At what point do you recommend an MRI for facial paralysis? My Shar-pei mix pup was diagnosed with facial paralysis (left side) due to ear infection or side effect from osurnia medication to treat ear infection.
I have a boxer pit you has the facial paralysis after three months of the drool, titled head to left and left side paralysis her eye left is still as you described and runs a lot however her face the was dropped is now pulled back tighter than her normal side, any reason why the opposite effect now? Thanks

Depends on the cause. Facial nerve paralysis can be due to idiopathic, ear infection, inflammation, tumor and other causes. Each has a different treatment and prognosis. If possible, neurologist consult and mri would be advisable.
I love your channel and have learned so much. I would love if you can do a video on GME. I have a 3 year old male French bulldog who was diagnosed with GME in November. He has increased signaling at t8-10. I noticed his nails scrapping the ground and then knuckling of hind legs was noted the next day on a walk. He was admitted to uc Davis had a Mri. Showed no disc herniations so they did 2 spinal taps. Mri was Non contrast enhancing. Spinal taps were unremarkable small amounts of protein. All the info I have read is based on GME of the brain. I’m just wondering how you would treat a dog like this. He’s currently on 20mg of prednisone 10mg 2x a day. I would just love you take on this disease. Thanks again for all your wonderful videos 💛
Usually GME has abnormal spinal tap. Many times we use terms like GME, MUE, MUO, encephalitis and meningitis interchangeably. Here is a recent video we did on the topic (Dr. Webb uses the term MUO). ua-cam.com/video/d6lgBppYrUE/v-deo.html
Hi! My dog is unable to drink water, he keeps on moving his tongue in water for like 15-20 minutes. But the water level remains same, and he is also not eating. So please tell me what can be the problem and it’s solution. Waiting for your reply 🙏🏼
@@SEVNeurology he can close his mouth, I have got his blood report and his platelets count is 50k which is very low as I have told , he is not eating much and just looking for water, no matter where it is. In his bowl or on the floor. Plz tell me, what I should do .. he is very low 😔
My American bully recently had facial paralysis of 1 side of his face, it got immediately chalked up to ear infections that he’s had over the years. Walk out with bunch of drugs and thinking we got taken care of, it fixed nothing. 2-3wks later the 1 working side quit working. Then we got thinking the 1st vet never even bothered to do bloods, so now we got in again for blood work to hopefully get and answer, even if that answer isn’t an answer.
Similar situation here. The diagnosis was originally idiopathic vestibular disease but was treated for otitis media with Zeniquin for 3 weeks. I can't afford an MRI at the veterinary neurologist, unfortunately. What was your outcome?
@@cepellet wow, I’m glad you responded. I would say a month or so ago he was able to 80% close his eyes and his face did come back, not completely, but previous to that….We went to another vet and put him on a hard steroid and antibiotic for a month (in case it was tumor on brain) the steroid hit him like a brick wall so we had to come off early, pretty much wrote him off. Hes about 10 so I was preparing to put him down. I felt so terrible. He is having an issue with a yellow like mucas substance pushing out of his eye and his one nostril is dry. We are flushing his eyes and got stuff for it hoping it’s part of journey back to full health (if not all the way enough of it for him to be happy and comfortable). It’s defiantly not easy thing to go through. I had phone number dialed multiple times to pull the pin at his age, but I kept holding off saying he’s going to figure it out. However seeing as my last comment was 4 months ago, I would give it about that and if you don’t see anything come back after 3 months I would say it’s not coming back. I love my dog to death, we’ve been through a ton, but I refuse to dump piles of money. I’ve had half the vets I’ve taken him to through my travels tell me he’s got heart murmur and we need to spend $5,000 to do all these tests. I draw the line beyond routine shots and health stuff, but that’s me. You can spend your $ however you want and it’s no one’s business.
