  • 5 cosmetic scratches to the bike, and a twisted gear lever. 4 months of it being in storage waiting for someone to assess it and order parts, and now the 3rd party insurer wants to wipe their hands of the claim and call it a write-off

Had exactly the same scenario when someone drove into my car nearly 20 years ago. Fairly minor repairs took months and ended up costing the other driver’s insurance company about £30k because of the courtesy car. I see the playbook hasn’t changed in that time. Madness.

  • @W56Scribes

Crazy. I had a similar thing with a car. The other insurers wouldn’t pay for my courtesy car as then, apparently, it becomes MY problem and I have to take them to court on behalf of my insurer. Told them to get scraped. Didn’t hear anything back ever… 😅

You have to tell me more! I think my insurance has had the claim company say that the 3rd party don’t want to pay for the claim.and it is now off to court. Don’t think I need to do anything but just scary!

That's crazy! They basically held your bike to ransom and charging her company for it all for some minor cosmetic damage.

I have the same problem as you . A woman cut me up, and her insurance is paying for the damage. My bike is not run in either so I’ve lost 4month riding. No I did not want the loan bike. Damage costs estimate is £4000 for the parts. God alone knows what the total bill will be? . I also must wait till November for it to be repaired. Fingers crossed. I think you and i are with the same well known insurer.? Good luck my friend😢

I'm surprised you got the bike back as 4th dimension are known to scrap bikes and just hand you the money. Which they then sell the bike on for even more by doing minimal repairs
They take months to do anything to bump up storage and hire bike costs

yep, pretty much for paint repairs they tried to call it a write off and offer me £7000 for my new bike which was £13000, 3 weeks before the bump.

    Nonsense.
New can, maybe a new heatshield (but you might be able to tap it into shape with a hammer) some metal polishing compound here and there. Bit of paint on the stand. New mirror.
Unless the can is actually dented you can probably just buff the scratches out.
    £100 and some elbow grease.

I'm in the middle of the USA, ie nowhereville. Every scratch on those pipes could be bead blasted out at any of the 4 shops in my town, giving the pipes a totally new and consistent finish in one single afternoon. Any decent body shop could do it for $250 to $300. If that's how things are in Scotland, ie everyone passing the buck and not knowing wtf they are doing, dude, just move, gtfo of there. If your insurance cos there are trying to be Queen of the f'n dressing room on things they have no clue about - get away from them, literally put some distance between you and their dumb asses.
