    Okay the real question is: Can you tell at what point I took a 2 hour break to go check out the Northern Lights?! ✨😂 Had to stop halfway and come back and finish filming this until 3am.

      @@ByMeMonique Ah mann! Yess I found out about them while filming this, and a friend picked me up halfway to go see them. Was going to keep that whole interlude in the video but it was already getting long. 😅

    So interesting, I recently announced that I'm taking a break from UA-cam (but continuing my art membership)... and some of the comments from my audience (minority thankfully) were wild - along the lines of I've forgotten where I came from, I'm ill-treating my subscribers by leaving, I'm already making SO much money from ads and being greedy by leaving UA-cam etc. (I'm making £60/month). And have been creating UA-cam videos while working as a doctor for 3.5 years.
    There's also this narrative that creators shouldn't accept sponsorships, talk about money and that gifted collaborations are enough/people are ungrateful if they expect payment on top of receiving all these supplies etc. some of these views echoed by creators - and I agree with you and have echoed the opinion that people forget their privilege . One must be financially privileged to be able to work on their UA-cam channel, for over 40 hours - for free / no money / just art supplies, and that is sadly not a luxury we all have.
    Great video as always x

      Pheww thank you SO much for sharing this and I’m sorry you’ve received those kinds of comments.
      Yesss the comments I see all the time about how people should just be happy with Adsense is WILD-and it goes to show that people do NOT know the reality. There are just so many assumptions about this world because it’s so public and the top percent skew the reality, and not enough people talk about it…probably like you say, because it isn’t received well by the audience.
      I hope you find balance in your break, and so proud of you!!

    Hi Kaya! Loved this video discussion. I’m not sure if you already made a video like this or not but could you create a video discussing how to navigate brand collaboration contracts? As a smaller creator I’m still new to learning how to negotiate usage rights, brands suggesting perpetuity, etc.?
    Btw love your channel! 😊

    Yep … my inner thoughts published online lol … I definitely have the privilege of knowledge from being behind the scenes with bigger creators and entrepreneurs when I was serving them via my digital marketing agency ✨

    Great insights to the kinds of privilege people don't see. On another note. Mr and my wife moved from the GTA because it's expensive. We now live in a smaller up and coming town and was able to buy a mobile home.
    Plus we both work from home so we didnt have to live in the GTA.

      Oooh I love that--yess moving is definitely something a lot of us city-folk have to consider. 🤣 But it's extra hard if a lot of the joys you have are connected to the city. I have a friend who tested it out for a bit but was miserable (she still had to commute though, and all friends and family were in the city so it was really isolating). My husband and I have said if we are moving, we are moving FAR away to make it a whole different experience. 😂

    I agree with most of what you said in this video. The one thing I disagree with is privilege affecting whether or not someone turns down a brand deal that’s not aligned with their values. I know you added a little nuance to this in the video but I believe privilege doesn’t have anything to do with it. It’s more about a person’s morals, values, and boundaries. There are some companies I won’t work with because their products, services, and/or company values don’t align with my morals and values. Although I’m “losing out on money/opportunities” by not working with them, I’m okay with that because I’m not willing to compromise on certain things. Also, I think it’s important for creators to have an abundance mindset (this is something I’m working on) so it can be easier for us (including the less privileged ones) to turn down brand deals and opportunities that aren’t a “heck yes” for us. What are your thoughts on that?

    • @CreatingwithKaya
      @CreatingwithKaya  4 місяці тому +3

      Ooh yess, I definitely wanted to drive the nuance of this home more... That being said, I do still think privilege can affect people's moral decisions and mess with their boundaries (not saying that it SHOULD, or that IT IS OKAY, but I moreso mean that if someone truly was faced with starving or caving against their morals... I think a lot do cave).. but of course a brand deal usually isn't **that do or die**, and you could also argue that maybe their morals weren't that strong on that topic to begin with if they work for a brand that goes against what they _say_ their morals are?
      I also definitely agree with the abundance mindset, I don't use those words but I touch on the concept briefly in my 'things I say no to' video. There really is SO much opportunity out there, even when it feels like there isn't, and taking things on that aren't a "heck yes" can not only damage our brands but our mental state. 😅 But that being said, I just think it's harder for some people to get in the headspace than others based on their lived experiences. For example, I wouldn't necessarily go to say a single parent struggling to put food on the table and tell them to turn something down that **I would turn down** and just have an abundance mindset.. (Definitely not saying that's what you're saying, just expanding on the idea!) 😂
      Haha sorry I love this topic--lots of thoughts!

      @@CreatingwithKaya Yes, I agree with your point that it can be harder for people who are struggling to pay for basic necessities and people who don’t have a village or emergency fund to fall back on during hard times. There’s a lot of nuance that can be added to this topic. It also shows why a lot of people say to not quit your full-time job until you can make your side hustle/business your new full-time job (and even then have a substantial emergency fund set up so you don’t struggle when things slow down in your business). It’s advice I agree with and disagree with because there’s nuance to that too, lol. Anyways, you did a great job with opening up a conversation on this important topic. Hopefully more creators will be open to discussing it too. 🫶

    • @CreatingwithKaya
      @CreatingwithKaya  4 місяці тому +1

      OOoh I'm with you on the quitting part too--both on the agree and disagree. 😂 I want to revisit that topic too, I waited to quit my day job until I had matched my day job's income, and I also don't have kids that depend on me or anything so again--definitely a privileged position to take that leap. BUT people can also feel stuck in fear, unafraid to ever make that jump.
      Haha I appreciate you--that's all I really want for this channel, is to just be able to have civil conversations about the MANY sides to this thing. It's a lot more complex than people usually portray it. 😅
