This was super helpful for a total beginner, thank you!
Tip: Don’t ever angle that spring tool. The head of the spring tool should be pointing directly toward the flat surface you are work on. Otherwise you are risking of scratching the inside of your lug in case you slip. That happened to me😢
If only it was always this easy... Especially when it comes changing in/out bracelets.
There's a special tool for those, I highly recommend them.
@@StuntpilootStef What's that then? You don't mean the tool to remove links do you?
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR I don't know the name for sure , but I think they're called springbar pliers. There's a tool where you can pinch both ends at the same time, like a pair of tweezers with sprinbar tools at each end. Works great.
@@StuntpilootStef I just googled now... Apparently they're just called spring bar tweezers. Thanks for making me awake of these. I definitely need to get some. It'll make it a lot easy.
As a side note, just to let know, I'm doing a watch giveaway on my channel if you want to check it out.
That is another system, bracelets and straps are differerent ! And buy yourself such a kit on AliExpres, 10€, what I did myself already with that, costed me 100€ at a jewellery, and I find this relaxing, satisfying work.
Very well done.
From my experience, using masking tape on the back of the watch lugs can save you from scratching the back of the watch.
Also, I have used the pointed end to compress the spring bR when installing, I find it easier but there is more of a chance for scratches.
Excellent. Very clear and concise. Helped me a lot.
Excellent practical video. Thank You, Ben!
Excellent. Thank you. For those without a fork tip tool, I carefully used a serrated knife. The groove was perfect to press the spring ‘thingy’.
Honestly you can make due with any type of knife.
Cheers mate, very helping video. Beginner and managed to get it changed in 10mins.
Thank you, I finally know what that forked little tool is for that came with my battery replacement kit. I also would've never known to look for the quick-release slides on the new strap. Those slides and your video made this a 2min job - thanks again :)
Thank you soooo much! Needed to replace my watch band and after trying with my frustration I looked it up on YT. You have a new subscriber!
This was really helpful and comprehensive to give confidence, thank you Ben.

Please review the EONIQ Custom Watch series. They offer Miyota automatic movements, customizable watch rotors, Cotes De Geneve, sapphire crystal, open heart watches, skeleton watches, super luminova, small second watches with customized colors, and way more! (They also have quartz if you're not that into mechanical, but why wouldn't you be?)
Thank you for posting this helpful video
Thanks man, didn’t know it was quite easy to do!
Thank you this was very helpful 😀
Thank you - very useful.
Thanks - this video was exactly what I needed. Now im off to buy a spring bar tool🤣
Thanks, Helped a lot
Thanks for the info! Curious: what is the very first watch you show in the video? Thank you!
Well explained, Thank you
Very helpful, thanks!
Very clear video.
Great video. Gonna buy a tool now and change my strap. Thanks
Great info! I have a question: I'm having real trouble finding wrist bands of the correct size for my watch, which is inconveniently at 19mm. Could 18mm bands work for my watch, or would the 1mm difference fuck things up? (I don't suppose sizing up would be wise.) Asking before making a potentially stupid purchase.
Thanks!
Thank you - I just purchased a vintage watch - it had drilled lugs but the spring bar doesn’t seem to budge - in addition- the spring bar doesn’t seem to have that ridge… I’m pretty experienced with strap change outs, but I’m stumped. I guess when the leather strap gets old I may have to cut those derned spring bars and hope that they haven’t become somewhat glued over the years at the lugs - ughs😂
Big thanks !
Thank you with this I save $10 just changed within watching few second
Helpful ☺️
Thank you!
I was at 1:10 My 5 year old stock leather strap was so decrepit I just peeled it off the spring bar when I lifted from the stitching! Had my tool and soft surface all ready, didn't need it :,D
Thanks very much for this. 😀
this was super helpful!
Thanks man, this really helped
Brilliant!
Thank you
Thank you Ben

Thank you so much

🤗 Thank You!
Very well explained.
Thank you ❤️
Thanks bruh .... It helps me a lot
thanks!
Great video
Thanks, liked and subbed.
Thank you sir
Thank you for this video. I would have destroyed my brand new leather band watch had it not been for this. I had no idea it was so easy
Thanks Ben
Thanks
Excellent instruction. I used a thin, serrated knife today; will buy a spring bar tool for next time. Many thanks!
Perfect
Very nice. Although I prefer to have the short part of the strap on the bottom. And I think seiko ships their watches like that
thanks
Cheers, pal.
Very useful thanks. I have the exact same calipers and only just realised how to use them for inside measurements.
Nice video! Literally changed the watch strap on my Seiko 5 an hour ago.
Bought a nice vintage watch but unfortunately it came with a fraying band :( so bad in fact that it flakes off into tiny bits and gets everywhere ): so hopefully this video can help get my watch back on track :)
I know new watch bands come with new spring bars but can the olde ones be reused?
👍🏽thanks
May I ask, can spring bars from the old strap be reused and put into the new strap?
Yes but I'd test them first. Press both ends and if they don't spring back, your going to need replacement ones. But if they do you're good to go
Could you size down a 22mm into a 20mm?
I found that my watch straps fit better with the buckle at the 6 side the other way pushes my watch to the outer side of my wrist?
Was going to comment this. I also find it easier to put on the “wrong” way
🔥🔥
Thank you, no longer must I wear that solar powered Casio that came with a horrible brown croc strap.
Thanks so much !! Almost bought tools but didn't need to ! Much love 💚
Just to clarify, if you have a tiny screwdriver, then compressing the spring bar is easy. Having a spring bar tool isn't a necessity, but if you have one, it is a lifesaver.
Thank you didn't even notice watch had a easy release. Almost bought tools.
Some watch strap already indicated how many mm is the size. You can refer to the back of the strap. No need to measure anymore ☺️
Question! If u have trouble doing it yourself can u take it to a Jewerly store?
Hey Ben, just wondering if you be able to do a top 10 list or from affordable to luxury watches for women or girlfreinds/wife's just and idea.
Hey Ben, what is the make and model of the first watch in the video. Looked very nice
Ben Jones Sternglas Naos Automatik look at Ben’s older videos for the review.
What model is in the video?
Would chance the title to ''Leather'' specifically. Would'v thrown in NATO straps in the video, it's so easy yet some might be looking for that
That one will probably be in its own super short separate video 👍 the way UA-cam search works, they'd probably be searching for a NATO tutorial specifically, you see
