Oh, this absolutely! I know the AON people are working as hard as they can so absolutely no slight to them at all but maybe Paizo can give them some pre-release time to work on future books? Don
@@slystrategistPaizo in fact get Archives of Nethys the books early, it's more just an issue of that they really only had the means to like, keep up with the normal schedule at best anyway and there is amounts of stuff that needs to be done to allow seamless flipping between Remaster and Premaster rules, what when combined with things like this being done on top of people's normal work & unexpected life events being a thing.... frankly unless Paizo literally gave them the manuscript when it was still getting finished up I don't think there was way long delays could have been avoided. Also know that AoN did say they're planning on training more people up to help out once there's actual time to do that, so luckily even something as big an unexpected as this happens again, things shouldn't be quite as bad.
I like the remaster but i cant wait for the champion rework as i have been frustrated with how champions are in the game currently. I hope we get some more freedom with the abilities and arent locked into being evil or good or whatever Nice video c:
Keep hoping Paizo will announce a remaster Beginner Box, as the current version of the BB has several "features" that are affected, or even no longer available, in the remaster rules.
The remaster (PF2r) is great. It is a good improvement. My group is primarily playing PF2e rules and I’m added PF2r rules as I get comfortable with them.
I enjoy that PathFinder Core (PFc) is compatible with PF2. Those characters holding onto the past can continue with their favorite strategies and new characters get to enjoy knowing the latest styles.
The simple fact that only HALF of the remastered books have been released means that I haven't used any of it. I am not going to play a hybrid system and may not even upgrade when the remaster is fully out. Classic PF2 works just fine.
I do understand that and thankfully it's certainly an option! I kinda' decided to jump in and I'm enjoying it but there are certainly some hiccups I've come across along the way! Don
Since we started just before remaster the new rules didn't really make that much of a difference to us. We don't know the original rules well enough to matter. Overall I like the rules themselves. The books themselves are easier to use. I should have rebuilt the Foundry characters from scratch once Remaster hit as I've had a few issues with that. As you said looking up rules, names, etc. can be a pain between the Archives, the Legacy books and the Remaster books.
Reading some of the comments I've receives so far, this sounds like the best way to go through the remaster! One of the commentors (@hardbushido) mentioned that there is a remaster doc in the settings of Foundry (Settings->Pathfinder Second Edition->Remaster Changes) and it is actually fantastic! Even if your not playing in Foundry, it might be the best document that I've seen for name changes and I'll be suing it every session! I love this community! Don
I may put a longer version of this comment in the Discord, but the tl;dr is: your comments and my own experience w/ PF2Remaster kind of remind me of the change from Python 2 to Python 3. Python is my primary coding language. When Python 3 was released (it broke compatibility in some significant ways with Python 2), there was a period where people had to live/work with BOTH versions. They were VERY similar/identical in some spots, VERY different in others. I'm a new player, not a GM, so I haven't had to deal with it too much But we just leveled up characters in the game I'm in and did some Remaster switching too. So, deciding what to do next with your character can be a bit tricky when they go from Level 3 Legacy -> Level 4 Remaster(sorta). There are also decisions to be made around theorycrafting new character builds/ideas. Do I go ALL REMASTER and ignore a lot of prior content? How much history/prior content do I want to try to include? A lot of small things to keep in mind at certain points. Overall, I like the Remaster, but since it's also my first real "deep dive" into PF2e, there's a lot of PF2e Legacy stuff I'm looking at too. 🤔
Heya Kojo! You're definitely right... it's a lot different than a new edition in that the line isn't so clear cut. I like the programming reference 😁 Don
We integrate both currently. The build-up toward something at apothic levels is influencing the foundation of reality. All will come to a head in a causal loop with a deity's demise (deicide). By then the remaining PFc editions should exist & most changes integrated into Archives and FoundryVTT. The delay also gives us time to relearn the PathFinder foundational ruleset. Cause, after that time, the Mandela-Effect comes to Golarion as the... 〔Deseased Deity's Name〕-Effect. Only Player Characters (& very rare NPCs) recall PF2 versions existed.
I started playing PF2 with the release of the remaster (I learned the pre-remaster rules from the Humble bundle that I picked up, and waited about 6 months before starting a game with my group). We are a bunch of D&D grognards (starting with 1E). I had known about PF for years, but wasn't able to convince my group to give it a try until after the OGL issue. I've always felt that 5E was heavily imbalanced in favor of the players and heard that PF was more challenging. So a couple of weeks after the remaster release I ran Menace under Otari for my group, and they blew through it like the monsters were standing still. I even increase the number of monsters and their hp and AC, at the second session, and the players still didn't have much of an issue. So, I guess I don't see where PF2 is different than 5E in that regard. P.S. The unlimited "charges" of the healers tools is another thing that makes PF2 easier for the players than I expected. Especially since everyone can get the medicine skill and use the kits.
It's hard for me to compare as I never played 5E ( I stopped at 3E). I will say that the beginning fights are usually pretty easy on purpose and the general difference in fight strength between D&D and P2E is that you should be totally healed and ready between fights in P2E (it's why healing is so easy to come by with Treat Wounds between encounters). You also might just have a great party with great chemistry! You could also change the template for the monsters until you get to the more difficult fights by changing the monsters template to Elite. There is Elite, Normal, and Weak templates for creatures. Here are a couple of links that might help, I know you're playing a set adventure but it might give you ideas to make the combats more difficult. Encounter design: 2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=969 and as an example, here is a link to a Mitflit with the Elite Template (the template can be changed in the first block of text in the creature description) - 2e.aonprd.com/Monsters.aspx?ID=245&Elite=true Don
※ Medicine Skill ※ Remember a character may only have one attemp made per hour to Treat Wounds. It is the patient delayed, not the one treating the injuries. If the attempt succeeds or fails, the injured patient must wait 50 minutes before another attempt. Even if every character possess the training and tools, they all will fail if attempting before the delay expires.
My one biggest issue so far is AON not being updated. My players use it all the time and we end having to look through the books. I get it, first world problems, it just slows us down as we have to check the pdfs.
I feel this as well, I'm so used to just popping over to AoN and looking stuff up! I know the AoN people are working as hard as they can so absolutely no slight to them at all though! Don
Love it, basically everything improved or stayed the same. Only complaint i can even attempt to make is the base class archetypes (mostly fighter) feel like they got their thunder stolen by ones that came out later. Would've loved to see that changed but as far as what they actually did, it was all improvements (apart from some names that was basically out of their control lol)
I can absolutely see this, especially the fighter which really received the fewest changes and is already remastered so they are what they are. I am looking forward to Player Core 2 to see the rest! Don
I love your positive spirit, Don. Haven’t played the remaster myself yet, but I do wonder if it isn’t easier to start at level one vs converting a campaign in progress.
Oh, 100% this would be easier and we definitely bit off a bit much by converting at Level 6! I wouldn't necessarily recommend it but It has been fun though overall. Don
5:40 · Mage Hand My understanding is Mage Hand can still be used unless: · the magic item granting Mage Hand exists in the Remaster. · the item is named the same · the PathFinder Core (PFc) version does NOT grant Mage Hand When de a ling with changes: · Name Change is for something new in PFc. · Though the new iteration, the PF2 version is available. 【House Rule: + Increase rarity trait. + e.g. Common bump to Uncommon; Uncommon is now Rare; Rare & Unique add *】 Description:/Trait Changes: · e.g. Same name betwixt PF2 & PFc · The PFc version replace the PF2 version (e.g. treat as Errata) 【House Rule: + PF2 versions exists with Rare trait added + Must use complete version + Can only use PFc or PF2 version】
It definitely can be used! For a little more detail, this was in foundry and our settings. I was trying to find the spell to put into my spell list and I was unable to find it. The big problem was really our approach in foundry. Don
My group isn't using the Remastered rules yet because all the rules are not out yet. and we don't want some classes using the remastered rules and others not using the remastered rules.
Quick tip: in foundry under the settings tab there is a "remaster doc" that shows all the name changes for items, spells, etc.
That is a fantastic tip and I didn't know that. That's going to be super helpful!
Don
The only thing that is a little frustrating is the long delay between core and core 2.
That is definitely one I'm looking forward to coming out!
Don
So true! I feel like we only have half the Remaster which kinda dampens it despite how great it is!
One thing I've definitely missed is AoN. I wish they'd work closer with them to have the future books on the website earlier, ideally on release

Should they have renamed "Mage Hand" to:
· "Mental-Hand"
· "Mind Hand"
· "Hand of the Mind"
Is there a list somewhere of spells that have changed name (or even disappeared) in the remaster?
The only One that I've seen that is reasonably complete is the Remaster Changes in Foundry for an actual list.
