  • The use of new-age technologies like AI, Robotics and automation is on the rise in the architecture and construction industry. While the increasing use of intelligent machines is a revolutionary step in tech innovation, it also gives rise to new worries: what does this mean for architects of the future? Should we be scared? Are robots taking over the world? Is the future of architecture in the hands of machines? In this video, we’re going to take an honest look and get to the heart of the matter. Are architects going to be made redundant by AI? Or is AI in architecture a blessing in disguise?

My daughter who is an architecture student is concerned about her career getting affected with the advent of AI. I guess it will impact in a positive way. What do you think? TIA

Hey. The conversation is pretty intense and we don't believe it would be fair to condense it in one comment :)
However, we are optimistic that no technology, yet, is powerful enough to overtake human understanding and connection. It is only a tool which, when used properly, can help develop ideas that would've probably not been able to see the light of the day otherwise.
      Hope this helped!

Hi I work in EU as an engineer/architect and sometimes I do visualizations as hobby ... In conceptual sketches and visualization AI already is beginning to show ... Even without architectural background and skill/software people will be able to create output for which until now would need to invest a lot of time and money... But our work is also interaction with client, dealing with bureaucracy, designing by codes and regulations, stuff I cannot imagine AI would be able to substitute any time soon. Probably some parts of our profession will devaluate, in similar way CAD/CAE changed it decades ago and some parts will be completely replaced. We will have to adapt :)

@@filipbalcar3567 Hello! Thanks for sharing this with us. A lot of human interaction you already mentioned solidifies our belief that there are certain parts that can never be overtaken by technology. But it helps to be aware of the tools and technologies affecting our industry to adopt and adapt better :)

Us too! We believe that since architecture is a subject about humans, no amount of technological innovation can neither duplicate nor infuse aspects such as emotional connection and empathy in a design.
Having said that, there are many upsides to automation that you could read about here:

I don't agree with your stand on humans providing empathy and feelings in their buildings through architecture, it's arguable because AI hasn't reached that level of details oriented delivery of architecture, it's on its way.
I won't accept that BIM saves architecture, BIM eases architect's way of working and not designing capabilities
AI can automate floorplans now, in the next 10 year time it can even be trained further and has its own library of a particular architect's style and clients can directly take advantage of that with not reaching an architect, choosing their start-to-end full set of drawings, and much more,
there is an accountable factor though but when if the drawings pass to another AI to test and quality check, it's no place for a human to intervene anymore,
if a client has a particular vision and if they get all they want just by selecting and making decisions right away on a website, that's progressiveness. Like how we shop on Amazon and purchase stuff, in AR/VR - AI-Assisted Building is soon to be launched.
Clients can directly have their thoughts to life with AI, yes it needs initially some human intervention in terms of execution but designing should be done on full command of the client.
Architects and the AEC industry cannot process many client's visions from start to end, maybe high-profile clients can be given enough attention but otherwise not middle class can have their dreams come as they wish
In simpler terms Revit costs roughly $300/month and an architect charges between 10-25%, now with AI-Assisted user interactive designing, clients can directly be in command and pay
