3:13 Then I guess you are extremely lucky. I returned 2 PS5 Pro’s because of their loud coil whine… the 3rd one still has it but isn’t as bad as the other two were. Still audible despite sitting about 10-12 feet away from the console. Personally, very disappointed with the poor quality of the power supply causing the coil whine to be so loud on a $700 device. Not to mention there are Reddit forums talking about how loud the coil whine is on their PS5 Pro’s and how many other users have returned/swapped theirs.
Interesting John I now have a pro and the original 5 definitely the pro as a slightly louder cooling fan sound. Its not a distraction either. Thanks for the video.
Maybe it was the power supply? I thought my disc drive was being loud as well. After adjusting the screws (on the disc drive) the noise was still there. So after cleaning the fan and running a test with it disconnected the coil whine was still there when playing a digital game. At least in my case it appears to be the power supply, which is annoying but looks to be normal after some research.
Interesting video. I’ve had a launch day PS5 and then two different PS5 Pro consoles. The first PS5 Pro was 10dB louder than my launch console (twice as loud) with INSANE coil whine on Silent Hill 2. I got a second Pro because of this. That too has very noticeable whine on SH2, but is less loud than my first Pro by around 5dB. My first PS5 Pro was Foxconn; second was Delta. It’s not just quieter, but the tone of the fan is different too. What I will say to anyone who hasn’t had a Pro or had a chance yet, they are not quiet. They are louder than they should be in all honesty. It is disappointing, but thankfully my second one is better than my first!
And what did you measure from what distance and positon? Vertical my measurments are much better on the Pro somehow. I extra bought a device to measure. I had 3 units at home. I think I try a 4th then it's 1 from a store and 3 from an online shop. 2 I send back. If I pay so much for this thing then it doesn't need to sound annoying with strange side tones. My 2nd unit is somewhat acceptable.
I wish Sony would use a unified design for their cooling. Because the use 4 different manufacturers for the fans, it’s a complete lottery if you get a quiet one or loud one. Irritating.
Damn I'm lucky I have the 1200 model and the pro now and they're both nearly silent except the pro does spin up just a bit on Ragnarok and horizon so far.
Thanks 4 those tests. My launch PS5 is dead silent whatever I play but PRO went louder when playing an indie game. Man 4 that price, why not better cooling???
I have it with the disc drive add on, when playing blu ray disc the drive spins faster than my launch disc version, the pro vibrates on the table and is so loud spinning movie disc that I can hear it from another room humming.

I've been comparing my launch PS5 with Nidec? (the "worst" fan of the three) to my Pro with Foxconn fan. Both are I would say not bad, not great. Both have same amount of coil whine. Not too distracting but can be heard easily to where I play. Pro is slightly louder, but the type of noise is slightly more pleasant. You know how the Nidec sounds. But sometimes the Pro also sounds a lot like it. Without game running both are very quiet, but Pro is actually hard to hear at all. OG still makes that quite annoying noise, but it's very quiet. I can't imagine so many people having completely quiet consoles. Are your fans working? You can't hear anything in silent place? My Pro is not silent at all, the fan noise can be easily heard all the time while playing anything and sometimes it's a bit too much. Also I haven't even played anything for a longer time yet, just very short sessions. The fan in both consoles goes to full speed pretty much the time any game is launched, be it text based PS4 game or heavy PS5 Pro game. So maybe Pro (or OG, not sure if it did) goes even louder. The amount of coil whine depends on game a bit more, but it's there.
It varies from console to console so while this test is interesting, unfortunately it's not scientific or accurate in any way. For example, your base PS5 clearly sounded the worst with what sounded like coil whine, but the other two were ok. Whereas my base PS5 was super quiet and my Pro has bad coil whine. It's simply luck of the draw.
My 4 months old ps5 slim makes same amount of sound like shown in video. But in the first few weeks I couldn't hear any sound. Only recently I am hearing sound. Is this normal?

Yea my standard ps5 stay quiet even with the fan on
What sony TV model you using
Hey i have a normal ps5 and it doesnt make that weird noise the one in the video did. Kinda sounds like a ratteling noise? Sure the og ps5 is okay?
every model comes with one of three different fans that make different levels of noise, and which one you get is totally random. So you might just have a quieter fan
Damn lucky me I guess
I was expecting the original to win this test
Hey bro I need your help can you tell me that why my PS5 got freeze or start crashing after one week of playing COD bro I installed 2 time MW3 campaign after that when internet off due to some reason after one week my PS5 start crashing or freezing just clicking on MW3 to play campaign or if I select mistake in offline MW3 without disc on PS5 my PS5 start crashing or freezeand why I can not campaign without internet
My ps5 pro plastic expands ones I play for a few hours is that normal???
Who puts their earlier near the PS5? Better to put mic about meter or more away.
So, If I measure like you my unit is like 45 - 47 with my device but it's accurate they say like plus minus 1,5 dB. If you lay it on top with the mic in the middle it's like 50 dB but with body in the middle on top its also like 45 dB or so. So maybe my unit isn't so bad but laying horizontal it is somewhat much more somehow. 🤔
Maybe with the stand I can get another 2 dB less. 😅
Why measure the back? My console is pointing towards me, I'd like to have a comparison from the front.
Out of the box my pro got so frickin loud. But after a day and an update it's been quiet ever since.
yes my slim for some reason just ram up the fan to the highest when in the inventory or pause menu of a game, at leats the my pro doesn't do that. But the fan is louder for sure, so i guiess you win some and lose some
Finnaly got a PS5
Never heard anything from either my launch ps5 or the pro.
Either I have been lucky or someone else has been really unlucky.
every model comes with one of three different fans that make different levels of noise, and which one you get is totally random. So you might have been lucky, it's basically 1/3 to get a quiet one
Now try this against the 10 fans in my gaming PC
the coil wine on my ps5 pro is so loud
I have a day one ps5 and sometimes I forget it’s on it’s so quiet
I guess you should have made the text flashing and 3x size at 0:35 can already see some people lack the ability to read.
Which is the best?
I have a random question.. my daughter's ps5 turns on and works fine, but has no indicator light? Any ideas?
As far as I know, you can dimm them, but not fully turn them off. So I think they must be either broken or someone at sony forgot to connect them to the motherboard.
