Huge fan of your playing - Keep up the good work:) Could you please do a rig runtrough video? I was especially wondering what gorgeous semi-hollow is hanging behind you?
You're an angel man. these videos really keeps the light in our daily study and wanna-be progression. (especially when you teach a full song) This is real holly .
Need more like you who simply simplify guitar playing. Taking the time to explain the little things that you hear but don’t see. I learned to play by ear so your vids help a lot.
Hurts to hear anyone hating on you for sharing your passion through your incredible ability to teach. You're an inspiration and you can tell you do this from your heart and love for your instrument. I hope you never let fools get you down, you're doing an incredible thing brother. Keep shining
what I enjoy -You give us the key -the progression 2-6-5/ and runs between chords -sauce -how to apply the sauce within the context -charts I feel engaged because I'm actually learning and can apply to music. I'm learning theory so I'm getting better. Each 10-12min video is gold
The triads are just chunks of different major/minor chords. If u learn your chords really well you'll naturally know which notes of a certain chord u wanna use for your triad. Get a chord chart and just play with them, it's good training for learning new 'wierd' sounds but you'll start to see that the fit in with other chords really well
Kerry, I’ve been playing on and off since I was 13. I am now 29. Probably a total of 8 years playing, due to years of breaks from guitar in between. Self taught so I missed a lot of the fundamentals in my younger years as a guitarist. I felt stagnant many times and felt like there was no progression, which is a big reason for all the years of breaks without playing. I also have a big stage anxiety. Never been on stage with guitar tbh but anyone listening was enough to get me nervous af. Since I started watching your channel my guitar playing is at a level I never thought I could reach and I know that I have so much more I can become as a guitarist. I'm now recordin and creating. I'm getting compliments all the time from artists that so record in the studio I work at and my confidence as a musician is at an all time high! F the haters man and thank you for your guidance, lessons and good vibes! I will be signing up for Kerry’s camp sometime this week. Keep going Kerry! Oh and I’ve gotten value from all your lessons. From the more complex lessons to the smallest tips you give( subtleties, dynamics, not doing too much) these really helped me refine my playing. Can’t thank you enough my guy!
That stagnant stuff your referring to ? I went through the same thing when I was dipping my toes into theory. The best honest advice that helped me overcome those chunks of "playing the same progressions" no matter what we were doing as a band when we started to improvise ? I'd resort right back to what I'd been trying to overcome. It's kinda like a fighter/boxer , he will train something over and over and when the "heat of the battle" so to speak starts he goes back to what feels comfortable. I myself started to listen to cats like this. I was told by an old dude one time to listen to music that I would normally NEVER listen or play to . It helped me tremendously
Beautiful playing, and great instruction on the chord changes and not overplaying. Me and my girlfriend are starting to play guitar together and your material will be a big help. Thank you!
I’m 48yrs old and just getting into the guitar and to just hearing you play this and break it down in such a simple way but still maintain the feel of his cover was great to see and hear. Thank you for sharing your gift.
You gotta make covers and put them up on Spotify! This would make great music for study sessions man, I’m sure I’m not the only person who thinks this as well.
Hi Kerry, Baba Emir here. Thanks for the notification about this lesson. This is a perfect time for this breakdown. It is so methodical the way you are constructing and it all falls right into place. Gotta practice to get the coordination, but it is so do-able. Hey I'll see you tonite at the Kamp workshop, and I sent you an interesting suggestion in a live question submission. If you like it give me a buzz, we'll talk. Tanks so much for all your work. The Baba Emir Speaks the True. Peace IN
For anyone wondering, that "not doing a full Cmin7" @ 2:30 with the middle finger off is a Cmin9 (with the 3rd omitted). It took me a bit to figure that one out.
yup, but it's called c7 sus :) it's one of the less common, yet dope sounding chords. but because it has no 3rd, it can't be minor or major. so it's suspended :) stay safe yall. being stuck inside is never boring if your guitar is around. love yall :)
Kerry just fantastic . my dad lived for rb guitar and he passed away not long ago he played with that soft touch you have he would be absolutely stuck on this channel if he were here wish he could hear your groove thanks for sharing your insight on guitar your licks are just flat nasty!, godbless
It is beyond me, why someone would be rude when you are providing such good information. You have made a big difference in how I approach my instrument. Thanks so very much!!!
Real talk. Who would have something bad to say about these AMAZING, FREE lessons? Always encouraged by your work. You've inspired me to pick up the guitar after years of not playing.
You are a great teacher man,I love the guitar it's a beautiful instrument. You make it look easy I know it's not, I am retire and 65 years old I keep trying. But God gave you two gifts to teach and play, I will keep listening and learning. Thank you 😊
Hi Kerry, here's my comment. I recently "retired" from my part time job as a professional guitarist. I started in the 80s with hair metal as a full time traveling musician and recently ended a 10 yr long gig with an all original Christian Country project that did 3 albums and traveled every weekend. I'm now playing just because I love to play and finding something like this that expands my musical vocabulary into a groove centric genre is like breathing fresh air. Love what you're doing here man. Keep up the inspirational work.
Bro, these videos have been on point. I’ve been playing now for a year some change and am able to follow along well. These make my practice fun and adds songs to my repertoire. I just pause and rewind. Thank you for what you do and keep going!
Love how you take a simple chord progression and make each chord sing instead of just noodling to fill space or show off - reminds me of the quote "play to the song"
This was beautiful. Thank you. I’m still trying to learn how to add this kind of texture to my chord playing without being too busy and this was a great example of what to do.
I am a 50 year old self taught musician on keyboards and bass. Been playing keys for about 15 years and bass for about 5. I have always loved guitar and recently started taking lessons to get more theory in my life. I have been hungry to learn new things and am so grateful that I found your page. These are truly golden nuggets. You break things down to help me progress along. It’s takes me a while to get the progressions but I have nothing but I stick to it slow until I get it. Speed will come with time. Thank you thank you thank you!!! Great content.
Kerry this was an excellent lesson! Love how you kept this one really locked in and focused solely on the lesson at hand which was the "triad movement" making easy to grasp and understand. It was great how you clearly broke this one down, slowly demonstrated it repeatedly, all without drifting off into a bunch if other cool other things that we can't catch and or figure. That of course only leaves eager students like myself frustrated wanting to figure it all out. Of course I say this with much respect and love. Charts are always helpful as well so thanks for that. Especially when we occasionally can't see what you're playing and or when it's played too fast. All said knowing the importance of working on ear training. Again great lesson!! Would definitely love to see more lessons on this and more to better learn how to embellish chord progressions. Keep up the great work and thanks for all you do!! :-)
Every time I think about selling my Les Paul to get a Strat with a maple neck and two humbuckers, I see someone who’s playing I love and respect with a Les Paul and I know I’ll regret it. Great lesson man. Thanks 🙏
CEO of can’t stress enough My choir director once told me, it’s great to have fun but it’s more fun to be great. Play for the song! Thanks for the reminder homie
Here's a comment for you! I'm an Italian American guy who grew up in Howard Beach N.Y. (yeah that place!) I'm a Rock/Blues guitarist who wants to expand his musical ear and totally love your style/playing and teaching ability! continue in what you do because in a strange way, music is also love and admiration. It breaks down barriers you would never have thought could be broken!! Peace and Love!
You are the single most influential guitarist on UA-cam (in my opinion). You’re willing to share your knowledge and I’ve gotten better because of your channel. Much thanks🙏🏿👊🏿
Honestly bro. Im teaching myself guitar and i've been on UA-cam searching for someone to help with my journey. This is my 4th instrument so understanding theory and the number system has been helping alot. However, the nuggets that you are dropping in these videos are helping me add LITERALLY the sauce to my playing. And for that I subscribed and now say thank you for being such a blessing to the masses. Your teaching is simple but effective and thats the key to growing especially as a musician. I made a progression on IG live after watching the very first video from you using some of the chords you gave and I recieved so many compliments. People literally told me that I sounded like a professional guitar player and other producers hit me up asking if I could play loops for them as well. Lastly, I think you should consider making a guitar loop pack for producers that are not guitar players. The industry is REALLY loving the guitar vibe at the moment and it could be another revenue stream for you, assuming you havent already done so.. Sorry so long. Once again THANKS.. 💯
I can only be appreciative of the skillset you have and the willingness of you to share with us, back in the day this was not as much available, once again thank you. You are the smoothness .
I really like these shorts triad tricks because it's a great way to "spice" up my playing! Also, I like how you add a close-up shot when you're playing because I can see clearly your LH and RH technique.
I’ve been playing guitar for over 30 years and have for the past couple of months been following your lessons and playing along. If it weren’t for your videos I probably would have quit on trying to learn a new style and sticking to my old ways. Keep up the work man. It just goes to show it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been playing, there is something for everyone here
I first saw you playing slow dancing with with Soloman, and I remember thinking damn, this guy is super talented and smooth with it. So often people just fixate on the singer, I get that. But you elevated the song, gave it life, and you did that so beautifully while making it seem effortless. Was trying to learn a new song and can't across the and was like damn that guy looks like homeboy in the burning room video. Honestly made my week to find you, and see your giving tutorials. Thank you, I really appreciate it.
Thanks for your videos, Kerry. I'm bassist who plays guitar and your videos help both ways. Its awesome how you break stuff down, practically and theoretically. Great stuff, all the time!
I've played mostly in country bands & also play rock & blues but man, I found your channel a few weeks ago & have been addicted! I'm Loving learning to play this whole new flavor of music it's getting me out of a little rut too. Keep doing what you do it's great!
Wow. This is really good. I love this. I'm a 49 year beginner. I've had a guitar for decades plural. Played, quit, played, quit. but always kept the guitar. About 8 years ago i picked it up 100% for fun. No pressure. I gave myself permission to play only with no pressure. If i sucked just enjoy it. It's been great. But now. I'm actually trying to learn to progress to the intermediate level. I'm learning the basics of the basic chords now, bar chords. I forgot what's next, maybe triads. But it's neat to see you say where in the key of B flat, and to see the shape of your fingers. Before i kinda wouldn't have the context. Anyways i love this version of Tamia's song. Keep making these great videos. Inspiring.
Dude this is so helpful!! M only 32, but I've been playing guitar regularly for the better part of 20 years now. Things have felt super stale lately and your vids are seriously pushing me to the next level.
Just happened to stumble upon this in the middle of the night. I love the practical teaching and chord diagrams to refresh/learn, but you still keep it interesting by throwing in triad licks. It gives that instant gratification that I can put in my back pocket to pull out in a song, but doesn't leave me with just that one trick.
Hey Kerry, I just started to learn guitar and there is no one that teaches RnB like you. It really helps a lot and makes learning fun again. Thanks for all the content!
With your honest and open self expression how could we not like you! So down to earth and real. Meant in the nicest of ways - as a geek, you are a geek I aspire to be. Because only that obvious time and dedication and enthusiasm can be achieved with hours and hours, in the bedroom, doing what he loved - and look at you now, and inspiration to so many other musicians (us "geeks") around the globe - simply put - you rock!
I love how you expand on the song, nobody else does that. They just teach you how to play the song exactly and it’s boring. You should do a lot more tutorials on some more modern r&b
Hey Kerry, Just droppin off this comment to share the good vibes I've been on and off watching your channel, mostly because I'm really busy in college. I'm actually in college for music and majoring in guitar and I'm learning tons at the college, yet I keep finding myself here at your channel. From what I've seen so far, you seem to be an incredibly talented artist and an excellent teacher. I've learned lots from the few videos I watched, and I'll inevitably learn much more. I can't really say how much I've learned from your videos because then I'd be typin paragraphs. Keep doin what you're doin dude you're awesome! and you've transformed my playing! Have a great day!
This lesson was excellent! The visible chord diagrams really help and the explanation of the improv, walk ups and the theory helps to understand why it works within the key of where we are playing. Thank you 🙏🏾
You are amazing. I've learned so much about groove and style from you, and you move at a good pace for me. You are an outstanding teacher. From one teacher to another…
So glad your channel exists. This is the playing I want to further explore, not only that I’m a les paul enthusiast and I really appreciate you trying to advocate for the Les Paul in this style of music!
I got mad love for ya my man. I'm 39 , yes I'm a 80s metal head but , I've ALWAYS loved the Motown sound and the new Jack swing stuff during the 90s . I'm still trying to remove that typical rock timing from my playing . Youd be amazed how much these simple chord progressions help me to re establish a different timing or strum pattern. From one world to the next in the musician world ? I thank ya my man
Glad I found you, I enjoy your lessons, the suace, and most importantly the encouragement to be disciplined. I was at the point I wanted to give up, then I stumbled upon your videos.
Dude I like the way you give your lessons, if this is how you do it, you're not too slow that I start noodling, you kinda have a perfect timing. I love those triads.
This was excellent, clear and straightforward. I saw your Chnl some time ago but haven't been back since. Your hint discipline is so important. You truly packed a lot in this 11 min 42sec class. Been playing on and off for years...this was very insightful. Will become a regular on here. This is one of the best mini Master classes I've seen. Thanks
Man, as someone who is just now getting into R&B/gospel type of stuff - YOU ARE DOPE BRO!! Appreciate the time you take and not only teach the chords but the discipline and things you think about when you’re playing. Huge help fr!
Great video my Brother, I’m a producer and I play keys, drums and percussion primarily but I’ve been leaning guitar because I love what it brings to my music and there are things that guitar players bring that you can reproduce on a keyboard. I have been a fan of yours for a while especially when I found out that you played for Ledisi. In the last year I’ve bought 2 guitars and 2 amps because of the tones I was looking for to use on my next project (an Ibanez PM20 with a Roland JC40 and a Fender Jazzmaster with a Fender Blues Jr Limited). I love what you do Bro. You certainly inspire me to play more guitar.
I love how you explain this stuff with the focus on the chords. It’s so helpful to shape purposeful melodies and ditch the common scale approach that’s easy to fall into as a guitarist.
Thanx kerry I appreciate these insights into a soulful approach to providing melodic, harmonic & rhythmic options within the context of honouring the integrity & flavour of the song. Breaking down the concepts of transitioning from one chord to another with passing chords & nuances is super beneficial for me. Blessings brother
I appreciate the theory and the deeper knowledge but making it relatable and practical. I see a lot of hip hop based guitar lessons but there isn't as much knowledge and theory. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
This vid has been up for 11months so don't know if you are going to read this but I hope you can show more songs like this Def gospel. But after you show the specific song show us how we can implement it in other songs. You are the best you showed me how to use Triads with the anything for you song. I play it in church all the time. It's beautiful. Thank you sir for helping US grow
I've watched that vid of childish gambino doing this on like a version about 100 times and when I saw this pop up on my home page I was super excited, that opening lick at 5:47 was so smooth, great work man
The listening enjoyment I get...wow ..it lights me up man...your sound is profound and this influences to begin playing again...though I'm a beginner...thank u...I love the sound and I'm a fan
As a blues player this type of playing is so fresh and enjoyable to get into. I love the embellishments you naturally go to. Every time my ear catches something you stop and explain what it was. Big fan of the stuff! Keep it up! Going to have fun exploring your catalog.
Solid bro. I just had a private lesson with u about 2 weeks ago and we were talking about a lot of squeezing what we can in that window. Good stuff brother.
Really appreciate your content Kerry. For years now I've wanted to learn R&B style guitar and I'm finally studying it in earnest, using your vids to build a solid foundation, and I'm finding the learning process to be very fun. Thanks once again bro ✊🏽
Great video Kerry. I love the song both the original and the cover. Also like how you emphasize repetition and how the guitarist especially rhythm guitarist and the importance of keeping time with the rest of the band. Thank you
Loved, loved, and loved the triad demonstration. I don't know why, but I've been on the fence bout joining Kerry's Camp. I'm not anymore, I'm officially sold! Especially, the last two presentations has been fire! Greatly appreciate it!
i stop by for every lesson on chords you do... i'm working on adding melodic bits added to the rhythm... you really show the way i'm trying to go and i appreciate your style a lot. thanks for puttting this stuff out here for me and my kind.
Couldn't deal with your lesson before. Had to put in work to even understand what your talking about. Your lessons are really for an intermediate player that feels comfortable. I used to spend more time listening to you rather than playing mine. Now it seems as if you are opening the flood gate of knowledge. Keep working at your craft and you are making a difference.
Aloha,k2s...you are the nugget king..im still running through this lesson ..so right get in the zone find the groove..man your lessons are so full of little things most overlook. Im grateful ive done so many of yiur lessons..ideal..hay thats a good nugget there..anyway keep doing what you doing change nothing do you on guitar..your work helps me in so many other types of music...one love mahalo.
Hey, you asked for a comment... I've never seen your channel before but I'm in. You're articulate and a really clean guitar player. Now I'm off to try and make that triad flurry sound natural!
Great information and inspiration. Im a new player and this really helped, especially breaking down the chords, showing them on screen because other tutorials are hard to follow because they usually do a trick and rush through it, they are more geared to seasoned players but leave us newbies out. Thanks and keep them coming.
Loved the video. I’m a former metal musician whose recently chosen to step out of my box and play loving music. Videos like this help me understand new ways to approach moods with the guitar. Much appreciated 🙏🏼
Hey there Kenny! Somehow the UA-cam algorithm turned me onto this video of yours tonight, and I really liked it! I love your tone and approach- all that you talked about with keeping it simple, and practicing a loop to get the changes and embellishments under your fingers. Loved the chord voicings too. I’ll be coming back for more. Thanks!
Mark Tyler thanks. Make sure you subscribe and hit the bell- I’m doing live training every day this week. Times vary, so hitting the bell means you’ll get the alert when I start.
Leave a comment below or your questions! Thanks so much for watching...I appreciate all of you!
Whenever you're doing triad movements if you spent more time on them that would be nice
Les Paul sounds good not muddy or anything...8:55 is Eric Gales sounding. Does the pickups have coil spliting?
Huge fan of your playing - Keep up the good work:) Could you please do a rig runtrough video? I was especially wondering what gorgeous semi-hollow is hanging behind you?

what I enjoy
-You give us the key
-the progression 2-6-5/ and runs between chords
-sauce
-how to apply the sauce within the context
-charts
I feel engaged because I'm actually learning and can apply to music. I'm learning theory so I'm getting better. Each 10-12min video is gold
The triads bruh.... Hit us up with more of those man... Like the triad movements are really great but more details on how would be great...
Ansis Pope cool
Yes!
Kerry "2 Smooth" yes - More Triads
Yeah definitely a missed opportunity to show us the actual chords n fingering n science behind the fingering. Great channel tho & player

Beautiful playing, and great instruction on the chord changes and not overplaying. Me and my girlfriend are starting to play guitar together and your material will be a big help. Thank you!

Great use of the on-screen tabs. And showing us which fingers are being used for the hammer-ons. Videos feel less rushed and more descriptive. Thanks!
You're welcome!
You are a great teacher man,I love the guitar it's a beautiful instrument. You make it look easy I know it's not, I am retire and 65 years old I keep trying. But God gave you two gifts to teach and play, I will keep listening and learning. Thank you 😊
I'm always ripping your licks bro ;-)
Can you do a tone video maybe? R&B tones, clean and lead tones. Need to know how to dial in that sweet R&B tone
Yeah... and make it old school R&B tones. Some wide-range humbuckers on Tele etc. ;)
Dude u opened up a whole new can of worms for me man I love r&b man u teach it great keep at it

This tutorial is awesome, but I had one question: how do you play riffs like the one you play at 5:44? Are you playing a specific scale?
Probably improvizing over scale with movement around the neck. Scale is A# / Bb major
denominator720 sane question
You are the single most influential guitarist on UA-cam (in my opinion). You’re willing to share your knowledge and I’ve gotten better because of your channel.
Much thanks🙏🏿👊🏿
Will you do a tutorial on
"The Things Your Man Won't Do" by JOE
You are doing great👍😊. Very entertaining & not boring way to learn guitar . Thanks
Cool chords bro
Is it just me, or is childish gambino flat as on this one.
it happens

Slow the chord diagrams down some bro I’m a little slow
Finally! A guitar video on youtube that ain't about Rob Chapman. Thanks for the video. I love the Rhythm.
Inspiring.
Dude don’t let anyone mess with your flow, thank you for giving of your time to us; that’s the beauty of UA-cam you are inspiring a lot of people. Gil
Music to me means peace of mind and your playing fulfills it
Your videos are fantastic, your playing is ace, and your patience in explaining your instrument within your genre is top class 👌👍
Hey Kerry,
Just droppin off this comment to share the good vibes
I've been on and off watching your channel, mostly because I'm really busy in college.
Absolutely love this video. Your instructional vibe and your playing are both awesome!
@@RyanLima-m3i thank you.
Thank you bro! I learned this arrangement earlier last year and I came across this video again. I appreciate you!
@@LanceRohde you're welcome
You are excellent as a teacher. I’m enjoying your lessons immensely. Thanks
Thanks
First video I have ever seen and it was pure class. Loved the triad movement.
I like this guy, his love of the music is coming across, none of that silly fake energy other channels throw at ya!
Man, as someone who is just now getting into R&B/gospel type of stuff - YOU ARE DOPE BRO!! Appreciate the time you take and not only teach the chords but the discipline and things you think about when you’re playing. Huge help fr!
You’re welcome.
Bruh I like what you do. I appreciate the way you encourage creativity but also be disciplined to blend into the song add a colorful mix. Thank you.
So grateful that you took the time to share this! I’m just starting out but loving the content and learning new techniques
I'm an older Memphis blues player, and I appreciate what you do.
You have great lessons Kerry. Keep up the good work.
Such beautiful touch. 🥰Wonderful knowledge. Treasure chest. Thank you so much for all of this. 🙏🏻
Dude - so glad I have come across your channel - your great. So happy to have you as a mentor
Thank you
I'm big on chord progressions right now. I love all the triad ideas and examples. Please do more triad concepts!
Loved, loved, and loved the triad demonstration. I don't know why, but I've been on the fence bout joining Kerry's Camp. I'm not anymore, I'm officially sold! Especially, the last two presentations has been fire! Greatly appreciate it!
I love the simplicity of your videos man. And your vibe. I've been playing for 21 years and I've plateaued so I'm picking it back up again :)
Love the nuggets! Those lite things are what make a song a jam! Keep em coming. Thanks
Beautiful playing! Appreciate the articulate explanations...makes it easier to understand and apply... dig that DGT back there!
Bruh best guitar vids on yt rn. Please keep making em. The triad movement thing was cool subbed
i stop by for every lesson on chords you do... i'm working on adding melodic bits added to the rhythm... you really show the way i'm trying to go and i appreciate your style a lot. thanks for puttting this stuff out here for me and my kind.
Kinfolks, This right here Blessed me something serious , I already loved the original but you've opened up a new perspective with the added sauce!
Nice triad....love it
Great information and inspiration.
The triad movement breakdown was great! Preciate you.
Man you've help my guitar playing a lot!!!! R&B and gospel is what I play a lot!!!!! Thanks you big bro
