    To be honest, I always figured that spino would've had a paddle like tail even before the actual discovery,since a paddle like tail makes A LOT more sense than just an average therapod tail for a semi aquatic animal,but as always, great video!

    What is with spinosaurids and their remains being destroyed all the time? First Spinosaurus gets bombed, now Oxalaia gets burned to ashes? These dinosaurs just can’t catch a break can they?

      L Gaines Well, to be fair, the Spinosaurus specimen was NOT the target of that bombing, the Nazi Party Headquarters was.

      @@kevinnorwood8782 kinda like the two, the goal of the allies was to destroy the Nazi headquarters and German industries, but also to destroy the German cities, more for revenge, mainly the British bomber divisions, to avenge the bombings of British cities.

    I love this 2020 edition of the Spinosaurus,and it's only 10:15 minutes,and this is amazing(too bad that Oxalaia,and Sigilmassasaurus aren't excatly their own separated speices,we'll at least Oxalaia.

    I also don't think oxalia and spinosaurus are the same. It's more likely that oxalia is a sister taxon of spinosaurus like giraffatitan is a sister taxon of Brachiosaurus

      @xanderbecker3017 3 роки тому +2

      Nah man they are the same. I mean I liked oxalaia but the conditions aren't the same girafititan. Its sad they are gone but cool we have more spino bones, also is more likely a genus of spino instead a sister taxon.

    • @altithoraxperotorum5133

      @@xanderbecker3017 giraffatitan is now widely accepted as it's own genus. If an animal has a relative on another continent they still wouldn't be synonym since they would have evolved differently due to their individual isolation. Also i think its too soon to accept oxalia as a spino synonym but since oxalias only remains were destroyed so until more remains are found we shouldn't make them synonyms

    More news:
    1. Ibrahim made comment on the mass on Spinosaurus, and far larger than previously expected. "It was probably much heavier. We now have better tools to estimate the weight (e.g., a more accurate digital model). More like 10-12 metric tons. We are likely underestimating the weight of many dinosaurs, by the way."
    (www.reddit.com/r/Paleontology/comments/i1dbh9/hi_i_am_dr_nizar_ibrahim_a_paleontologist_and/?)
    2021 update: He still asserts that Spinosaurus was 15 meters long and over 10 tonnes in an interview on UA-cam.
    2. Undescribed Spinosaurus arm fossils acquired by Dinolabs inc. The fingers are supported by Russell (1996). Plus, Philip Currie apparently looked over the bones and determined it's not a chimera. However, take that statement with a grain of salt, for I can't verify it.
    (mobile.twitter.com/KathrynAbbott_/status/1287095273760518144)
    2021 edit: Turns out this arm was a hoax (I'm not surprised), just a composite from a Moroccan trader.
    3. Finally, Ostafrikasaurus might not be a spinosaurid, but instead a ceratosaur.

    • @Deform-2024
      @Deform-2024 4 роки тому +4

      @Boi! Possibly. The 10 tonne mass follows isometric scaling of the neotype supplementary data from the 2020 paper on the tail. I have no clue how Ibrahim estimated 12 tonnes.

      @@tnb4509 yeah, I know, did say that this is unlikely, i mean there could still be something out there waiting to be uncovered, but i don't really fell like this would even be called a T-rex if something this big would be uncovered, it's like twice as big as the usual 8 tonnes (most of the books i had stated T-rex at around this size). Wikipedia isn't really that good of a source when it comes to dinosaurs, i've checked and the upper estimate is 14 tonnes but it used to be 18 tonnes like a year ago, 14 tonnes is still too much, someone should really change this to 9 tonnes which we now commonly use.
