmer would buy a 9250 over a 8250? They seem to be the same except for the horsepower. Does a little higher HP really matter that much?

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  4 роки тому +3

      More horse power means allot in my opinion. Filming class 8 and 9 combines together in a field with the same heads I see the class 8 lag behind. In wheat both an 8 and 9 running 40ft heads side by side I feel like eating my arm to motion the 8 to hurry up because the 9 is pulling away fast. In corn with a 12 row head a nine just eats it and pours the grain out. An 8 does well but the 9 cover more acres in a day.

    Hi there. I enjoy watching your videos. I am from central Kansas. I am a custom sprayer applicator. What is a better tool to use- a high speed disc? Or a Kenzie diamond harrow? I want to know which one is better on rough ground like terraces or just plain rough ground.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  2 роки тому +1

      It all really depends on what you want your seedbed to look like. Both are great tillage implements. The high speed disk will work up to 6 inches deep and really chop up stalks and work out ruts as well as wash outs. The Kelly only works 1.5 inches down. It will not remove wash outs. The Kelly will mix residue and break up stalks. It incorporates fertilizer well and knocks out tire traffic imprints. The Kelly never has to be raised on turns. A farm I know that runs a 45ft Kelly can stay 600 acres ahead of the corn planter with a days work.

      siikais90 you are correct reference emergence. To counter this we spread a slighter higher rate than the guys who drill. Our yields are on par with guys who drill. The xtra capex/diesel costs are greater than the xtra kgs of seed per hectare. Not saying what they are doing is wrong, I just think there is a more efficient and cheaper way. All combines have some loss. It just shows up well here because the warm weather allows it to sprout and grow. The green plants make it look worse than it is.

      Thats decent but in western australia we did about 445 acres a day with a JD8370RT with a 45 Feet bourgault seeding setup

    Always wonder why you have to make it appear different than it is. It should say 3 600 hp. Tractors seeding up to 1200 acres per day. You left the impression that one tractor did it. The farmer said the 3 rigs could get 1200 acres in a good day but said 1000 was more like it, in a big field. Disappointing to say the least.

      Absolutely not. Big family with three generations operating the farm each day and supporting several families.

    Are they still running these same drills. I wonder if the Garnett's will have a need for the bigger 9RX 710,770, or 830, or if they are not interested in the bigger models? Don't know if they really have a need for them with their current implements? They have always run the biggest models available in the past.
