  • Back pain SUCKS, especially if you're trying to train BJJ. Now I'm NOT a doctor, but this is the story of how I recovered from back pain supposedly caused by a herniated disk, and I'd be very interested in hearing YOUR story in the comments too.

    I'm a poor, old, out-of-shape schlub. But damn, if I had money and was managing a fighter... you would be the trainer I hired. Not because I think you are the most-skilled BJJ practicioner, but because I think you are generally wise. I think you could not only come up with a decent-enough training program, but you would also be the best guy to keep a fighter grounded and focused -- and sometimes that can be the most important thing. Can't believe that some of the UFC camps haven't approached you with dump truck full of money yet.
    And as someone who has repeatedly struggled with sciatic pain... your advice is spot on. I would only add that physical therapists often punch above their weight and can be the most useful medical assistants.
    Good to see you recovered from covid and keeping at it. Best wishes to you. Keep up the good work.

    I have been training with bulging discs for years now, I just keep training, if it gets bad a have some time off and let my back rest, stretch, anti inflammatory’s and strength training when I can. When I train I chose my partners wisely, being a black belt in my 40s everyone wants to go hard so sometimes I have to tell people “not today maybe next week”

      @@quasar4601 aww wow, I pray it works out well for you. I have zero faith in the medical field after Covid and the lies they pushed, and all the cover ups they have followed, so I’d rather live with the pain. Please post a follow up if you can after your operation.

    I’ve had a bulging disc for decades - sciatica and the whole bit; however, my understanding is when it’s herniated it’s a slipped disc and you can’t do much of anything - at one point i couldn’t get out of bed.

    What was the realignment technique?

    • @StephanKesting
      @StephanKesting  Місяць тому +2

      The SI joint can go out of alignment in at least three different ways (up and down, rotating forward or back, and tilting left or right), so that needs to be diagnosed first. In my case my left ilium was riding a bit high on my sacrum, so I needed to traction my left leg (but not my right) until I felt a very gentle pop and then 90% of the pain was immediately gone. I repeat that process whenever it comes back. It was startling how reliable a cure this was for me, but - once again - it may not be a cure for you!

      @@StephanKesting what is this traction exactly? is this like using an inversion table or foam-rolling or something? Sorry, not familiar with what the realignment/traction technique is

      @@lewis843 I did it a couple of ways, but most commonly I would lie on my back, bring the foot of my affected side up to my butt, then a constant pressure to my thigh to push that leg downward. But as I said, this is useless if you don't know which type of SI misalignment you have and on which side
