- I was recently invited by Norwegian Cruise Line to join them on a press preview cruise of Norwegian Encore. We sailed from Germany to Southampton ahead of her first cruise over to America.
Norwegian Encore is the newest, biggest and most exciting ship from Norwegian Cruise Line. She has go karts, laser tag and lots more to offer.
I really enjoyed my time onboard and liked almost everything about the ship. This was actually my 10th cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line so during the video I talk a little about my experiences with things like dining onboard.

Ive done two cruises on my own since I divorce & became single. I love NCL cause they have programs set for Solo travelers. I love it that you can dine with other Solo travelers & not have dinner alone.

I have people who instead of getting a cabin together book sperate solo cabins... Fun times..
I was on NCL's Encore for one of its first voyages. I loved it. Beautiful and lots of quiet spaces to feel that you were alone and not with thousands of people. What was special is that the Encore has singles only cabins and a large private social area only for those people who are in the singles only Cabins. During the first few nights of the cruise there was an official meet up for people in the singles rooms in that social area where I met people like me, traveling solo. I made friends for the entire week cruise.
Norwegian is my favorite cruise company......relaxed and easygoing .....and the crew are second to none...cannot do enough to help you...fab food as well ....
They definitely need more pool space. The laser tag area should be an additional pool area preferably covered and adult only.
You can put the laser tag area under the go cart track. It would work better inside anyway.
Really do love the observation lounge and the water front.
Agree with you. Older breakaway class ships have a small lounge area in the aft.
i think that the H20 option on some of the other ships. like JOY

You did a good job of explaining what's so special about this ship! I'm glad you started with food as your first topic, too. Like you said, Norwegian does a great job as far as the food goes. When I cruised on Norwegian Bliss, a sister ship to the one you were on, I remember saying that the food was nearly a perfect match to my tastes in food.
One interesting aspect of a Norwegian cruise is that they almost always offer you a choice of perks when you book your cruise. It can be a specialty dining package, a reduced-priced unlimited beverage package, Internet access, shore excursion credits, etc. You take your pick of whichever perk is most beneficial from your perspective. I really like the reduced-priced unlimited beverage package... as it makes Norwegian one of the cheapest ways to go on a cruise and have alcoholic beverages without paying an arm and a leg.

I love how everybody says about the perks but I managed to book next Norwegian cruise without any perks at all!! ha ha. It was very cheap so basically a sail away rate. I think Norwegian are more expensive in Europe than places like the Caribbean...

I was in this ship's inaugural transatlantic sailing. Everything about it was wonderful!
I was on a cruise in the north Atlantic, so the sunning wasn't an issue--there was a lot of weather and not really warm.
We had a lot of social events through the cruise critic group.
I stayed in a solo cabin, and it was wonderful! There is so much to do, that I was only in my cabin to sleep.

I think I would do it for the Go-Kart alone! But you made a great point on the lack of pool space. Just recently, we were on the Symphony of the Seas and it is amazing the fact that you can be outside without feeling too crowded
We just got off the Encore and I loved everything about it except for the deck space. We could never find a place to sit. It was really disappointing. I loved everything about the ship. It will be interesting to see how long they keep the track and laser tag. There were a LOT of complaints from others about not finding a place near the pool or on deck for that matter.
Encore is a very beautiful ship. There is nothing like The Water Front. The Encore and The Bliss feature race track go carts, which is fabulous.

Based on your comments about the pool deck and lack of seating, I am feeling a little better that our trip on The Encore was canceled due to Covid. We were scheduled to cruise in January 2021 in the Caribbean and were disappointed about the cancelation. But I would have been disappointed if it was difficult to get a seat around the pool. The rest of the ship looks amazing!

Emma, I went on the Encore 02/24-03/01 this year and it was the most awesome cruise. Ever. The Encore is unbelievably awesome! The Observation Lounge on the 15th deck was my very favorite, along with Sugarcane, the Mojito bar. Clarence (aka Chocolate Cowboy) the bar tender made the trip so very enjoyable. Having a Starbucks on board was fantastic too! My wife loved the balcony in our cabin and we will definitely have one again.

Doing an Alaska cruise on this ship in June! So excited! This will be my second cruise ever, my first was on the NCL Gem, a much smaller ship. Excited to see whether I like the big ship more or the small ship. Also very excited about the food, NCL has some amazing food!

I'm sailing this on a transatlantic in December, balcony solo, doing my research now. Your videos are very helpful in the how to make the most of it and not spend (too much)money.
I took my daughter on the Norwegian Breakaway shortly after her launch. Loved it, but it was massive! You’ve got me quite intrigued about this new one tho. My daughter, 13 at the time, walked the REAL PLANK out over the ocean (attached to a cable of course). I was so proud of her, but WHAT was I thinking letting her do that!
Great Video! We sail on 11/24/19. Getting more excited every day. I totally agree with you about deck space! We were on the Bliss in March and we could never find a seat, which was very disappointing. I hate to say it but it would have been nice if they policed the lounge chairs and picked up some towels.
Oh yes I would love much stricter rules on pool chair hoggers! They could collect up all the stuff that they remove and give it away at the end of the cruise as a competition prize... ha ha.

My first solo cruise was on NCL Epic 2017. I had a blast!! This boat looks like fun! Now I want to go cruising again! I actually like being at sea so if they offer a cruise to nowhere, I'd be down for that on his boat! Thanks for all the great info! You are a wealth of knowledge!

Norwegian is absolutely killing it with the design game lately. Funny because I associate NCL with freestyle/partying, i.e. not necessarily luxury and modern but they have far exceed my expectations.

6:51 Have been on a clone of that slide of Escape. There isn’t much thrill beyond just going fast and being above the ocean. The way the slide is designed makes it so that the water clogs up your nose.

Great video Emma and amazed how quickly you got it uploaded. I'm sure the Norwegian Encore is the perfect ship for many, particularly children and young people, but I'm afraid it's my worst nightmare. But that's what's great about cruising, there's a ship for everyone!
Hey Angela! Thank you. I think I've driven myself slightly mad spending every minute editing it ha ha. I'm editing my ship tour as we speak as I'm away next weekend and hope to have it up on Sunday.
I think half of the trick with cruising is knowing what ships are right/wrong for you so it's good you know this one isn't for you. It would be for me with some friends and definitely not with some others haha.

Great review! I loved the Galaxy Pavilion - such an unexpected adventure with something for everyone. I "walked the plank" and I just decided not to look down and the guy said I had really good balance :-D The best one was The Descent. SO fun!! She's a beautiful ship!!

I cruised in a solo cabin on norwegian epic and really enjoyed the space. My family had their own cabin and I got to enjoy my privacy. It was great. I really enjoyed Norwegians food options too...I think its the best of the cruise lines I have traveled with. Really enjoying your commentaries, Emma...thanks.
I found this video very useful. I'm actually planning on booking a cruise for next year (2023), and the cruise I'm looking at is Encore. The tour of the dining rooms and the solo cabin in particular were helpful for me to cement my choice. Thank you.

I will be trying my first cruise on NCL April 2021 on Getaway from New York to Rome. Your thoughts about NCL just get me more excited. This will be my first solo cruise and I was going to book the solo cabin, but I got a standard interior for only $100 for the entire 18 days. Keep Vlogging.

Emma, with you talent and charm this could have been a great help for potential cruisers. You cannot miss the spa - one of a few best at see. NCL= Specialty Dining. This is 2x2 of Cruising like Norwegian. The open deck space is not small on this ship, it's a catastrophe. Happy cruising!

Great video Emma! Encore looks incredible. I tried the slides on Bliss when I sailed, you go so fast that you can't really see yourself going out over the edge of the ship😂

I have cruised on the sister ship Bliss through the Panama Canal. Love it. I am not one to want to sit around the pool. I loved the Observation Lounge on the Bliss. Looking forward to August 2023 on the Encore.
I love NCL Cruise Lines ... I go just about every year ... I always do the Breakaway & Escape ... haven't done the Bliss as of yet! Thank you soooooooo very much for sharing your experience on the Encore! Now as for the Water Slide ... it's a NO from me! LoL!

Emma Cruises well it had a few different vibes from one section like a coffee shop setting the other an airfield with the airplane shaped tables and the piano area was blues the place was great but a hot mess theme wise also had the photo booth

I just got of that cruise 5 hours ago , and I think that the go carts are rlly slow and I understand but just my opinion and the running track should not be on the top deck because it's covered by all the chairs🤷
DogBite 2525 it depends who you ride with if you are with a lot of kids they slow them down but if you have a group of adults they speed them up

I did the Anthem and while I felt it was a small ship (because I been on the Oasis and Allure) it was nice and i enjoyed the virtual balcony. Enjoy
I just got off this ship on Saturday, 9/4 after a 7-day Alaska cruise. It was only their third live cruise since re-starting service. I had a great time. I was in a solo cabin. I also soloed on her sister ship, Norwegian Epic, in January of last year. Your review is spot on. I agreed with everything you said. It was unseasonably chilly leaving Seattle (55°F). I only saw a few people use the go-cart track on the first day and never after that. I never saw anyone use the water slide. The Galaxy VR room was deserted with four very bored-looking attendants. Topside space is limited but it wasn't an issue on this trip due to the cold weather. The hot tubs were popular but not many in the pools or sunning although we had sunny weather for all save the sixth day which was a sea day. The observation lounge is my favorite place on the ship. I like to read there after breakfast or in the afternoon, especially on sea days. It can sometimes get noisy in the afternoon when people play cards and games or are busy eating. I think the food on Norwegian is a cut above with the sole exception of the scones. I'm surprised you didn't mention them. They were often overbaked and in the observation lounge only one station had jam and cream close at hand. Still, they were edible and better than the ones I had on the Sapphire Princess in 2018. Those might have been made of plaster. No amount of jam or cream could restore them. I've enjoyed your reviews and subscribed.

Great video. Ship looks really nice,but I will be passing based on lack of pool space. I live in the Northeast and these cruises are all about sunbathing for me in the winter. Thanks for pointing that out.
I was wondering where they would put pools with all of the go karts and laser tag, no for me too! I'm black but I love to sunbathe and swim🤣🤣
Your review is pretty spot on! Just got off the ship last Sunday (Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Tortola, Bahamas). We stuck to the complimentary dining rooms, the Local Bar & Grill and the Garden Buffet and didn’t check out any of the other restaurants, so I can’t say anything about those. I have to admit that the lounge chair situation on the pool decks, or lack thereof, was ridiculous! Despite a huge message displayed on the giant outdoor screen, people were reserving chairs, usually multiple, and were nowhere to be seen, sometimes for hours at a time! Very disappointing to say the least. Otherwise, the ship was overall pretty awesome, although really rocky crossing over the Bahamas!
Emma, thought you nailed it with this video..I have cruises on this ship as well as the Bliss the sister ship.. The MDR had excellent food however because it is at the back of the ship it can be some movement of the ship..Savior and Taste have same menu and is not as crowded as MDR. Since I am a travel agent I usually do groups which allows me to give all my clients free stuff in addition to what NCL gives clients..I recommend the speciality food venues and my clients get 4 of these for free on a 7 day cruise..I Never eat at buffet with all the good options just not my thing... Food is excellent everywhere I have eaten.. Entertainment and shows galore... This is my favorite ship and I recommend everyone to experience this ship... Great job Emma.. You are correct about the pool however with all the options on this ship I suspect this won't be much of a problem.. The observation deck the best especially early in the morning... Quiet and relaxing..

I love water slides and I would go on it! I'm a 35 year old mum of 3 but I'm a big kid when it comes to them 😂 You generally can't see outside of a waterside and I have been on loads, including one that went outside of a building 😀
Haha you are so brave!! I thought I was brave going on the MSC Meraviglia's waterslides in January but that is nothing compared to this. I'm too scared to get stuck or the dropping bit at the start. Bleh!

Great insight, she does look fabulous. Lack of deck space sun loungers at the cost of the go karts, for us wouldn't be a problem but can see it would be frustrating for some. Think we would spend most of our time in the Waterfront and Observation Lounge!
My favorite space on the Breakaway was the waterfront bars and lounge chairs.

Totally agree about the deck space. I went on the Bliss in the Caribbean and getting a chair to tan was impossible & thats with the Bliss still having the Spice H2O. That was the only downfall of the bliss & was super unfortunate especially with ships like the MSC Seaside having tons of deckspace
Usually, when the weather is good, they close the jogging track on the Sun Deck between 9 to 5 and put out additional loungers. For those that need the track, get up there early.
I just got off the Encore, was on the Transatlantic repositioning cruise. You captured it quite well. The specialty dining, if you buy a package is pretty reasonable, and also good, but I agree that you don't need it, I only went 4 nights (got the 4 night package as a free at sea perk). I didn't realize the issue with the pools, but you are right, it does seem small if 4000 folks will be heading there together. I also found the thermal suite kind of crowded, I felt they sold too many tickets to it. But it was beautiful.

I’m going on this ship for my first ever cruise next week. It’s in Alaska so I’m not too worried about the lack of pool space, however I think the observation lounge will be very popular and have its capacity put to the test.
Also, I had booked one of the studio cabins and was pretty excited about it but then I got upgraded to a balcony so I’m not complaining about that either!

Boarding this ship in 2 weeks for a mini cruise from LA to Vancouver, first time for our kids so perfect length to test it out with them. While everything looks and sounds nice, I do agree that the upper deck does appear a bit small for pool/lounging (my only comparison though being with the Royal Princess, and this has focused upper deck entertainment in a different way)
I've been on her sister the Norwegian Bliss when she was new and the encore reminds me a lot of the bliss

Jus found your channel, loving it. I have cruised NCL about 16/17 times and we love them.. have done RCL, princess and Carnival. What I will say is the best cabin I had but the worse service was on Princess. One of the first words said to me was no when I asked something simple from the cabin steward who took us to our room ( should say we had the owners suite). It was let me see what I can do or let me get the relevant person for you it was a flat no. Spoke to other staff as well in different departments and again I found a lot of negativity within there answers so it just wasn’t 1 person on a bad day. NCL have always been fantastic with us from our very first cruise which was a 7 day out of Houston (we live on the Isle of Man) so was a long journey just to get there in the first place. We travelled with then my 4 year old son so had a mini suite. Looked after us so well it was untrue so I suppose that set the bar for us. Haven’t done the Encore yet as my wife it’s a fan of the large ships (I am). She like the Jewel class and around that size. Have done the epic a couple of times plus others of course. Once again great channel and keep up the good work.

Hi Emma, My Wife went on the Encore on 11/24/2019 a few weeks after u...It was it's first cruise out of its home port in Miami. Loved the ship. the shows were awesome. the ship was great.. I also liked the District Brewery ( my favorate Bar)..Food was great and I agree with u that the only down part was the pool area...too small and it was not set up for Handicaped people

Looks like the same free-fall waterslide as on NCL Joy. I went on it 50 times during my Alaska cruise earlier this year.

6 times on the water slide, at 65 it was the most fun , the first drop can be unnerving as the floor drops out ! But you have to try
Nice job Emma. That was a great video. I have to agree about the lack of pool space though. That’s like a shame. Too much space given over to the track in the laser tag. I want to be able to relax. It’s kind of the same on the Disney cruise line - the pools are just so small because so much space is given over to kids stuff
beautiful ship. impressive. Trouble with NCL is they allow smoking in some areas of the ship, particularly in the casino where I like to hang out at night. I took the Escape last May and the smoke was so bad I thought I was going to choke. NCL has the most agreeable dining of any I've been on. I have never waited for a table and the service is always fast.
Unfortunately due to the smoking I won't travel NCL again, I choose celebrity. Did you notice a lot of smoke in the casino? Europeans I've found are big time smokers.
davewreslt the Ncl Joy has a glass enclosed smoking area and the rest of the casino is non smoking. I believe the Bliss and the Encore have it as well. I hate walking through the casino on older ships it is way to much smoke.
Thank you for the informative video. My family and I will be on the Encore in August of 2020. We have a Haven 2 bedroom Villa, which I am really happy about after seeing the lack of pools. I believe the Haven had it's own.

My family loved the Encore when we traveled to Alaska last summer. I heard that they are taking the laser tag area out on the next dry dock, which is disappointing. My son really enjoyed that and the VR games.
Water slides are a must...can’t wait for our cruise in October. Did the Bliss last year to Alaska!

Going on my first cruise in Feb 2023 with a large group. Excited but yea the laser tag and go kart stuff seems dumb…give me pool time!

One thing I love about NCL's and Carnival's new-builds is the outside deck areas. NCL calls it the "Waterfront," Carnival calls it the "Lanai Deck." Puts you a bit closer to the ocean and acts as a reminder that yes, you're on a cruise ship and not in a shopping mall. Royal Caribbean should take the hint.
