I calculated using the kinematic equations that the final velocity of the ball right before it hit the safe was approximately 27 meters per second or about 61 miles per hour. I also calculated that the displacement in the y direction of the spiked wrecking ball right before it hit the safe is approximately 38 meters or about 125 feet.
That thing is smashing into a target with 160,380J. That's about 10x as much energy as the infamous .50 BMG cartridge can produce. That is some serious destructive energy.

In 2013 COD Ghosts was released featuring an orbital kinetic weapons system. It seemed a bit far fetched. Seeing that ball hit the sand from a mere 45m demonstrates that maybe Ghosts isn't so outlandish.
Such systems have been considered by many militaries and this demonstrates exactly what the thought process behind it is, the shockwave is the damage producing effect. Truly mind blowing.

Instead of just ice made of water only, try freezing a large block of ice with straw or some other fibrous material (bits of hemp rope) frozen inside. Adding a mixed material to the ice makes it incredibly strong compared to ice alone.
Hope the inside walls of the old safe doesn’t have asbestos in it. Depends how old they are but it was used in the past for fire resistance etc.
I just think Spike Tyson fits more for a giant spiky ball but I’d be satisfied with Geronimo

Like medieval flail, the big impact of the spikes is not just their sharpness : they make sure the ball don't bounce around and just deliver maximum energy from its fall.
Also its effectiveness is attributed to the fact that most to all of the energy of the falling ball, is concentrated onto the spike on impact. Its like how you can literally punch through cold thick steel with nothing but a hardened sharp spike and a hydraulic press.
