    If anything needs to be automated, it’s the construction of roadways! I feel that governments take advantage of the slow process that when the entire project is finally finished, it’s time to reconstruct the roadways because of all the damage they’ve endured before completion. It’s like road construction never stops on highways nowadays. We need better materials and a more streamlined process.

      In a fully automated construction, there be no mistakes as humans are the cause of most. AI will recognise input errors and check outputs. Construction of buildings will change to suite automation and factory/3D printing methods. That goes for infrastructure equipment which are installed too. Modifications to products like HVAC, fan coil units, IT, Lighting, Lighting Controls, plumbing, gas, water, sewers etc all designed for automated assembly and installation.

    This is a huge topic! It's good that you brought up job losses as there would be a big outcry from many thousands of people. It seems counterintuitive but the countries with the highest levels of automation have the lowest levels of unemployment. Look at all the jobs lost in agriculture in the past 100 years as we moved towards machines doing the manual labor. In Madagascar 75% of the population works in agriculture while in Germany and the UK it's only 1% due to automation and yet unemployment is not a huge issue in these countries.

  • @kein_indianer

    Transparency and truth build the basement of science and trust. Claiming automation wouldn't substitute jobs is ridiculous. Automation is gonna be inevitable on Moon or Mars. First successful totally automatised test projects were done in the 90th in Japan.
    However, do we really have to reduce the costs by making hundreds of millions of people jobless? New technology creates new jobs, is always said. But never forget the fact, the new jobs are high specialised jobs. You cannot retrain a construction worker to an ai-software engineer.

    I hope that there will be more architects in the future as the automation ease the amount of work needed going into the development and construction, presenting new opportunities for architects to go wilder with designs and making the city skyline vastly more interesting.

    Everyone’s always scared of automation, remember it used to be someone’s job to snuff out street gas lights each day..... jobs change as technology progresses, the trick is to make sure the education system keeps pace.

      Doubt the U.S. Education system is going to react early

    • @razor3106
      @razor3106 4 роки тому +4

      You're not taking into consideration the fact that people that snuffed out street lamps made up a tiny portion of the US workforce, and their wages weren't anything close to middle class, even for the time, whereas the construction industry makes up a huge portion of the work force, employing nearly 10 million people in the US, and workers can expect $17 to $30/hr based on experience putting them well into upper middle class.

      unless AGI take over our need and we all have no job, just UBI and enjoy life

      I’ve heard of this thing called fully automated luxury communism and it’s similar to what you said, basically we automate everything we can enjoy life. However it’s communism and Americans are brainwashed to think any thing related to communism is bad so it’s not likely to come soon

    very interesting especially that labor management is one of the greatest challenges in construction. however, I think you can't replace the reactive decision-making aspect that humans have.

    • @DopeyFish
      @DopeyFish 4 роки тому

      They'll never replace humans until AGI exists (Artificial General Intelligence) as those ones would be at or above humans in decision making. All this automation stuff is just going to be the basics.... and likely will remain that way for at least the next few decades or so. If AGI is ever created, construction will probably be the least of our worries as we would then be inside a technological singularity, where our advancements would far out pace our ability to adapt.

    This is good. My biggest fest is that Autonomous robots will take over construction jobs which is the scariest thought to me. That’s why I’m happy they would take over job gaps that need filling. Thank you so much. Made my fears go away and strengthened the idea of robots and humans working together.
