I finally found a black on black F15 50i here in Sacramento that is completely fully loaded ($25k in upgrades) with the brushed aluminum trim. I bought it last Wednesday 🙌🏼
I have been following your vids for a while now. However I still have yet to purchase my x5. This video has definitely helped me narrow the options to look for thank you
I've watched this video (and your channel for years) but this video specifically over 5 times just waiting for my 2018 X5 35i M Sport to be ready. Can't wait 😄
This may be odd but this is my absolute dream car. I have always loved the x5 ever since my dad bought the 2008 4.8i I fell in love. I would do anything to get this suv
Great video, I had just made my decision to start looking to move from my 535i xdrive to a X5 but wanted thorough information and this video was def it!! My european mechanic has been in the game for 30 yrs and says a NO on the 40e, his customers have had plenty issues. Now I can start my search for the X5
This vehicle was awesome, I just purchased a 2018 x5 50xi, it will be delivered to me in 2 days, and after watching this video I am super excited on my selection. Thank-you so much on your knowledge of the BMW.
Great video. As always, very informative. I own a 2014 X5 50i (almost a carbon copy of the one in this video) and love it. Have almost 100k miles with only an injector and coil issue at 60k (covered by warranty). Other than that, hassle free. I purchased the extended warranty when I purchased as a CPO so I have all the preventive maintenance done which I believe is key to longevity. You're right about the a la cart options. I searched for mine for 6 months and bought it on the first visit so I wouldn't lose it. One question, am I the only one who uses Connected Drive? I love the real time traffic feed and the turn by turn directions in my heads up display!
Thank you! I’m glad you found the information useful. That’s also good to hear with your miles you X5 has been pretty reliable. I used the ConnectedDrive with my ‘14. However, it stopped working when my subscription ran out and when I renewed it it never came back online. I was eventually going to upgrade the iDrive system but decided to go for the X5M instead. Haha. There are some useful features in the ConnectedDrive.
Outstanding outline of the options. You are better than 80% of the BMW sale people in explaining the options. I found a fully optioned luxury trim X5 . All packages except I am stuck with the standard sound system and 19 inch wheels. Interestingly the upgraded leather is extended to the console, dash etc. the headliner is upgraded - I did not know that was a option
Awesome video, man. I’m glad you really drove home he point of being flexible with a used car purchase, it is important for managing expectations. Something else to mention if you really find what you like to be prepared to drive to it. My wife and I have a 2015 xDrive35d. My reqs were basically diesel, lighting package, and maybe active cruise control. We found one about 100 miles away and were willing to make the drive to nab it. We were flexible on color, but it just so happened to also have the only reqs my wife preferred, white exterior and terra (brown) interior. We leaned in to the the more truck-like features of the xLine trim with the running boards and plastic trim and got OEM splash guards and an always-showing Draw-Tite aftermarket trailer hitch. It’s a good look on this vehicle.
4 month ago I got my first ever Bimmer and that is what you said and xDrive, don't know the numbers behind. But mine is a M50D M-Sport with 381 hp and a 2014 model. I was happy with it, but I have not see it in 2 week. It's at the workshop with a lot of problems and a bill to seriously cry over. I kinda regret buying it. But also not, because the M-sport looks so mean. specially in all black. I think I was lucky without knowing, much of what you are going thru, I have. So mine must be fully loaded. Can't wait to get mye back again.
M50 D we don’t get that diesel motor here. Yours is like an M Performance Diesel. It’s the same engine as the 35d we have here in the states but the 50d has more power!
Hey! Love your breakdown, way more then the dealer. Looking at a 2016 BMW X5 xDrive50i with 104k. Little more for a 2 year old video. I’ve spooked myself with the V8 engine in these. The N63u2 I believe? Did they fix most of the critical engine issues by this year? Coming from a 2016 Touareg V6. So the cost of maintaining is about the same I believe. Just worried about critical engine issues or other things. It is at a BMW dealership now for sale. Thanks for any help!!
Two years later and your videos still coming in handy!! But how do I find out the the thing or packages the car has with the vin as you explained in the video
Very useful informative content when looking for a preown F15-F16. And you’re right on finding a X5 with all the options you want, because you will spend months trying too find that exact F15 you want. Great job on the video. I'm looking at a 2014 BMW 50i with 85k on it. They want 6k for the warranty.. I know they have internal seal problems, do I need to worry about that? Its a a BMW dealership.. What do you think?
I would have it inspected. Look at the history as far as service goes. 85k isn’t that high for a 2014 but if it wasn’t taken care of or someone else had problems with it dumped it, then you could be in a world of trouble. $6,000 is also a lot to pay for a just in case. How many years is that?
I purchased a Certified pre-owned 2017 bmw x5 sdrive35i that had 27,000 miles on 1/27/2020. I purchased a warranty for 2 years that covers everything. I love how the vehicle drives. I am worried about the maintenance after the warranty expires. I have mainly owned Lexus vehicles over the last several years. The maintenance of the Lexus vehicle will less expensive. As I am getting older (54), I don't need a sports oriented vehicle. I would feel more comfortable in a Lexus. I will be going back to the Lexus vehicles. I will be researching the 2019/2020 Lexus RX 350 F Sport/AWD models. My X5 sDrive 35i has most of the upgraded packages that you mentioned, except for the upgraded video. I should get a premium when trading the vehicle in. Maybe, I should keep this X5? Very thorough video!
I can understand where you’re coming from John. I’d be lying to you if I said you’re going to have trouble free maintenance with the BMW. While Lexus are using their older technology for their motors. The 3.5 V6 has been proven to be reliable. I was in a similar situation years ago. I had a 2010 MB C63. Going through a divorce, I didn’t want to keep that car beyond the warranty period. I was worried with the divorce and other stuff the and last thing I needed was to have a mechanical issue. I traded it in for a Lexus ISF and was still able to have my fun without worry of something going wrong. Car didn’t have a single issue. Once I got back on my feet, I carefully jumped back into German cars. I know it’s probably more than you wanted to hear, but what I’m trying to say is I get it. I know the feeling of getting into your car without ever having to think of what maintenance issue would arise other than oil changes. I believe the 3.5 motors most expensive maintenance is the spark plugs which are due around 60k, other than that. It’s mostly oil changes every 10k miles. I believe the later years, Lexus tuned the RX to accept 87 octane fuel while the competition is requiring 91. I could honestly say you would have no worries with that vehicle. Even my fiancé had an IS350 and it was nothing but oil changes.
@@eddiemcars Thank you for your comments. I have owned 3 Lexus ES vehicles, a GS and a RX. The only issue that I had was the door locks on one of the ES models. The maintenance is less expensive. I can afford the BMW maintenance. I am getting older and I really don’t need the X5. I believe the RX 350 F sport will be good for me. I know it would be boring. When I go and trade in the BMW for the RX, I am not going to “give the vehicle away”. If I don’t get a good trade in value, I will keep the X5. Either way, I will continue to watch your excellent videos.
Great video, thank you. I have a 2014, F15 xdrive 35i petrol, great engine, uses more fuel than I'd like, but understand it's a heavy SAV. Just done 70,000kms , it's the 7 seater model and I've had to change both sides (rear only) of the air suspension system at $1000 nzd per side. They kept going down randomly ( air leak in airbag ) and if you drove on them and destroyed the airbags, plus system, it would of been $3000 nzd per side i was told. So just be aware when buying the 7 seater model and check this.
Here to chime in, U can purchase those yourself and have a shop change the bags for less than 100 dollars. It is a easy to change That is one thing the dealer is a villain for. Charging super big money for something that is basically plug and unplug. I paid $800 for the dealer to change them on my x6 My friend baught his for $100 for his x5 and he watched a small shop changed and charge him $100. Dollars . It was pull out, push on 🤦🏾♂️. Certain things u can do and save money without necessarily having the dealer do it. Like brakes and rotors 🤦🏾♂️, Do not let the dealer screw u. Get slotted an drilled for 300 and a sharp will put them in. For 200. Deals want $1400 smh
Hi I’m looking for a x5 just like your the black one I have a 2016 gmc Denali but I want to trade it in for a x5 with all the options you have on your is exactly what I’m looking for any suggestion where I can find one ? Great video by the way thanks for sharing all these information 👍🏼
If I'm buying one secondhand and don't have the original window sticker, how can I know that it has adaptive m suspension? All I know are the packages...
@@eddiemcars thanks Eddie! Did just that, and it really helped me to pick which x5 to get out of the three I am considering. Gotta have that m adaptive suspension at least right? Haha
Awesome video, and great channel, I watch your videos all the time! I have a fully loaded 2015 X5 50i almost identical to your previous X5. I was interested in coding my LED headlights so they are adaptive. I know you mentioned you had them coded, how did you go about doing that? Is it as simple as using Bimmer Code, or do you need someone to code it for you?
E-Sys was anti dazzle coding during the trailer coding from someone else remotely. However, I reversed it just to see if can code it back in. If successful, I will show a video.
@@eddiemcars Thank you, that would be awesome! That is what I thought, the coding was done remotely. Did you need to pay the coder anything additional for him/her to add that in as a feature?
Sorry if I missed it but what year is yours? And did they not do an LCI type of thing for this model? I want 2017 due to carplay but if that's the only big difference I'd just retrofit haha. Also there are different gauge clusters, one with a full digital display but I can't seem to find which "option" that is. Awesome video man! Thank you for doing this
My 50i was a 2014. You’re correct, there isn’t a “LCI” but BMW did upgrade the iDrive in 2017. You get wireless charging and WiFi hotspot as well. Just something to be aware of. I received an email from ConnectedDrive which is their online service. It will no longer support the older iDrive systems beginning 2022. I’m not sure which ones have the digital displays. I also see them on the 2018 xDrive50i. Either way, thanks for watching! I’m glad you found it helpful!
@@OriginLabR32 you’re welcome! I’m not for sure but I believe the 2017+ has the 4g antenna that won’t fall under the discontinuation of BMW Online Services.
Issues with the F85 seems to be mostly rear airbags, spark plugs/coils, squeaking brakes (no fix for that). Then aside from that you have your normal X5 stuff to watch out for. Sunroof drains, tailgate rattle, excessive oil consumption (they all consume oil but there’s a tiny percentage out there that burns more than normal) I’d look into the history. A scheduled maintenance is fine or maybe one or two unscheduled visits is acceptable. You want to avoid the one that keeps going back to the dealer every couple of months.
This car is the future classic i can bet,the most beautiful design ever, ofcourse after reaching the top design goes down so i dont like the next one at all
I bought mine brand new in 2016 with 90% fully loaded for $95,000.....so out the door is $115,000... I didn't get the 3rd row seat, rear entertainment system, 20" wheels, roof rack..... .. I didn't need features ... mine is a V8 twin turbo with M-Sport package, Executive package, with the lighting package.....air suspension.....etc.....so nice to drive.....fast...too fast.
Great video! Can you tell me what the dimensions of the cargo area are in inches (depth, height, and width)? I'm trying see if my dog crate will fit with the seats up. Thanks!
I had it coded by someone else. Codemycar.com I have successfully reverted it back to normal and coded back with BimmerCode. However once I experiment with another BMW I’ll make a video on it!
Mr Cars, ten days ago I bought a '17 F15 X5 xDrive35i M Sport package mineral white met and black dakota leather without prior watching this video. Sorry.
Hi I have a 2012 x5 50i with the m package, how is it and what issue do I need to now , I've install 2 oil catch can so far and its doing a very good job in separating the water and excess oil , whatvdo you thing
The 2012‘s 50i are notorious for valve stem seals going bad. I know of people who have had entire engines replaced by BMW with little or no extra cost. You could check with BMW and see if anything is covered under the customer care package.
Hi , there will be a separate control in the rear to control the heated seats. Same place the heatng/cooling controls are .( 4 zone control for people in the back seats perhaps, but 2 heated seat buttons will be there at least)
All X5 comes standard with backup camera whether x35 or 50 - there was never an F15 x35 Without Backup Camera, however NOT all come with Front parking sensors or 360 degress camera, They all comes with heated seats, but NOT with heated steering wheels, keyless entry is also as an option.
Prior to ‘18 models before rear view camera were standard, F15/16 35i/d variants did not come standard with rear backup camera(3AG). Only the sensors were standard. You would have to get the driver assistance package (ZDA) $1400 at that time of order or add-on for $400 separately. Comfort Access was included in the Executive package (ZEC)for the 50i and Premium package(ZPP) for the 35i/d models. You are correct about the heated seats and steering wheel. Maybe 🤔 I didn’t mention that in the video.
I finally found a black on black F15 50i here in Sacramento that is completely fully loaded ($25k in upgrades) with the brushed aluminum trim. I bought it last Wednesday 🙌🏼

It was pull out, push on 🤦🏾♂️.
Certain things u can do and save money without necessarily having the dealer do it.
Like brakes and rotors 🤦🏾♂️,
Do not let the dealer screw u.
Get slotted an drilled for 300 and a sharp will put them in. For 200.
Deals want $1400 smh

Combined 320hp and peak 600nm - top end 500nm of torque
Thank you, I was upset he left out 40e specs
Hey now! I mentioned the 40e!
I’ve had the 50i M-Sport for almost two years: no clue I had steering wheel/rear seat warmer, headlight washer, etc. 🤣
How to get the inner headlights( inner hi beams) to go on
That’s only for the full LED. The Xenon equipped models don’t have the a bulb
Hi I’m looking for a x5 just like your the black one I have a 2016 gmc Denali but I want to trade it in for a x5 with all the options you have on your is exactly what I’m looking for any suggestion where I can find one ? Great video by the way thanks for sharing all these information 👍🏼
It will take time. Do you want a 50i or 35i?
@@eddiemcars 50i is the plan i live here in California as well close to Berkeley area and I can’t find any close by like I want it
My SDrive 35i has back up camera and most of these features and it’s 2015
Nice video. Was thinking about doing something similar then saw this in my feed. Lol. Will try to do something with a different slant maybe ... 🤔
Go for it! Everyone out there is different and some may not prefer my style and like yours better!
very detailed information , thank you for this video
If I'm buying one secondhand and don't have the original window sticker, how can I know that it has adaptive m suspension? All I know are the packages...
I would use the mdecoder.com and run the VIN.
@@eddiemcars thanks Eddie! Did just that, and it really helped me to pick which x5 to get out of the three I am considering. Gotta have that m adaptive suspension at least right? Haha
@@eddiemcars picking up my 50i on Friday 🙏❤️ already got liquimoly flush, oil, and ceratec ready to go haha
Awesome video.
Congrats with F85
Thanks a lot! More videos with the F85 to come!
Very helpful Eddie! Any update on the 40e market?
The 40e market is limited. I rarely come across one used and when I do, it's sells pretty quickly. I’d like to try one out for a day.
I park my X5 in my living room and soft close doors does help me not wake up my kids at night
😂
Great video love these details.
If you check one of his other videos about coding i'm sure he mentions that you can use bimmercode to code that in.
@@tevasubagelis9757 Thanks a lot! Let me check his other videos
Shieet ... Richard Jefferson doing car review now. Hahaha just kidding. Great review man!
😂
Excellent video. Thanks!!!
Glad you liked it!
Which model and year would you say was the most reliable and easy to work on yourself in this gen? I’m trying to upgrade from a 2002 3.0 X5
The F15 gasoline ones are easy for me. I can’t speak on the diesel ones.
Only problem is turn special if you parking not inaf turn.
Great video! Helped me a whole lot. Subscribing 💪🏻
Thank you so much!
@@eddiemcars Thanks for responding so quickly, and thanks for the heads up! Good to know
@@OriginLabR32 you’re welcome! I’m not for sure but I believe the 2017+ has the 4g antenna that won’t fall under the discontinuation of BMW Online Services.
Thank you for the video 👌
Welcome 😊
I want to know if the windshield have the dot matrix in between the glass or on the windshield
It's on the inside of the windshield

i'm looking at a 2015 msport without sport seat?
Hey, I’m looking to buy a 2016 X5M with 33k miles on it. It looks to be in very good condition, is there any issues I should look for?
Issues with the F85 seems to be mostly rear airbags, spark plugs/coils, squeaking brakes (no fix for that).
Then aside from that you have your normal X5 stuff to watch out for. Sunroof drains, tailgate rattle, excessive oil consumption (they all consume oil but there’s a tiny percentage out there that burns more than normal)
I’d look into the history. A scheduled maintenance is fine or maybe one or two unscheduled visits is acceptable. You want to avoid the one that keeps going back to the dealer every couple of months.
@@eddiemcars Thanks, really appreciate it
This car is the future classic i can bet,the most beautiful design ever, ofcourse after reaching the top design goes down so i dont like the next one at all
I bought mine brand new in 2016 with 90% fully loaded for $95,000.....so out the door is $115,000...
Thanks!
Sorry for the late reply. I can check on that in a few days. I’m away from home at the moment.
FWIW I fit my dog crate inside perfectly fine at it’s 21” H
30” L
19” W
I'm curious how you got your headlights coded? We have a 2015 X5 xDrive 50i with the LED headlights and would like to code ours.
I had it coded by someone else. Codemycar.com
I have successfully reverted it back to normal and coded back with BimmerCode. However once I experiment with another BMW I’ll make a video on it!
Mr Cars, ten days ago I bought a '17 F15 X5 xDrive35i M Sport package mineral white met and black dakota leather without prior watching this video. Sorry.
Darn! Just missed ya! 😂
Congrats! It sounds like you did very well!
@@eddiemcars yeah buddy it's my second X5 and I'm loving it! 😍 the gf loves it too!!
Can you compare the suspensions between the 50i and the M?
Maybe I can do a video comparing the two cars.
I have roughly same amount of seat time between the two now.
@@eddiemcars that would be great. Especially what made you upgrade? I am trying to decide between the two right now.
Does the M sport package make it too stiff or still very easy and comfortable?
I think M sport with adaptive suspension, gives you flexibility to make it comfortable or soft depending on your taste.
Wish bmw kept the diesel lineup
Great information
Still battling between f15 and f16. In my country f15 is alittle bit cheaper like 3500usd cheaper. But i still cant decide between the two
You can’t go wrong with either one. The f15 will be more practical, and F16 will be more sporty.
Go for the f15, its more practical. The f16 is just flatter and more expensive. I have never recret the f 15
All this time I was not aware that it was the x50i
I’m looking to get a used xdrive50i. Any concern if it’s between 60-80k miles?
These engines are reliable! If anything, I would look into the maintenance history and make sure it was well maintained.
What about the 40D or 40I?
Not for the F15/F16
Probably not in the USA but I’m in Europe and currently in the process of changing from the X3 35d to the X5 40d, which is an F15 2018 model
Wait I got the x drive 40d with the m sport package
I should have added these models are US specific.
I can't find an F15 X50i that's in good condition for less than $28. If they'd come down to about $20 i'd cop one.
Hope you found one. The prices keep climbing!
You can get one but I'll have high miles
thanks for video..
How do you heat up the rear seat? I meant to ask that.
Hi , there will be a separate control in the rear to control the heated seats. Same place the heatng/cooling controls are .( 4 zone control for people in the back seats perhaps, but 2 heated seat buttons will be there at least)
the link to check the VIN?
www.mdecoder.com
Very well explained.
Thank you! Thank you for watching!
Did you sell this black X5 already?
Yes I did
Is the x50i reliable at high mileage?
I think if you do regular maintenance they should last you for many years. Each car will develop problems eventually.
How do I add a photo. If I can. Im. new.
Hi, welcome! I don’t think it’s a possibility to add photos in the comment section.
So you're saying it's a V6.
😠😂
Word of advice: stay away from the V8s
I love the V8’s
