Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Your story keeps me inspired as a female Comp Eng major. Some of the classes get me down when professors don't take the time to help you or teach you those fundamentals. It seems like its comes down to how much you can teach yourself and the friends you surround yourself with. Thanks for sharing!
Hearing your story is inspiring. I'm an accountant in a city of engineers here in San Francisco. I've always been contemplating of making the jump career-wise as I find I no longer have the passion I once have for accounting. Hearing your life choices and initial struggle is very similar to what I'm going through right now. I just have to make that jump that you once did. Thank you for sharing your story!
I am still taking online courses and I am 14. First I started taking codecademy corses than I started to realize that I am not really learning anything from it. Then I found a youtuber named "clever programmer" and currently taking his course and its really helping me.
love to see other women in tech :) im slowly getting into programming on my own and seeing other women who are in tech inspires me more and more. hope to make it some day!! also you're so pretty!
This is so cool to find. I'm also studying Chemical Engineering but ended up not liking it and teaching myself programming, and now I'm looking for programming jobs. Greetings from Mexico :D
I am a few months way of graduating in Materials Engineering and after deep frustrations with the career as an materials engineer and after bad internship experiences in financial markets, I decided to study programming again (after saying that I would never program anything back to when I was in the first year learning C code) and right now I am considering enrolling to masters in computer science or studying my ass off to one day work as software engineer or something similar. Thanks for sharing such great and inspiring journey! :)
ok really specific question, but how did you get an internship in the US, being Canadian? did you need sponsorship? and if so, did yahoo provided it for you? I don't understand how a foreigner (me) could get an internship in the US with a lack of work authorization.
God I miss the view of that beautiful bridge... Great story. It's nice to see self-taught software engineers work at a company like Airbnb. Makes you want to hustle harder.
Great story about the hustle and going with the flow, Luba. Only suggestion is getting a lavalier mic so it drowns out some of the outside noise. Love your videos, much love from Melbourne!
Hey luba, firstly thank you very much to tell us your story. It was very inspiring for me because I am studying Material Science and I am also not interested with my department. :( 6 months ago I tried Python in udemy to understand this job is good or bad for me. I realized that I really liked programming. That's why I decided that I should change my goals and should study hard to learn programming. (I have learned python, html, css and now learning javaScript) I will finish my bachelor next year and I am searching internship as software engineer as you did. I hope I can find : )) wish me luck :) Last thing I want to say it will be great if you take more videos about Software Engineering. (Sorry for my english btw : ) ) Greetings from Turkey!
LOL I remember you, I was in the pre-study course that you took in Germany too. I remembered you singing an opera song for all the group. Now that I'm looking for info about Canada this video appears ... so funny. Greetings from Colombia :)
Pretty good so far. I'm checking how is life in Toronto. There is an opportunity to move there so I would like to be sure how are the things before I make a decision :).
Great video :) What study materials did you find useful in learning computer science and software engineering theory/concepts? Any recommendations?? Thanks.
hi luba, i did have a similar path way as you. i have bachelor´s degree in statistics but i did my internships in software development because i am keen on computers. the interesting fact is that today, due to iot devices, statistics is turning into spotlight because of many data generated.
One question. How the hell can you afford housing in the Silicon Valley? I really want to pursue CE at SJSU, but the cost of living is way too high over there. 😔😧😡
So what is your job title at airbnb? You work as android developer? It would be nice if you do a video on exactly what you do at airbnb and whether you feel your work is impactful.
Hi, awesome that you get it, I want to ask, what was the knowledge that you need to get a internships in computer sciences or a job in this area. Thanks to the video :)
Awesome=) Thank You for sharing. Myself is in Canada doing Computer Engineering. I quite understand what you mean by intense engineering program. You prove that Degree doesn't determine who you are but you found your passion. Would be very nice to get your opinion on how's life in San-Francisco for the young graduates.
Awesome video! I really enjoyed your story. I hope you keep growing as a software engineer! You deserve to be very successful :) greetings from Mexico.
thank you so much for your video ...i am soon starting out on software engineering as a major in russia and i need some tips on how to excel in it highly
I am also a non computer science software engineer. How do you explain why you took chemical engineering if you were so passionate about computer science in the first place?
I’m really interested in your career. Because I’m also chemical engineer in Japanese chemical company. Then I’m studying process engineering in USA now! On the other hand, I’m interested in software engineering as well. So I’ll check your UA-cam from now! I’m looking forward to watching your channel! Thanks!
Interesting story , I am doing the same major and I believe that Software Engineering is very promising field because it is all about software industry now , isn't it ? :) Keep up the good work . Greeting from Saudi Arabia
aahhhh that's so awesome. I've been struggling to find a job since Jan 2018.. no luck so far. Studying everyday and doing side projects at the moment until then.. is it normal to not find an entry-level software dev job within 3 to 4 months after graduating?
Question plz , how did u get yr intern in yelp, how was the interview, hard easy ?? Also did they ask u about any experience or project ... ? Thanks in advance

Sine I don’t need to go back to college, I start learning online, and I’m enjoying it a lot
Hello! Luba what an interesting story, I would like to know which were the online courses that you took at first 😊, thanks in advance Greetings, bye bye
Here's what I don't understand: Whenever I visit forums or say Quora, the one unanimous thing all CS majors who work as devs tell is this - if you don't have a CS degree, you have ZERO value in the tech industry, regardless of your years of experience and studies from MOOCs/books/videos etc. They go on to say that a CS fresh graduate would be worth more than a dev with 15 years of experience!
Great story ! Could you please elaborate a bit the interview part (how did you prepare, what materials did you use to prepare for interviews and also if you could share with us your experiences from these interviews ). Thank you !
Hey Luba! Was it easy getting a job in Silicon Valley with a Canadian education? I know people who have gone to Waterloo or UofT tend to be more desirable when it comes to engineering/comp sci. Any tips you can share would be appreciated!
