watching jonathan out of character is wild because he's so well spoken and intelligent, which i think is what it takes to play such a stupidly unaware character.
He reminds me of Stan Laurel of "Laurel and Hardy": Stan's character was always the "idiot" in any scenario and Hardy was the straight guy, but in reality it was Stan who was the more business-like of the two.
Dennis is my favorite. I can't get enough of the "gimme the sword" routine from Peter Pan. And "......yes" from Christmas Carol. Vim...vimdevimvimvim...bing!
the lodge is the only episode i can't rewatch, bc it's physically painful how much i laugh during it, like just rewatching the get out bit here hurt my chest
I mean, it's most likely because that's the character he wanted to play. Plus, British people just love playing the failure in comedy situations. And I say that as a Brit.
The Lodge is my favorite episode. Not only do I like it when Dennis says "She said 'now deer'." At 0:48, but I also love it when says "Yes, nailed it!" at 5:14.
You know those dreams actors sometimes have? Where they show up to rehearsals, but it turns out the premier istoday and it's a completely different show than the one they thought they were performing, so they don't know their lines, but they're the only one who isn't prepared? That's Dennis' life.
The beer/bear joke kills me. However, one of my favourite scenes is not in this from that episode, where "Melinda"runs out of water gun "tears"and just tosses the pot of coffee into his face as a substitute and he screams. XD!!!!

Only good show the BBC have made for years, it's like the golden age of Monty Python with smart humor and silly gags. Really loved it so much I had to show it to friends and family. Really hope for a more international way to see it too (Netflix, Blu-ray).
This is great! My stomach hurts from laughing so much I'm a bit sad that it's missing the part in 'Peter Pan' when Jonathon breaks character and laughs. It's when Henry Shields (Hook) yells at him for trying to start another "Oh no it isn't!" part. It's at ua-cam.com/video/6H1UjfpPf48/v-deo.html But this is golden regardless, thank you!
He's too stupid to be believable. Any theatrical group no matter how unlucky they are with the sets or the timing or the technicalities live, would always fire someone who's talentless. That is the shows only weakness I'm afraid.
I just find the whole Mischief Theatre nonsense deeply irritating and equally unfunny. Really lazy comedy. All the supposed jokes are telegraphed way ahead of their being used (eg: the misunderstanding of the word ‘beer’ to include ‘bear’ and finally ‘beard’).
watching jonathan out of character is wild because he's so well spoken and intelligent, which i think is what it takes to play such a stupidly unaware character.
