There was also Ustad Amir Hussain, Ustad Habibuddin Khan, Ustad Shamsuddin Khan, Khalifa Ustad Wajid Hussain Khan, Ustad Sheikh Dawood, Pandit Kanthe Maharaj, Pandit Anokhelal, Pandit Gudai Maharaj, Pandit Kishan Maharaj, and Ustad Alla Rakha The final two names were crucial in causing a revolution for tabla players in the 20th century... essentially, Khan Sahib Thirakwa popularised solo playing as we know it today, but Pt. Kishan Maharaj ji and Ustad Alla Rakha got the tabla players an equal status as the "main instruments". Maharaj ji took on the organisers at a grass-root level whilst, Alla Rakha ji toured the world extensively; thus solidifying the tabla's presence as a main instrument. These were the popular names.
