So, Chris contacted me to let me know that apparently they found that slight wiggle was a bug from a rounding error in AE. The next scheduled update will address it. That will likely mean that I'd only have to track most of these just the first time.
Thanks! For something properly lit, you could do it once and it’s set. Most of mine were pretty close on the first track. Chris is also working on workflow updates as well. So I’ll update here as that goes along.

That's fine by me! Use the right tool for the job. I will say that the tracker in Lockdown seems to even work on flat areas and it's more accurate than AE's so it'd work if you don't have a specific feature to track. Lockdown seems to be like a blend of Mocha's ability to track similar pixels and AE's point tracker.
Neat insight. Really though under the hood isn't that what 90% of "pro" tools are doing just repurposing|combining existing features into a smoother prepackaged workflow. Here it probably be a quite a bit of work scripting a tool to create a tracked array of points to work with the puppet tool and that's before making a UI AND tracking flat black surfaces.
Just saw the Aaron Draplin Ted talk. Oh man. What an inspiration. I feel like I can design anything. For all you artists out there who started your career designing a logo for a burrito. You are not alone. We make the world better.
You'd have to file a support ticket. I haven't had that issue. I don't think they've coded their own functionality, I think the script just uses AE's own precompose functionality-but it does set up timing according to the original clip. If it's time remapped or something that might affect it.
hey guys, i'm on a mac and i can't get past step 3 because when i command click & drag, it just drags the layer, no points. malo! any idea what i might be doing wrong? thanks
That I haven't tried. Turning around with any tracker would only ever work 180, then you'd need to track the other side if you still wanted that to stick to the front side. There's been a few major upgrades since this version, and I haven't had a chance to use them yet.

@@TheNewton Yeah, I think if you need a more complex array or to track a relatively featureless area, Lockdown would be the better bet.

Hefty but worth it if you need to do that sort of tracking.

You need to have the Lockdown effect selected to affect its mesh-that allows it to supersede After Effect's normal controls.
