Thanks for posting. Very helpful. Also. Do you know where the Hydraulic Fluid goes? And does it need checking or maintenance? Can’t seem to find anything on it. I think it is the black cap behind that one

If the level has sunk a bit, question is: Where did the fluid go?
This is a closed system, there must not be any fluid missing.

Do you know how much gearbox oil needs? The service manual shows needs 2.9 liter, but only 1.7 can go in....

Hi - so this video just covers checking the levels and topping up a few ml if and when required. Thanks.

Isn't it a fact that when you loose oil in 1000 km's you have a leak ?
There is no use of oil in this closed system isn't it?

I think you are right. The notice is most relevant for the first 1000km. But I like to check it before a long trip. Better safe than sorry.

Hi thank you for updating his video;I have a question about the Fiat ducato gearbox (ducato turbo diesel camper 2013) . I was away for 45 days. Came back home and started the car but it showed me the message " gearbox unavailable" Would you happen to know what might cause this. Anything to do with low fluid in the gearbox?

My mechanic moved it to alongside the air box.

So, I take it this only applies to manual geared Ducatos? And autos are fine........correct?

Mine is a automatic manual, a manual with a automatic system (assume yours probably is too) and it needed this topped up

Thanks for this clip. My question is: when checking I noticed fluid is very dark and looks like it has been hot. How can I drain system? I sucked out reservoir and refilled but want to change fluid completely. Your thoughts appreciated. Mike (in NZ). BTW 2016 2.3 130 comfortmatic at 63K.

@@ThreeFineWondersNormally it is nonsense that Comfortmatic needs recalibrating just because the clutch fluid has been exchanged

Excellent, what are your thoughts about the reservoir behind the one you opened? What is that one for? How do we check the levels, does it need topping up?

Hello Matt, I don't know the answers to these questions myself. But I make it a habit to save tips I read on Ducato online groups and have found this information, but I did not, unfortunately make note of who made this comment:
      Unknown Author:
"Re clutch queries for the Ducato 6 speed Comfort-matic transmission on the 3.0 litre engine.
It is NOT an automatic; it is a manual gearbox with a clutch.
2 different computer controlled hydraulic mechanisms operate the clutch & gear change even if you have selected Manual.
It uses 3 different fluids (oils).
The gear change mechanism uses hydraulic fluid (not brake fluid), in the large rectangular reservoir aft of the air filter. It has a tube through its cap. Fluid level should be approx 60mm deep, measure with a straw.
The hydraulic clutch uses Dot4 brake fluid for its slave cylinder that operates the clutch. It's the small 50ml reservoir, aft of the air filter with yellow text on the cap.
Difficult to see & access, take care to ensure the cap is not cross threaded. Manta Adelaide advise cross threading is the main reason for fluid loss. The reservoir can be relocated for easier access.
Fill to 10mm from the top.
Check every 1000km at least or clutch failure can occur. Best topped with a large syringe & hose.
The gearbox which is an automated manual (AMT) uses gearbox oil, sealed for life in theory but Manta Adelaide recommended changing at 80K.
You can select between Auto & Manual any time while driving (Manual is best for steep hills).
You must leave the gearbox in First or Reverse when shutting down the engine or the van can roll away! This is a vital safety procedure." - by Unknown Author

yours is the only material I found on the whole internet and to have a video on it too.....excellent. I believe this is my problem as my 2015 ducato says "gear unavailable". Do you know if you can use any dot 4 brake/clutch fluid or has to be Tutela brand?

    • @VanHacks
      @VanHacks  2 роки тому

Glad to helpful. Safest bet is to use Tutela though I know many people don't.

@@VanHacks my RV wont go into gear when it heats up. I checked this 50ml reservoir in your video in my Ducato and it still had fluid in it so that is not my problem but I think there is another bigger reservoir just behind this one which is not dot 4. I think it's Tutela CS Speed or selespeed fluid. This 2nd fluid drives the piston which then drives the dot 4 reservoir to open/close clutch. Have you ever checked this 2nd bigger reservoir yourself?

What is this? Is this newer version problem? Mine is 15 years old and it is full and never even checked this? In Mine that reservor is in good and easy place also!
