So a little information about the Devil Fruits: they all have the same drawback which is that the person who eats it is cursed by the sea and loses their ability to swim. Also if they are caught in any body of water, they lose their strength.

You guys missed an important detail. That woman said the drawback to eating a devil fruit IS losing the ability to swim. You Don’t lose a part of yourself, just the ability to swim. And Shanks swam there to save Luffy, so it wasn’t a devil fruit ability he used. It’s something much more powerful that’ll take a while to be explained.
The live action didn’t have him swimming unfortunately so it made it much more confusing for new watchers

To clarify, Luffy cannot be hurt by impact but can by piercing and bladed weaponry. Buggy is the opposite, immune to being pieced and sliced but not to impacts.
By impacts you mean blunts, attacks that causes blunts like hammers.

Actually Devil Fruit users has the same weakness, sea water. Also, they are a hammer in water. They will sink. Just to clarify, Shanks is not a DF user. In the anime, he was swimming to save Luffy which is a confirmation that he hasn't eaten a DF. But they can't really show his injury if they let him swim so maybe that's why he was in a boat in live action.
With this show's success, I have high hopes for a second season. 🫶🏼
Some devil fruits can alter your general appearance, but Buggy has ALWAYS had that nose. Weakness to water, especially sea water, comes with EVERY devil fruit.
Edit: Also, Shanks does NOT have a devil fruit ability; but telling you any more would be a spoiler.

Drinking water for hydration and eating salt on food do not, but all bodies of water do.

Devil Fruits aren't the only sources of power in the One Piece world, meaning not everyone who has a weird ability ate one.
The ability to swim is the price for all devil fruits. Buggy's nose is just like that since childhood.
They actually made Axe-Hand Morgan less of a dick and Buggy more sadistic than their manga counterparts.
Buggy is fucking scary in the beginning in the manga as well, a total psycho. It's just later that we have kinda forgotten about it.
For those that don't know, this show is an adaptation of the manga, not the anime; some scenes will be different if you watch the anime. The sea king (what "One Piece" calls the sea monsters) bit off Shanks' arm and the power that he used to drive the sea king away is not devil fruit related. That power will likely be revealed in a later season.
The cost to all Devil Fruit eaters is the same; you can't swim in the ocean; it weakens you to the point that you can't move.
Also, Buggy's appearance isn't related to the Devil Fruit.
They struck gold with Buggys actor, he's the best cast character in the show and that says a lot because others are also perfect.

The Sea Beast did just bite off Shanks' arm, the only drawback you get for eating a DF is not being able to swim, more specifically the sea turns its back on you and Sea Water makes you weak, but there area some rules to it, I honestly forgot most of them but what I do remember is "a few splashes" of Sea Water wouldn't weaken a DF user.
Also there are Powers in One Piece that aren't Devil Fruits, some people just have some special supernatural abilities.
They did 90 chapters in 1 season of 8 episodes. I think in 10 seasons they can reach around 900 - 1000 chapters

@@RB01.10 Yes, but its in its last Saga so 5 more years probably. So by the time 8th season kicks in it will be finish. I know people from the outside thinks it won't finish but that's not it. Story constantly being moving, and World is just too big. Its building up to something like Endgame War BUT literally 50xtimes bigger and better. It will be the greatest war ever written on fiction so that's why its taking so long

When Shanks gave Luffy his hat, I started to cry
Everytime I watch or rewatch that scene as a fan I tear up. Doesn't matter if it's LA or Anime. The whole story makes the words Luffy and Shanks say that much more emotional.
When Shanks confronted the sea monster he was wet from saving Luffy so his power wasn’t from a devil fruit.
Fun fact, devil fruits are actually pretty rare. Not many people know about them. So in the East blue, since they're so rare, people consider them a myth. That's why you'll be luckily to see double digit amount of them outside The Grand Line. But with devil fruits, what you lose is your ability to swim. That's for every devil fruit, Buggy's nose has always been like that. And Shanks didn't eat one, I won't say what that was that he did, I'd rather it be a surprise, and yeah it ate his arm

Also, just to clear up the info given on devil fruits from this chapter. When you eat one you gain some power or strength, but the drawback is that you loose your ability to swim, you get weak in seawater.
There's more than one power system in this setting. Devil Fruits are actually probably the least common.

Yea so the show does make it feel like shanks has a devil-fruit power, but I was confused because I specifically remembered thinking he didn’t have one and I had to rewatch the anime to remember why. In the anime you see Shanks swimming to save Luffy which he wouldn’t be able to do if he had eaten a devil fruit.
Without spoiling anything. There are other power systems in One Piece besides devil fruits.

Hello, the world is separate into four. The grand line and the red line seperates the it into 4. The Blues (North, West, East, and South)
Edit: surrounding the grand line is something called the calm belt. A place with no wind and filled with monsters.
Edit 2: @25.01 Shanks is not a devil fruit user. Its will be shown again in Alabasta if the show reached there.
If you look closely you can see Shanks arm flying off. ^^

Buggy's nose is just like that, it doesn't have anything to do with his Devil Fruit. He went with the clown aesthetic to help draw attention away from it or make people think it's fake. He straight up killed one of his crew in the manga when he thought he was talking about his nose. RIP, that guy.

Oh this is radically condensed. These eight episodes covers the whole East Blue Saga and the Diary of Koby-Meppo cover stories. That's more than 95 chapters of the manga. These first two episodes alone cover 21 chapters.
Funfact Luffy's crew in the anime is named the straw hats.

Yes the word is divide into 4 and the problem is that th grand line has 2 zones on on north other on south of grand line called calm velts and they are dead oceans zone no current no wind's, u simply cant navigate there without a motor...

21:50 That’s not how it works. Every devil fruit has the same drawback, regardless of what powers they get. They can’t swim because the sea drains their stamina. So Buggy has the same weakness as Luffy, his nose has nothing to do with his devil fruit. He was born with that nose.

Devil Fruits are separated in 3 classes
Zoan: The ability to transform into any animal, even extinct animals like dinosaurs. Theres a subcategory if ancient like mythology creatures or gods.
Logia: Turns the entire body into an elemental earth and control that certain element in its environment like fire, sand and smoke.
Paramecia: This is luffys power, turns the human body just very different, like super human. The most common and different from the other two.

That creature Shanks scare away is called a Sea King. Is a creature of incredible power, that eel one is rare because is far away from where they use to live. Also, Shanks didn't eat a devil fruit, he really intimidated the sea king with a look.

Not a spoiler, buggy was born with a rounded big nose, the only and universal set back that eating a devil fruit gives you is that sea water takes away your strength, if you're submerged in it you drop like a hammer and can't move, it's like an extreme exhaustion more so than a paralysis

the only weakness devil fruits have is seawater more precisely the concept of being submerged in water, although there are certain devil fruits that have certain weaknesses based on their abilities for example Luffy's rubber fruit is very strong against blunt attacks but it offers no protection against slash attacks other fruits, later on will have weaknesses against other fruits simply based on the abilities the fruits offer but those are unique cases to those fruits, there are more "weaknesses" but I doubt the live action will ever go that far into the story

I suggest you guys watch the episodes off stream too, because you skipped so much important dialog which explained many of your questions. Not complaining, it makes for good content, but for enjoying the show more, at least pay attention to the dialog in one watch through.

We have no evidence to suggest that one piece influenced attack on titan. Just because something comes after something else and is similar doesn’t mean the author copied or gained inspiration from it. These character devices and ways of telling stories are as old as time.

And Devil Fruit is just one of them, what Shanks did is a more advanced type of power that you at this point in the story should not know yet. But I'm sure you know something is up so yeah, you just gotta wait for the show to explain it
