I was 2 months old when my parents adopted me in the 80s. They were always open about where I came from and that I was adopted which I now see was a positive impact on my childhood and self journey. As a child, a concept so hard to understand, they found books, poems and ways to convey the meaning in various ways. It was and is always a safe space to discuss adoption and our experience as a family. The best was when they said that my biological parents gave me as a gift to them because god knew we were supposed to be a family. People respond to my adoption with curiosity which I am open about to help advocate and normalize it. The response that always hits me is, “your parents must have really wanted you.” Also, we always celebrate my “gotcha day” which is like a second birthday when my parents “got me” and every year we reflect on that life changing day and I receive cards of how lucky they are because of us coming together. ❤

Same story here... Lol but 20 years earlier... I was blessed with fantastic parents we may not have had riches but we were so happy. My wider family of Aunts Uncles and cousins helped me ( an only child) feel part of a huge family unit. Although both parents have passed on my love and appreciation and, above all, thankfulness have made me who I am today. Adoption is a fantastic gift both to the child and the adoptive parents.

When we adopted my sister with special needs it was a huge blessing. It was a family endeavor!! It still is, nearly 20 years later. She is cognitively a 7 year old, but God uses her to remind us of TRUTH and true love daily.
Many prayers for your wonderful family and sending love from Minnesota!

My husband was adopted and the one thing he has struggled with off and on over the years is abandonment and not feeling wanted by his birth family. He copes with it much better now that he’s older but there’s always those unanswered questions that remain. No amount of assurance can take that sting away. What has helped is learning some of the specific circumstances behind his adoption. My advice is to write down everything you know so maybe someday you can fill in some gaps for your little girl. Praying for you all🙏🏻

My mom was adopted by her own mothers sister (my gma gave my mom to her sister) and still went into therapy over the rejection. My gma stayed in her life, lived very nearby, my mom called her Mother n him Daddy. She called her aunt (who adopted her) not mom but another name.
My mom felt very rejected even tho she had a whole life with her mom. Mostly becuz her older sister lived with their mom n dad. My mom just wasn’t wanted n her aunt couldn’t have kids so the 2 sisters thought they’d pass her around like a puppy (born in 1945).

We adopted our first child, our daughter, as an infant. We tried to get pregnant for ten years and she’s the one that made us parents. She has struggled heavily with abandonment issues her entire life. I wish we (and her) had attended a support group for adopted parents and children to understand the issues she struggled with. It has been tough. She is 42 now and doing better. We love her so much.

I love seeing other people adopt. I have a 5 year old boy that I have adopted and I’m in the process of adopting 2 little girls. They are all foster to adopt so they’ve all been through a lot in their tiny lives but they’re good now and I couldn’t imaging not having them in my life. There is a purpose for everything that happens and these little come to us and all we need to do is give them the unconditional love they deserve.

My husband and I adopted a new baby boy when we were 53 years old. I think one of the coolest things was when we saw our name on a birth certificate for a child we didn't give birth too. He's 10 now and he is our everything. Unlike ya'll, we fought in court for three years for him. Never once was he taken from our home from the court or biological mom. It was very stressful, but it was God's plan and it turned out exactly how he planned. Enjoy this journey. She is precious, as are all your babies. I love how they love her.

From being adopted and not being told anything about it until I was 16 years old. I ran away from home. I felt so betrayed. From my experience as a child and my sons experience. If you tell them from the beginning the truth. About their parents and how much you love her and why you wanted to be her parents. The more well adjusted and better people they become in the long run.

SO, about the forgotten diaper bag. My youngest baby is a 4-year-old and I still just keep a change of clothes and wipes in the car always. When she was smaller, I had a few diapers and a small pack of wipes in the pouch behind the seat of my car... in case of emergencies or if I forgot. It's not everything you need for a tiny but it was enough to get me through errands and back home. I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOUR FAMILY!! LOVE FROM DALLAS, TEXAS!!!!

By my fourth baby, I learned to put a small bin under the seat in the car that was my "diaper bag" as back up. Just packed essentials in it: diapers, wipes, bottle, formula if I was using it or snacks as they got older (though, maybe some dried out wipes for you guys so they don't freeze, then just add water which you probably can use a water bottle for). Saved my mommy hide more then once!! Haha. Keep up the good work.

We treated our adopted daughter just like our other kids! I never wanted her feel different! In my heart there was no difference. I would pray and come against the spirit of rejection! I watch Long, lost family about adults who were put up for adoption! This might give you some insight! I would tell my grandsons to pray for their Korean grandparents salvation so we would meet them in heaven one day! I pray my daughter would meet her biological family, which seems impossible but nothing is impossible with God! Pray for wisdom! Congratulations that God chose you to be her parents! ❤

Best advice as a foster/adoptive mum in Australia, bring all children up the same, same rites of passage, opportunities and experiences, everyone is equal. Also life story books and memory boxes are important for all children but especially for children you do not birth. I tell my younger two “we chose you” and they have appreciated that. ❤❤❤❤❤

We sisters were 1st to see him, while Mom and Dad signed papers. My parents also took us out of school to go to court on the day the adoption was finalized. He understood from the beginning of the circumstances surrounding his birth. He is so very loved.I feel it's very important to tell the child when she can understand about the adoption. God's blessings for you and your family for the new family member !

Hey guys, I have Starlink and live deep in the woods like you. It's been working well and has a nifty feature for extreme weather where there is a heater on the dish which melts snow and ice. I hope that you have success connecting to a fast, reliable signal. It is a bit spendy to buy the initial equipment but worth it! Congratulations on your lovely baby girl! You are all blessed.

I was adopted at a similar age and even I experienced loss and grief over my biological family. Allow her to experience that and support her through it. It will only help to strengthen your bond.

My husband and I are going to do foster care, and we very much are hoping to adopt. The past 10 years have been busy dealing with my health issues, but I received a kidney transplant 9 months ago, and we are praying that the time is right. My ultimate dream is to adopt a group of older siblings and be able to keep them together, but we are open to any possibility, and since following your journey, I have been praying that God will work out a plan for us as beautifully as He has for your family!

Had a friend adopted. She was told always about it in different ways and how much she was loved and they choose her. They always celebrate her birthday day and adoption day/ gotcha day. Her mom left her a letter she got it at 18 it helped alot. Praying always.

I was adopted when I was a baby by a aunt. My real mom had my younger sister a day from me being a year old. My aunt took me to help my mom. I never went back. My aunt daughter are older then me. I know it was best for me. It was hard raised like a only child. It was hard at time knowing I had sisters and a brother. So time why me,but I always knew I was adopted. Love you Somers family.

Not a adoptive parent but a teacher and one thing that I saw that worked well was the adoptive parent made a my family picture book that told the story of the birth family and the adoptive family with lots of photos. One thing experts say is to let the child know from the beginning they are adopted but that they are apart of your family and for littles books work best since they can go back to it over and over again.

I adopted my niece and nephew by myself at 32 years old. They are 8 and 12 now. I have had them for a few years. They are my world.
People say they are lucky to have me but I am lucky to have them. They have changed my life.
