When I was stationed at Ft Wainwright for 3 yrs I would spend many hours out just sitting in car watching North Lights for hours, this was back in the mid to late 1970s!
I was stationed at Ft. Wainwright from 87 to 91. The first time I saw the northern lights was a very crazy night. The Armorer reported a bayonet was missing. The 1SG spent most of the night yelling, banging on doors, cursing. What he is going to do to who ever took it as such. I remember a few guys from 2nd Platoon locked themselves out of their room so one stood at parade rest while the other ran up and down the side walk doing pushups every time he came back. Their squad leader wasn't amused with them. finally around 4 AM we had a company formation. The 1SG was making statements not having anything to do with anything and we would say 'hooah' after each time and then in passing, he said the armorer miscounted and that every good infantryman learns to cope with 'things' like this, 'hooah' and we would say 'hooah'. and then he pointed up to the sky and said 'look there are the norther lights'. This was the first time I was them. A night I will never forget.
I am planning to take my youngest son to Chena Hot Springs around Christmas 2023 when he comes back home. He just left on deployment with the Marines today. Please be thankful to have your boys with you. They grow up so fast and then you can’t protect them anymore.
That is a gorgeous gorgeous awesome light show. God is so good to us when he gets to show off His Creation. Thank you for sharing your amazing adventure with all of us.
Beautiful Northern Lights. That is #1 on My Bucket List but being handicapped now somewhat I doubt I will ever see them. I loved the Ice Sculptures. I have watched Somers in Alaska and Violet Logs for a long time. My husband and I took a cruise to Alaska years ago in September 2010 and I loved the clean air smell. The weather was beautiful. We went to Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway. Thank you for the showing the Chino Springs too.
I can’t even fathom the beauty of the sky. I love spending time with my sister when I can. We are miles apart but that doesn’t stop us. Enjoy your togetherness
You got to see the Northern Lights twice!! How fantastic are the photos, though, that the tour company took 👍 I loved Santa's house, never too old for a little Christmas magic. The ice carvings, even though incomplete just seeing how it's done, are amazing. I loved every single moment of this trip. ❤️
Thank you Lauren for your interesting weekend with your sister in Fairbanks, I enjoyed it all but I enjoyed the Northern Lights the most. Take care and stay safe and warm ❤️ 👍🙏

What s super few days, you had. And the best was seeing the beautiful Aurora Borealis! I love the Santa Clause House. We stopped there, after Delta Junction, coming in from the Yukon, heading towards Fairbanks on our 2nd visit, a bazillion years ago...when the Santa Clause house was smaller. Some year we will return! Thanks for taking us along. Vickie from SE Pa
What a great getaway. Such a "cool" place to visit; so much to see and do. The Northern Lights we're gorgeous. It looked like the heated jacket was working; hope it kept you warm and toasty. Thanks for sharing your sister trip.
Loved your video and seeing your trip with your sister. I wish I could go to the springs but am highly allergic to sulfur that I couldn't go near it. Looked so fun! Welcome back.

The Northern Lights were spectacular! Looks like you both had a wonderful trip! Thanks for taking us along! The Ice Festival was very interesting, lots of work went into that!
We spent a week in Fairbanks last July. If you ever get a chance to go up during the summer, do the Discovery boat tour on the Chena River and go eat at the Pump House. It’s so funny that we hit every spot that you did on your visit, except for the ice obviously. Glad you had a great time with your sister and got to see the northern lights.
I soo enjoyed all things Fairbanks/ Alaska. Thx very much for sharing your amazing state and your visit w your sister! I have friends who recently moved to Fairbanks bc her husband was being stationed there w AF . They will have lots to enjoy as a family there. Blessings, Susan
How wonderful ❤️ I really enjoyed the video's. My year has not been good, my mom passed away on January 4th and 3 weeks later Mt hubby 😢 was in the hospital for 16 days and now is home on comfort care. Your video's are a pick me up thank you and God bless 🙌 🙏
That was a wonderful trip you shared, Lauren. My nephew is stationed up in the North Pole area and occasionally sends some northern lights photos. Those bowls and wooden designs were beautiful! I bet you were excited to return home to your boys!
The Northern lights were so beautiful!!! Everything you did looked so fun and interesting! We have been getting some Northern Lights here in Saskatchewan which isn't unusual but it is in my area! I haven't had the chance to go see any because I get up so earlier for work!
Glad you made it to the North Pole. Shame you couldn't get some warm tops from Melissa while there. They don't disappoint keeping you comfy in the cold temperatures. Really enjoy the ice carvings and activities. Just love the Alaskan Bowl Company. Sherry goes there and it's full of wonderful gifts.
what a fantastic stuffs you have showed us about fairbanks and find really interesting and beautiful there.:: i came close of coming to fairbanks ways back in 2008 but i ended up getting sick and didn’t go to fairbanks from washington state.: so ill have another opportunity to do so soon to make trip to fairbanks one of my longtime goals
Good Afternoon Hamm Family ❤️ It's a cold, dreary, rainy day here in Virginia. Mother Nature is being bipolar. The weather app says it's 46°F, but feels like 44°F. The humidity is 95%, but unlike summer, it's a chilly, yet comfy type of humidity. Got the storm-door window cracked. Loving this lazy day... makes me wanna take a nap 🥱 I definitely will check into the Aurora in Alaska tour company if I ever make it to Alaska. Love when companies go the extra mile to make their customers' experiences that much better. The Aurora is absolutely mesmerizing, so beautiful. You and Megan look so happy. The time-lapse was amazing. Our son's friends just experienced the Aurora in North Dakota a week ago, give or take. Even when things don't go as planned, make the most of each adventure. You may get to experience something new from what didn't go according to plan 🌌 Love the architecture and artwork of Santa Claus's House. The ice cream, bakery and other fare, as well as, all the fun products look amazing. Love the Moose pajamas and I really want one of those gnomes 🤶🏻 I knew Reindeer are the domesticated cousin of the wild Caribou; what I didn't know, were the laws regarding the selling of Alaska wildlife as food. It makes sense that you want to make sure the products are safe for consumption. I guess this means no Alaska Boys Jerky for me 😕 Love the Moose sculpture at the entrance to the Cookie Jar. Too cute. That cinnamon roll... add a cup of hot tea... ahhh... bliss 😌 I have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to sand, snow and ice sculptures I've found and love online. I've been to a few sand sculpture competitions/festivals in Florida and Virginia. Ice and snow takes it up a notch. The talent is awe-inspiring. So many beautiful works of art. The blue of the ice is a beauty unto itself. Megan looked like she was having a blast on the sled ride. You both were having too much fun playing all those ice games 🧊 The Great Alaska Bowl Company is something I'll definitely have to look up. So much amazing, fun, yummy and beautiful products. My favs: the Bear-shaped and the Moose-engraved cutting boards, the Alaska Sourdough Cookbook and the painted bowls, especially the purple floral one 💐 Love the indoor and outdoor murals at The Crepery. Beautiful, just like the food. My favorite crepe is: Nutella with bananas, strawberries and fresh whipped cream... Yummy 😋 I'm so happy that you and Megan had such a wonderful adventure. Thank you for taking me along 🙂 Hi Mark, Boys and Miss Luna. Everett's and Weston's smiles say it all, "Welcome Home Mom" 😍 Have a wonderful day and weekend ahead. Stay safe. Stay warm. Stay happy. Yah's Blessings ❤️
