600,000 Mile Lexus Restoration I Got REALLY Carried Away This Time! Part 4

- I continue our mission of restoring our 600,000 mile Lexus LS430 to the pursuit of perfection that birthed this car and this time I REALLY Got carried away.
If you've missed the first parts of this series, find it in the link below
PART 1 • I Bought a 600,000 Mil...
PART 2 • Fixing EVERY THING Wro...
PART 3 • Making The 600,000 Mil...
We start by finishing the last thing that's wrong with the suspension from the last episode which is the front upper control arms.
Then we were supposed to just install the radiator and install the heater valve but I couldn't just let it go like that so we basically replaced everything rotating with the timing belt and the drive belt except the AC Compressor. Cleaned everything and got the car running again.
The brand new power steering system is bled and running as well!

Almost embarrassing how much I look forward to each installment of this fantastic project you are doing on this LS. This is one VERY lucky Lexus to now be in your skilled care my friend!
I find myself looking online for a good LS, would be a great dd.😅
@@RLewis-yz4yd I'm sitting looking at this guy thinking make me an offer on my white 2006 LS430, sub 100K, that doesnt lose a drop of anything, New Lexus rotors all the way around, thinking pay me a lot and you ciuld have saved a bundle, but honestly doubt I would sell.
No seriously! At the end I was just like 'Man I'm excited about this Lexus!' 😂
@@prism8289 I wouldn’t (sell) at this point if I was you.
I’ve got a 39K mile 1990 LS400 parked in the driveway since the pandemic, I guess it’s rotting by this master mechanics definition. All the fluids need changing, and the PS is heavy. Who know what else it needs in maintenance needs, new tires for sure. The engine and trans drove PERFECT last time I drove it. I did change the battery, bare handed, didn’t get a speck of dirt on my hands, that’s how clean the engine compartment is after 33 years. So…suffice to say, I am glued to these videos. I’m not doing any of the work, bad back, but I’m getting motivated to tow it to a highly rated mechanic after watching these video’s Thanks so much! This person has a great demeanor. Very entertaining to watch,
that car is going to drive like a dream on your trip.
How do you know that?
@Metaobserver u stupid ? Lol
@@Metaobserver Because AMD is working on it.
I wish we would have gotten the struts in time for the trip. It would’ve been even better. They’re en route and they’re getting replaced as well.
@Kiss my SilverAss ice cleaning as in dry ice? 😮
All of us watch you because of your knowledge and hard work. This entire video is exactly that, but from 57:00 onward it takes it up a level. A masterclass in teaching. That power steering fluid bit was incredible.
And all of us cringing when he mentions hack mechanics. He must have had an awesome mentor; does he ever mention that? I may have missed it.
@@johngreydanus2033 I specifically recall him talking about a mentor and learning from people when he started working, but i cant for the life of me remember what video he mentioned it in. After all, he has so many videos
I have no clue how you do it…all the repair work, the filming, the editing, uploading, and still find time for family, meals and sleep 😂😂😂. That said, thank you sooo much for taking us along! 👍👍
Can you imagine having someone with this much experience and knowledge about these cars working on your car? What a privilege that would be! 🏆
I know right. How many Toyota dealers have MASTER techs on their payroll??? I venture to guess NOT many.
@@klwthe3rd Heck, the railroads, in USA, got rid of their Master Mechanics 40 yrs ago. In Glendive MT BNSF Depot the Master Mechanic's office is now a bathroom with the old door still labeled.
yeah, I'm going to buy a Lexus or Toyota just to drive 8 hours to get this guy to do the work. great work, AMD
He's absolutely the only guy who I would trust to work on my car, and I will sleep well at night ☺☺👍👍👍👍
I agree.
Crazy how we now applaud work ethics that were once expected from everyone.
Tell me why a woman such as myself, who is not the least bit mechanically inclined, finds your videos absolutely fascinating? I am mesmerized by your videos and watch them till the end. If nothing else, I learn little things here and there. I'm much more informed now when I take my Lexus and Toyota for routine maintenance
You rock girl!
GOOD FOR YOU! I tried to teach my ex & she could care less!. 😉
Attention to detail ❤
It’s always good to see someone working who likes what they do.
Do you need a husband to take care of your ride?
You can tell a lot about a person’s character by the way they react to stressful situations. Every time you come across a challenging issue or something that would stress most people out, you handle it with a lot of grace. You have a great demeanor. That says a lot about your character.
CCN: loses sleep over timing belts.
Car enthusiasts all over the world: I understand! 😂
Car enthusiasts are one of a kind 😂
Looking back on it, timing belts really weren’t a good idea for the average consumer. Expensive to maintain compared to a timing chain and if that belt snapped, you’d need a new engine if it were an interference engine.
I’ve been there too!
@@planefan5812 I much prefer a timing belt I can easily maintain rather than a timing chain that will eventually start leaking oil through the timing cover, or stretching the chain around 150K. It's much less expensive to do a timing belt over a timing chain job on most cars. Even Toyotas have had issues with variable valve timing timing chain gears.
@@TheCarCareNut You are the premier Toyota/Lexus guru of the USA. Nobody knows these cars better than you.
After you are done with this project you should take it to a Lexus dealership to request a post purchase inspection to see what they say. It would make interesting content.
Good idea 😃
lol they would tell him the rack is leaking and he needs new brakes.
They would probably come up with a long list of things that are "worn out" and needs immediate replacement. Especially if they don't know who's car it is. They'll look at the odometer, and condemn half the car 😅😅😅
@@labourlawact7826 I've been to countless Lexus and Toyota dealerships. They have all been honest about what my vehicles need. They do charge a fortune though. I only have them do oil changes. I do my own mechanical work.
@@MrMaxggangster Why not do the oil changes yourself as well? ☺
Here in South Africa, our family have been badly ripped off by Toyota dealers.
AMD, Congratulations on reaching the 700,000 SUBSCRIBER mark. 👏👏👏👏We can see that landmark coincides with the arrival of Lexus LS 430 Parts Cart # 2 🤩🤩
I’m glad this project keeps coming together and you showing how much labor is involved.
I myself will never do a timing belt replacement or replace an upper control arm. Yet, I find this series mesmerizing. It is fascinating to watch a competent Master Mechanic at work. What also is impressive is the cleanliness and organization of your shop. Most shops have the dirt and disorganization of an automobile junkyard. Your professionalism truly is outstanding.
This has become one of my favourite restoration series.
By the time you’re done, this bad boy will be ready for 1Million miles! Tank of a car! Pretty awesome that Japanese companies still provide their OEM parts 20+ years later.. 👏🏻👏🏻
As much as he is replacing parts, it is practically a new car.
Took that many years and miles to finally need replacement parts
i am an original owner of a 2006 Ls430 with 620,000 miles on it. My vehicle was dealer maintenanced until 5 years ago and then I began to do the maintenance myself. i have experienced 1st hand much of the challenges you have shown in your videos. I absolutely love this car. i have an original motor and transmission. I did have a problem with my transmission with hard downshift bangs, but i was able to have it fixed by replacing the valve body with the trans in the car and having the computer sent out to be resoldered. Oil has been changed every 5000 miles. My biggest mistake with the car was letting the dealership convince me that the transmission fluid was lifetime and never need to be replaced . At about 580,000 the trans started to have hard downshifts and slipping noise. i drained the trans fluid and then ran the car 6 times over a week since you only drain 2.75 quarts at a time. I then drop the pan changed the filter and refilled the system. The slipping screaching went away but the hard down shift was still there. When i had the valve body replaced we were able to add 8.5 quarts of toyota trans fluid.
i am amazed with what you are doing with your 2005 ls430 and enjoy your episodes immensely.
I'm really enjoying watching this rebuild. My grandfather was a mechanic for over 50 years, and I never really understood what that looked like. You're making that possible.
Respect your elders
Cars were not so advanced then but neither were the tools to repair them. A simpler time but more things went wrong or broke more frequently. Before the over complication of cars were dealerships and manufacturers created a need that only they could repair their cars were the best times.
This guy's the calmest mechanic I've ever seen! Most guys working on their cars are cussing up a storm mad as a hornet with busted knuckles 😂 and he's just like ahh beautiful stock hoses and clamps. Love it!
Cant wait to watch this. Thank you AMD for the quick uploads regarding this Lexus Ls.
Just replaced my broken axle beam in my 289,000 mile Yaris..
I pulled a clean one at the scrap yard and installed.
They let me take the whole assembly, drum to drum, plus original clean springs and shocks.
I have $75 in the entire job.
I don't have enough words in my vocabulary to express how good you are at your job/vocation.
Wow you’ve done SO much very quickly!! Your work ethic reminds of something my Dad always said, “If you’re going to do something, do it right!!” I also clean inside the engine bay with Simple Green…it smells so good!!
I'm always impressed by how well you keep your composure. I can rip off 100 expletives and throw 30 parts just changing the wiper blades! 🤣
It is a pleasure and totally satisfying watching a TRUE Master Technician work on cars. Doing it correctly doesn't take much more time and money, it just makes so much sense to do it right. Looking forward to seeing more fantastic videos.
Finally; the love, care, and content the LS430 deserves. This is Lexus; the endless pursuit of perfection. We all thank you for this.
The Michelin Cross Climate 2s are very quiet tires! You can try them for 90 days, and return them if you're not satisfied with their noise levels.
I agree. That's what we have in our 2009 RAV4.
This 430 and the LS 460 both cars design aged so well , they still look modern and classy to this day. 👍
I contend the LS400 at least the 90-94 has aged very well. Still looks classy imo.
@@f2john Agreed
As the new parts are installed, I see the value of this vehicle increasing. When you replace a lot of parts on a vehicle, there is a certain satisfaction knowing the vehicle will operate much better, even if the "seat of the pants" feeling doesn't change much. When I had completed certain repairs on my wife's car, she and her brother noticed a difference in how the vehicle ran and handled at that point. They let me know how much better it operated. In this business, you don't always hear that from the customer or in my case, the owner, but you do appreciate it. That's something I rarely experienced when I worked in the City Fleet Section before retirement. GOOD ONE AMD! I know this vehicle will be your "pride and joy" for many years to come once you are done. On to the next video. I'm playing catch up to all you've completed so far.
You are doing this car a disservice for planning on driving in the winter
Watching AMD absolutely love on this car is so satisfying...
You are the Bob Ross of auto mechanics.
I have a LS430 CL with 232k miles. Original engine, transmission ( never changed fluid 😅), starter (intake manifold was never touched) , compressor, alternator
. Only changes happened to upper & lower control arms, One shock absorber, timing belt & radiator "3 times for both" , engine mounts and brakes. All suction doors still works and the adaptive cruise control... etc
I happen to be living in the United Arab Emirates
The timing belt part is particularly valuable to me cuz I'll be doing the belt on my GS430 in the future. Thank you.
One of the most exciting series ive ever seen and its one that makes me feel very happy because the car gets what it deserves. I miss my corolla altis 2009 now
You have made this extremely hard and sophisticated Lexus job, so easy and so interesting, you now have invited lots of people to be Mechanics and you certainly made brought me in love with these wonderful Japanese machines, well done to you
The only thing I watch on TV no doubt! Owner of a 2002 4cyl Camry w/303,000 miles a 2014 Tundra 1794 with 65,000 miles and a 2022 V6 Highlander Platinum! Toyota lifer!! Thanks for your fantastic video segments!
Thank you for the silicone spray trick in the hoses. It will make my life easier going forward!
Nothing better than spending my Saturday afternoon watching TCCN videos. 😊
Part 4 this quick??? Awesome!!!
What a testament to the build quality of Toyota products! Here is a MASTER technician whose work ethic is at the top tier of all Master technicians. He attends to every detail. Let us wish him every success he deserves! May our dear Lord continue to bless him and his family!
I'm watching many other car related youtube channels, but I've never seen any guy who works with so much love and dedication on cars like AMD. Thumbs up, it's stunning!
You would make the best auto shop teacher in the world. 😊
I can’t wait for this car to be fully sorted. You sir are a master at your craft. I am really enjoying this series and the car. Keep up the great work!
First of all Id like to thank you for your integrity and honesty as a mechanic, I wish all people had your outlook on business. I've enjoyed watching your videos they are very informative. Thanks again for your high level of enthusiasm and knowledge...
I like your attitude toward the water pump sealant: "that's annoying, but let's get do it". An attitude more people should have about more things.
The attention to detail is so nice to see, like an artist bringing an object to life. Love the series
TCCN is an example how honesty and integrity is the most sustainable way to grow a business - and be successful fir a long time.
I'm from the Netherlands,i work in a truck manufacturing company,i find this video very helpful
This is gonna end up being more reliable than any new car
My wife and I both own 2011 Toyotas. An Avalon and a Corolla. A mechanic told me these are better cars than the new ones. Let's hope so.
I love it! I love how aggressively you are getting everything in order… and yes… I would love a total Talley of the cost to do all this work…. Congrats on another excellent video! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!
whatever the tally of the work he does, multiply it by a factor of four in my area.. and they use whatever shit parts and give you 30 day warranty on the job.
@@mikem4432 *Pity, that. Judging from his many videos I presume Ahmed's burdened shop rate is somewhere between $100 and $125/hour. Pretty normal for Chicagoland where he is, Miami, LA, SF, Dallas, etc. Even The Car Wizard in rural Kansas gets $125/hour. Except when he's charging Tyler Hoover, of course.
A Talley of the costs involved will be a full video on its own when we’re done. Hint: we’re no where near done with this thing 😉
@@mikem4432 Exactly!
@@blackrifle6736 Hoover is an idiot honestly! Nothing like this content.
Nice patient work. I love patient mechanics, they fix things. Hot tempered "efficient" mechanics destroy more than they fix. Great job
I have been loving this series. I was fortunate to have just bought a 2006 LS 430 from a gentleman who was 102 years old (finally thought it was time to stop driving even though he can still pass his driving test)! It has less than 48,000 miles on it and is in fantastic condition. I mean, he changed the timing belt at 45,000 miles 3 years ago just because it was getting old and didn't want to chance anything. Looking forward to maintaining it for many years to come! It is by far the smoothest and most comfortable car I have ever driven. Thanks for your content and looking forward to the rest of the series! God bless!
Great watching an extremely knowledgeable person do work like this. Scary to think of how much can be done wrong when you take a vehicle for service to people who are not properly trained or have any level of self pride in the work they turn out. Thank for these videos and knowledge, hopefully this will make someone a better auto technician.
Your attention to detail is amazing. Goes to show how mechanics not familiar with Lexus could get it wrong. That would have caused issues later on.
1. editing was dope. 2. you must be a fun guy in the shop, very relatable mix of confidence frustration and thinking out loud. 3. Youthful glee this many years into doing a job, is a lucky place to be. Thanks so much for the info and confidence taking care of my 06 taco
Pure bliss watching your wisdom and knowledge.
I love the narration and maintenance steps. Your knowledge of every part of the any Toyota amazes me. It's like watching a surgeon operating on a body describing every detail. Very educational!
Dear Sir, I have been consuming automotive-related content for a long time now, and you Sir are outperforming everything I have seen so far. Well done and a big thank you!
Yeah... Scotty Killer is like a kindergarten student compared to AMD, the professor.
Inspirational slow and steady and expert knowledge. Poetry in motion watching you work.
My wife started laughing when you said pursuit of perfection. I just received all new exterior molding, Side mirror housings. I cracked the passenger side mirror parking it. A new center console skin, Cup holders, speakers, overhead map lights entire unit. New floor mats from Lexus. That doesn't even scratch the surface. I had a cabinet full of parts i hadn't installed and every few days another package would arrive. I have caught up. I've installed all of the interior parts. I am going to order lower driver and passenger seat skins. $504. I absolutely plan on keeping my LS for the duration. I have 2015 Acura RDX and planned on splitting up the mileage between the two. But the RDX just sits a lot. Because when given a choice I'm in the LS.
Love these videos , keep them coming. Tell the wifey you followers prefer this content and you are allowed to purchase all the fixer uppers you want.
Not just ANY fixer uppers!!! I want to see a LS 400 go through this transformation. I know everyone loves the LS 430 but the LS 400 was always the flagship to me.
This series, which is great, reminds me of my grandfather's axe: my father replaced the blade and I replaced the handle but it's my grandfather's axe.
More fully invested in this series than I was in breaking bad.
Glad to hear that you have decided to replace the timing belt. Wise decision!
Especially on an interference engine. I blew my timing belt on an '86 Camry decades ago. The car only had 28,000 miles on it, but was 8 years old and dry rotted. Fortunately it was a long stroke non interference engine, so everything was fine after I got towed.
As long as you're in there...... :)
Love looking over your shoulder. I am not mechanically inclined. I'm just a novice and know only the basics. Watching you meticulously describe every bit and aspect of repairing, you sir are as important as a good doctor. Without a doubt, a Master Mechanic that everybody would love to have work on their car. I appreciate your channel and became fascinated after subscribing and watching you do your magic. Thank you, Sir.
I have a real problem i can't stop watching this channel. And now i want an LS again
This is a good series of videos. Have a safe trip! 😊
Awesome work AMD, you're doing really tough tasks!
As a current owner of a ‘07 Lexus IS250 with 208K, I am really enjoying your build. I have watched your other videos and enjoy all your content. Thanks! I wish you were in FL to take a look.
I have watched this satisfactory video completely as all your video always motivates me to take care of my cars and motorcycle as per the schedule with genuine parts. Thank you.

My exact same car. 370,000 miles original engine and transmission. On its 3 timing belt pulleys serpentine belt spark plugs waterpump thermostat every 100,000 miles.
Thank you Ahmed for this video! I've learned so much about how to work on my LS from watching these videos. A massive reduction to the learning curve and keeps me out of hacksville for the most part! Sent you a donation as a small thank you!
I've replaced a few of these timing belts on this type of engine and it is pretty simple, but watching someone else do it, is oddly satisfying 😁
What a beautiful sound when the Lexus fired up, super quiet very smooth and sounded awesome to my ears, TY Sir loved the longer video and enjoyed seeing all OEM or near to going on instead of the aftermarket or worn out OEM parts. Looking forward to the next installment and totally loving seeing the beast come back to as it should have been, she may have age but she has eternal beauty.

This LS series if by far my favorite on the channel. It's so nice to see this car put back to it's original condition like the day it left the factory. When this car is all done, it's going to be a super super nice LS 430. Anyone would be envious to own this car.
Great job! Any good place to buy OEM clips?
Honestly dealership. They’re not expensive at all
Did you fully clean both sides of that gunked up throttle body Ahmed?
We’re gonna remove it and clean it properly when we do the starter
Love how all these new oem skinny parts are put on this Lexus. It's looking better every time.
You sir AMD are truly a toyota master mechanic. Every nook and cranny you knew how to fix, rewire and/or clean up. Your channel is going to start blowing up like scotty kilmer's channel. I drive a 2021 toyota camry for lyft and put a ton of miles on the vehicle and how you instruct ppl to take care of their toyota's to last over 300k miles is what we need. Thank you for your service!
Note to self: never buy a high mileage car unless you are a mechanic
I am not a mechanic and I bought a rust free 2007 Tundra for cheap almost 6 years ago when it had 270,000 miles and no service records. I brought all of the service & maintenance up to speed with the help of my local Toyota dealer's service department , and I am about to hit 312,000 miles. The truck is a pleasure to drive, and even though I don't drive that many miles each year - it is certainly ready to go the distance.

I bought my 2006 LS 430 in Dec 2021 on E-bay. With 99 miles. 1 owner. I flew to Fort Lauderdale to pick it up. I have done thousands of dollars in maintenance. The only unexpected repair was the starter at 115k i am at 138k now and its everything i want in a car. O just drove it from New Orleans to Vernon Hills IL to visit my mom. She thought it was a brand new car.
