    A little tip.
    When you install the top of the hammer strut into the gun, if the hammer moves slightly forward when pushing up on the strut you know you have it in the correct position. You can actually see that in the video .

    I put E2 grips on my P220 with the old trigger bar spring like you show here. The gun dry fired multiple times, every thing worked. Went to the range fired (5 )230 gr round nose rounds and lost the trigger. Disassembled the E2 grips and found a broken trigger bar spring. I have ordered the new style trigger bar spring. You must clear up this point on the video. Thanks.

    I know you put the video out quite sometime ago hopefully you’ll still see this. I just picked up a pre-ban P220 mint everything is stock. Whoever owned it really did not shoot it very lucky with this one. Looking at getting those Grips or packmyers . I have large hands the fatter the grip the better . I believe a buddy of mine has these on his 226 just not 100% sure. If so I’d say they’re perfect. Would you say they definitely add some definition to the grips. The stock ones are definitely thin. Thanks Jer

    Great video Thank you. I did seem to have a problem with the decocker tried the one that came with the e2 grip. The install was on a P229r. I'm sure I put the SRT on at one time. Tried several times and the new decocker lever just would not decock the hammer. I put the decocker I took off of the gun back on and all was good. I really couldn't see the difference and I possibly put the decocker if one came with the SRT kit. Like the feel of the e2 grip helping me with reaching the trigger in DA which is what I use for my first shot.

    I have a Sig Sauer P227 with the E-2 Grips. I think they are too Round and Bulky and would like the Grips to be Flatter like the P220 Grips (or like a S&W Model 4506-1). Is it possible to change out the E-2 Grips and convert back to older style grips such as those from older P226 pistols or something like that?

  • @CJm6A79

    Great vid! SO- I bought a MK25 (P226 Navy) about 3 years ago and I just did the E2 Grip install. Upon doing the install I saw that I have the new mainspring seat already and the new hammer strut as well. You mentioned the new decocking lever and for some reason the kit I just bought from Top Gun Supply did NOT have this new de-cocker. I also noticed that there is a gap on both sides. NOT a very flush fit. I've reseated a few times to make sure it's going on right but I'm not getting a flush fit. I did just switch the mag catch to the other side which could account for SOME room. I like the feel ergonomically, but I'm not really happy w/the fit. And the fact I didn't need those other 2 parts.

    • @SteveJenkins
      @SteveJenkins  9 років тому

      Thanks for watching, CJm6A79! The deckocker only seems to come with kits for the P220, so that's why you didn't get one with the P226 grip kit. THere was no change on the P226 decocker as far as I know, and you wouldn't want to swap it anyway - the MK25 decocker is specially coated. I've heard reports of the E2 grips fitting problem, and it seems to be hit or miss. Sorry yours was a miss. :( But save those parts for when you buy a classic Sig. :)

  • @hansvonmannschaft9062
    @hansvonmannschaft9062 8 років тому

    I recently got my P220 E2 kit, along with the SRT kit, the spare decocker on the E2 is different. But I had watched this video before doing this so I went to the Sig webpage and yep... apparently, E2 kits no longer come with the same extra decocker the SRT kit does, you can even see it in the webpage pictures. :-(
    ...I really wanted that extra decocker for my p229... bummer...

    • @SteveJenkins

      @hansvonmannschaft9062 8 років тому

      Indeed! Btw, edited the original message 'cause I noticed it could be misuderstood. It's obvious that at some point, at least at the time you did this video, E2 kits brought that decocker, and now no longer do, didn't want people who read my OP to think I was ranting or something, just as a heads up... so Steve, you and everyone else who purchased a kit last year... all of you, lucky bastards! hahahha!! May you all have a great day! (excepting the exec at Sig that decided to switch decockers on the E2 kit hahahha!!)
      Cheers!

    I just found your video. I'm trying to install the E2 on, I guess a much older W.German P226. The hammer "foot" doesn't look like any of the newer plastic ones, but is an inverted "L" shaped metal wedged into the bottom recess. There's no simple way of pushing the metal foot to unseat it. Have you seen a set up like this?

    • @SteveJenkins
      @SteveJenkins  7 років тому

      Hi @TMaculENT1. You can totally use the hammer spring and strut you already have. Standard grips will fit both types of spring/strut combos, while the E2 grip requires the E2 spring/strut. In fact, the P226 Legion has the E2 spring/strug, even though it has "standard" G10 Hogue grips.

    will these grips work with the mk25 226?

  • @hansvonmannschaft9062
    @hansvonmannschaft9062 8 років тому

    Hey again Steve, decided to begin working on my 1991 German P220, and got three questions, if you don't mind.
    1) I've read in some random forum that in order to install the E2 grips, not only I'd need to get a new mainspring, like you mentioned, but I'd also have to get a new trigger bar spring, a coiled one like those the p226 and friends come with. But I just saw this video and noticed you still got the typical P220 arched trigger bar spring. So, is there really any need?
    2) Despite it being a 25 y/o gun, only the slide and magazines show signs of wear, along with the visible part of the barrel (chamber top), all of which could be fixed by simply reblueing them by using, for example, Birchwood-Casey's product. The question is: Would you do it, or would you leave them as it is?
    Thanks a ton in advance! And now... onwards to get the right factory-specs mainspring... wish me luck! :-)

    • @drewbrandt9320
      @drewbrandt9320 7 років тому

      Hans Von Mannschaft any luck on the first question? I was wondering if I need to get the coiled trigger bar spring also.. I have the traditional trigger bar spring like in this video.. did you get an answer

    • @hansvonmannschaft9062
      @hansvonmannschaft9062 7 років тому

      Hey there! After doing the deepest research I could, watched every video I found and forum I came across, the answer seemed to be quite clear: There's *not* a coiled spring for the P220, nor was it ever made, or is it advisable at all to use a coiled spring on this model. But I even got some more info you might be interested about :-)
      - I went ahead and replaced, with original Sig items, in order to have a fully operational 1991 German p220 w/E2 grips, the following parts:
      * Trigger Bar (probably the most expensive item at around $45, but hey! - It's made in Germany! haha). *It has small but noticeable differences with the orginal one*, also German obviously, it came with.
      * Trigger Bar Spring - Just put a new "L" shaped one. Just in case. To be honest, looked exactly like the one it came with... 26-ish years ago. All springs are made in the USA and not costly.
      * Mentioning this one just so you can have sort of a "shopping list reference" when considering how much I spent and if you need to do so as well or (hopefully) not: The E2 grip set. Yes, it's also somewhere around $45 iirc.
      * New Mainspring, needed for the new E2 grip shorter hammer strut.
      * A new Hammer!!! Wow, why this one? Well, because pre-1994 P220's didn't come with a Hammer Return Spring, and I wanted mine to have that passive, unobstrusive, safety feature. The original Hammer, albeit cool-looking with its spur shape, did not have at its base the notch needed to house the needed spring.
      * A Hammer Return Spring! Of course! haha... needed for the above mentioned point.
      * A new Hammer Seat. This part is that little plastic, trapezoidal-shaped thingie, that's right behind the Hammer on all Sigs. Super easy to replace, and this is where the Hammer Return Spring will be seated inside. and held in place by the same pin that holds said Seat, too.
      And this would be it. CAREFUL IF WANTING TO REPLACE THE TRIGGER - IT ISN'T NEEDED AND NEW P220 TRIGGERS ARE WIDER THAN OLD GERMAN ONES AND THUS WILL NOT FIT! (Learn from my mistake m'friend)
      Hope this helped! Feel free to ask about any other thing. In order to do this I not only had to end up detail stripping the gun, but also reading and learning so much about it that it'd be a pleasure to spare a fellow Sig user from such an expenditure of otherwise valuable time - must admit though, I did enjoy the journey haha :-) Cheers and may you have a great day!

    • @drewbrandt9320
      @drewbrandt9320 7 років тому

      Hans Von Mannschaft thanks for the info.. I have a 1996 P220.. are all these changes needed to be able to install the E2 grip? Or did you just do them to update the gun? I bought the new style main spring along with the E2 grip kit.. hoping that's enough to get started.. the next thing I want to do is get the SRT kit...

    • @hansvonmannschaft9062
      @hansvonmannschaft9062 7 років тому +1

      You're welcome Drew!
      I believe most of the ordeal I had to go through in order to have those E2 grips *only applies to pre-1994 German P220's*. Lucky you! :-D
      You might still have, at most, to change the simple Trigger Bar Spring. Even though they look exactly the same, everywhere I read said it still had to be changed... Peace of mind for around $5 sounded ok to me.
      Last but not least, I equipped an SRT kit without any problem or needing to change anything at all, and before all the other stuff. Amazingly gratifying :-) You'll love yours!
      A pleasure to help! Feel free to ask away should you have any other questions. Have a great day!
