Agreed on professional detailing. As for the seats and such there's a lot of smaller textile companies in towns and regions that do such work. Though it's very hard to find what you're looking for upper end things like a lexus. I've seen it done though.

Stumbled onto this channel and I'm impressed how you don't cut away or hide the processes. No annoying background music or cutting to the finished product. It's a relief!
As for the interior, getting the leather covers is one thing. But the foam and cushioning pieces will also need some taking care of. I think you should lean in getting mint used pieces. Of course, if those start to get wildly overpriced, you'll have no alternative than to go with the new covers only. If you do go that route, here's hoping the cushioning pieces are in decent shape.
As for detailing, I think you have your hands full as it is with the mechnical side. Detailing is a whole other ball of wax. I would say send it out to get it detailed.

This has to be one of the luckiest cars out there, not only did it make it to 600k miles after all that it found a home with the one man in the world that will put all OEM part back on it and fix it to perfection.
I would say get used OEM seats and any panels that might be beyond repair, then do a complete interior detail to bring it back to like new and when the car becomes a 1-million-mile car you should do the custom interior with all the materials you want.

    • @MagicBrownMan
      @MagicBrownMan Рік тому

@@stormforge68 Ya you can get parts from low milage cars for less than 1/4 of the price of new, that is even if you can get the part new from OEM. Interior panels are really hard to come by because they are either on back order until the manufacture makes a batch or only have one or 2 in the whole country. (I struggled to find OEM trim for a 10-year-old Toyota)
If you want new your closest option is reupholstering which would not be OEM. And at that point you also want to re bolster the seats too and that bring up the price higher than get used OEM. Also, if anything were to wear prematurely AMD can show us how to fix it so that would be a bonus to anyone who is also trying to take their own car to higher milage. While I see his OCD on restoring the car, I would like him to take the car to a million miles before going all out on the car and doing unrealistic fixes.

As far as the detailing goes, having worked as a professional detailer in my earlier years, it takes a lot of time and dedication to do a thorough job. If you don't have the time for it, it would be worthwhile having it done processionally, especially if you're looking at other things like paint correction. Hello from Romania! I look at you with great interest and I can't wait for this episode. You are my style of mechanic who doesn't make fun of the customer or the car (unfortunately, we lack such specialists here). From my point of view, definitely go with the deep interior detailing and change the upholstery of the seats if they can no longer be saved. Otherwise, I'm looking forward to the next episode. All the best, I salute you with respect.

This is what’s great about having thousands of followers and views. On your free time you still get to do what you love, and although nobody is paying you for getting their car fixed (on the contrary, you’re paying for parts), you’re still building a solid ride for yourself and having a good time. Those views and likes should also generate some revenue to help compensate the incurred expense. That’s what you call “win-win” 😊

First let me say that I love your channel!! It is so refreshing to be able to watch automotive content without all of the off color comments and horrendous language. You are very much a craftsman and a gentleman! As for the car, my opinion would be to get the new upholstery but maybe try detailing it yourself. That is something that I have been watching videos to learn how to do. You might find that you would enjoy the process. Thank you for the detail and professionalism that you put into your content. God Bless!!

If you do the detailing yourself, one thing to watch out for is to not clean stains in the interior with a steamer until you have removed as much of it as possible with very light amount of liquid along with agitation, otherwise you will simply spread the stain bigger. Another thing to watch out for is you do not want to get the insulation on the underside of the hood soaked if you pressure wash the engine bay, as it will fall apart. Pretty much everything else is just a matter of effort, even if you do not pick the best cleaning agent for the job. Or, you could collaborate with a nearby detailing UA-camr such as Chicago Auto Pros, and that would also make for an interesting video.

Changed the leather in my LX, it is multi-stepped but very doable and the results are outstanding. Richmond Automotive Upholstery was my vendor. You can imagine there are going to be some surprises when you removed the seats. Love this series and your attention to detail has kept me entertained. Immensely easier than that driver's rear bearing and power steering replacement. Plan on two hours per seat.

As someone who has done the seats in both manners, I would get a clean set of used seats in a heartbeat. The aftermarket leathers are pricey and lots of work to install. I would recommend the replacement. I too had a foul odor vehicle and found that the foam retain most of the odors despite the new leathers over them. Therefore, I would really recommend the OEM used seats. No worries about color match or issues with quality. It is what it is!!

The Car Care Nut/ Mr. AMD, you've helped me and countless others with their Toyota. Thank you so much for that. The best of luck to getting that LS430 to a million miles! You even inspired me to make my own Hawaii based channel (non-vehicle) since you consistently post great content and I always look forward to your videos.
I only have 600 subs, so I'm trying to work harder and harder to earn those subscribers. But the process is enjoyable and my only regret at the moment is I wish I had more time to make more videos. (Still work a 40 hr week and got littles to look afterwards) I also am saving money for a good camera and computer so I can make better quality videos. (I dont own a computer)
May the Good Lord Bless you and Keep you, and you have yourself a Wonderful Day!

If you can't get OEM seats, i definitely like the option of having a professional company make you leather for your seats that you can replace yourself.
Also, absolutely yes for giving it to a professional detailer to have it fully detailed. Also a ceramic coating is a must, which i would think should be an option the detailer should do as well.

Hi Ahmed,Its nice to have you on another video of the restauration series, about your asking on witch way to go respect those seats., I have done it a few times and it comes all down to the financial aspect of the issue, Here in Venezuela it is very difficult to get things done properly but I had the seats redone completely with new Colombian hides by a very competent craftsman and it costed about half the price of new OEM seats for an 1999 Corolla an also an 1998 LS 400.I was very pleased with the work and so was my client, so my advise would be : do it that way since used seats tend to be brittle on the hides unless they were very well maintained and that is a risk you have to evaluate by seeing and actually feeling the leather. Have a nice day and keep up the extraordinary work.Thank you so much.

As someone else noted, the family name is Toyoda. The way I heard the story is that someone in marketing thought Toyota was easier for english speakers to deal with. If all of the mechanics, electrics and frame of the seats are in good shape, I would definitely look at getting new leather covers. I really enjoy your videos. I say leave the detailing to the professionals. They will do it properly and take that burden away from you. The end result will be something that will speak for itself every time you drive it.
Also I say go with custom replacement upholstery for the inside. It would be interesting to see a professional who does this for a living. Maybe to see their expertise and tricks of the trade.
