Kind of a toss up on which Liu had the most incompetent son. Liu Biao and Liu Cong, Liu Bei and Liu Shan or Liu Yan and Liu Zhang. It seems being a failed parent with a disappointing heir runs in the family.
Oh definitely Liu Bei/Shan. Liu Zhang was loved by his people while Liu Cong really would have had a hard time of it once Cao Cao came knocking around.
@@lazyc0mmander277 Liu Shan had a long reign with relatively little infighting within Shu though compared to the succession crises in Wu and the Sima-Cao struggles in Wei.
@@lazyc0mmander277 But Liu Shan didn't have any particular standout failures apart from his surrender to Wei (but I mean lets be honest, after 50 years of northern expeditions a peaceful surrender is better than a brutal fight to the end). All 3 Liu sons surrendered in the end instead of fighting to the bitter end, as they were more peace-loving, people loving leaders than warriors. In times of peace, they would've shone, but in times of war, they are regarded as weak.
I didn't actually notice that you did lore history videos until earlier today, when I watched your Shi Xie series. I love learning more about historical figures (and also how to properly pronounce their names), so I'll have to go back and watch some more because these are pretty great!
Please continue this type of seried for other heroes as well! I am studying san guo and now reading Wang Xiaolei's biography on Caocao and it is so interesting to see all the characters intertwined together in times.
So who else in the Three Kingdoms period had these province-wide 'governor' powers besides Liu Yan and Liu Biao? In your fall of the Han let's talk lore, you mentioned a few 'Governors' of the Liang Province but I assume they were merely 'inspectors' or 'prefects.' What powers did people like Liu Dai and Tao Qian have?
Tao Qian was the governor of Xu before his death, Yuan Shao was the governor of Ji, Cao Cao was the governor of Yan, Liu Bei was the governor of Yu, so you see once the governor was created pretty much everyone who went on to become a warlord was a governor at some point
Xi Jian is an alternative name for the already available faction leader Que Jian, who starts in MoH as the Yi Prefect in Hanzhong-Baxi area, north of Dong Yue and south of Yuan Yi
Thank you i can learn more and more, i think the rivers flow from mountainous region in the west to Yellow sea in the east, it's possible to sails upstream to Yi?
Yes the naval routes into the Ba ports have always been the easiest way into the Yo Province. But historically not always the best military approach because (one you are sailing upstream) and two once you land the Ba region is extremely mountainous and easy to defend
if governors were not implemented until around 190 then why was liu biao a faction in 182 in mandate of heaven when presumably he wouldn't have been assigned there yet?
@@hoffmannsama According to Rafe, that was one of his staff officers Dong Zhuo killed for the dog issue, and Dong Zhuo cannot lay a finger on Zhao Qian out of respect. He would retire and enter service again right after the Chang'an Conflict between Wang Yun and Dong Zhuo's loyalists, becoming, for a brief moment, Grand Excellency Over the Masses. He croaks in the same year as a Court Secretariat
Maybe it’s romance affecting my perception but Liu Yan seems way better than Liu Zhang. One thing I like about your videos is how they make me realize that i am butchering the pronouncing of the names 😂
Liu Yan suffered from what we call Padme Syndrome. He died of a previous injury and sadness,
man Liu zhang also has really bad daddy issues in a literal sense perfect for the world betrayed dlc
Liu Yan released Zhang Lu as a vassal to act as a buffer zone lmao he watched to much Serious Trivia.
Unfortunately Zhang Lu has the "Defiant" faction trait and Liu Yan didn't immediately annex
This is really becoming quite a nice history channel.
its kinda scary how accurate the chief astrologer in term future emperor in yi province, well it happen. not for liu yan bloodline tho

Liu yan has two more competent son but they're died earlier

Love your videos. I started watching when you first started playing Total war three kingdoms and I’ve been subscribed ever since. Keep it going!
The lore videos are honestly great. Thank you.

Correct that surname can be pronounced both ways
Thanks for the video!
Enjoy this so much! I just play Liu yan in the game, I must said, not easy at all
here to support you. Great content, keep up! 加油哈!
You'd make a great history teacher. Love the visual aids.
Very interesting story for a person I knew very little about

Is Liu Chong worthy enough to get a lets talk serious? or is he a random CA favorit? Great work indeed Serious Trivia!
his faction preview video was basically a let's talk lore if you want to check one out
@@SeriousTrivia i did. Time to rewatch

the game takes liberties lol
Wow! This jia long dude is a hero 🦸♀️
Liu zhang: my dad said whoever gains shu could become emperor.
Used car sales man: oh really ....🤡🤠🤑😼🎃
Not even an elder nor a favorite son. Jia Long is remarkably admirable
Will you be playing liu yan, on 190 start tommorow?
Yep!
@@SeriousTrivia Finally! Looking forward!!
was this the only time this Zhao Qian was mentioned or was he someone of importance?
