I was fortunate enough to see them live from '84 and on all those great tours. Rage was incredible. Livecrime was even better. Building Empires was the best I have ever seen them perform.
I was there!!! Man...Geoff is a true legend. What an awesome performance. And he is comming back to Brasil in 2022 after all those years! What a priviledge to have known Queensryche in this crap consumeristic matrix of fake culture. Time flies... What is real is always and forever real.
People don't realize just how much Heavy Metal music has been appreciated in Latin America for decades and decades. Bruce Dickinson said, "I wish we had known just how much we are loved here, and we would've come play for these wonderful fans a long time ago". Hell, in Latin America Heavy Metal is way more popular than Europe and the USA!
I don't give a crap about what happened between them. Neither should any "fans". That's their business and you don't know what really went on neither do you personally know the people involved so lay off the hate. All I know is at 53 years old Geoff still has an insanely awesome voice. It's not all about range and he still has that if he pushes himself. Regardless of what you think of the actual person, the talent is undeniable.
You need to hear Todd Latorre do this better than Tate can now or equal but just a few years behind the man new singer Todd Latorre kicks ass pull up blood of the Levant by Queensryche... but no one can top Geoff Tate back in his day
Awesome band, always will be, particularly the original lineup with Tate and DeGarmo. Should've been bigger than Metallica (just personal taste, calm down please, hehe...) in my humble opinion, fantastic songwriting, intelligent lyrics and great stage presence. I don't care that Tate can't hit those notes anymore, everyone ages, he's still a legend.
It's nice to see Tate still has some support. IDGAF about what he may or may not have done. I'm listening to his voice, not his personality. I'm not his friend, I don't know the guy. If he was a mass murderer I'd still listen to his music cause it's music and the guy has talent. Not to mention all the blind hate is uncalled for regardless. I've seen child molesters get less hate than Tate's been getting lately.
Well said, i say that about paul stanley and don dokken, they are in their 60s and they are singing songs they wrote in their 20s. Great to see some ppl understand how the human body works lol
In the 80s I had the hair of a rock star... It was a Night Ranger, Rick Springfield, Martin Riggs combo.... Flash forward to 2021... Bald and shave 🪒 it slick.... Dam you cruel fate!!! I miss my mullet!!!!
I like this pitched down version (G minor from the original A minor). 🤩🤩 Sounds moodier and more introspective this way. Tate doesn't need to hit those other notes anymore. It's perfect just like this. 🖤🖤
I seen them at park City Utah (wolf mountain ) chills ran up and down my spine 4th row right in the middle I was rocking out the drummer tried throwing me a drum stick 4 times, best band live I will never forget that concert bad ass! better than studio! Take hold.
Bruce never had the range that Tate had. Tate was almost too good and he left it all out there. I've seen both since '83 and no one even touched Tate. Bruce on the other hand seems almost better than some of those years in the mid to late '80s. He was really doing his best back then and says so himself. Today, Bruce is awesome and is definitely keeps himself in shape. He is all over the stage and has a ton of energy.
There were probably many other singers of that talent - just none that fronted a band that wrote songs memorable enough to be watching video of 30 years later.
They are playing this song a whole step down from the original recording. The studio version is in the key of A and here they are in the key of G. MUCH easier to sing tuned down a whole step.
He brought his head voice way down to his chest voice, so he lost his voice over time, taught by his vocal coach Maestro Kyle. It's not his fault lmao. He still sounds hella sexy and clean. The live version you all have seen was from 1984, this is 2012. What do you expect?!
Let me be clear: I respect Tate for what he did over the years for Queensryche and the world of rock/metal in general. Nobody can ever take that away from him. However, over the last several years he has tarnished the legacy he helped establish. Bringing in outside writers to compose watered-down adult contemporary yacht rock, brokering deals that would have only benefited him, spitting on bandmates, insulting fans, etc...he deserves all the criticism he gets.
Great song, fantastic vocals, what more do you want? I was genuinely excited at the second verse where Geoff needs to hit the stupidly high note - it is my favourite bit of the song - and he still reached that, and I found myself cheering almost like when Mario Götze scored the World Cup winning goal ;-)
Dont get me wrong, Tate is one of my favs, Todd and I used to sit around singing and saying how great a singer he was, I just dont think he still has the range. Hes not in the band anymore not cause hes sucks, but for what the other issues were, Todd will do great in his place and has always been a fan of Tates. His ego just got way out of hand. Todd can sing and is a great guy, he will do all of us fans proud.
Come on guys. Geoff must be in his 50's. Please cut him a little slack. I was in several rock bands in the eighties and trust me - aging is not kind. I'm going bald (My name is Rob, not Jen - this is my wifes email account) and I've gained a hundred pounds and my teeth are falling out. Back in the eighties, I was the cats ass. HOT! I could get any chick I wanted. I had long ratted hair - weighed 135 pounds with a six pack - beautiful white teeth. I had life by the balls! Then I got old. I still love watching Geoff because it brings back good memories. I know he's not as good as he used to be, but at least he's the original singer - and that means a lot to me. I would rather go see a band with the original singer (Even if he's not as good as he used to be) rather than go see a band with an imposter singer. That's just me. Because I know that the voice I'm hearing, (even though not is good) is the original voice I heard back when I listened to the album. It's a cool feeling. I saw him back in 1985. AWESOME!
His voice is actually better than it was a few years ago, although still not equal to his prime. It's been slowly getting better since he stopped smoking.
Hey he's doing not too bad for his years. Coverdale has lost it but he can still sing too. These guys should be praised for standing up to the plate and marking their place in our rock lives...
Dean, yes. I agree there is a richness in the voice that is lost with the new singer. I have a good friend that told me that Queensryche has run its course and I should be happy with what they've done with Geoff. The early stuff Ryche had done was soooo good, however, I just can't help but want more of that. It seemed that after Mindcrime, I wasn't hearing the same intensity out of Geoff any longer. His range is a tough one to maintain, I know. I just wish I could've got more out of him.
watch?v=QanVuQIXU5s A decade prior, and what a difference. Back then, Tate actually put forth a respectable effort to sing the song, and it sounded great. That's all I'm asking for these days. Not to sound like he did at age 25, but to at least not sound like he's yawning his way through the songs.

Brazil has the best audiences hands down.
And Argentina
I was there!!!!
Have you seen Iron Maiden perform there? The crowds are freaking awesome!!
7 years later and I'm still watching this video, I love this version so much.
He doesn't need to hit those high notes anymore, he's already did it! Tate is the man!

I read your comment before the video started playing.
