  • American Special Jazz bass and Yamaha BBP35 with both pickups on. First half is only DI with light compression and the second half is through Helix Native Ampeg SVT with 8x10 sim on. Both basses have medium old Ernie Ball Slinky strings and both have tone at 80%. Hope this helps someone!

The Yamaha has more grunt from the P style split neck coils but the Fender seems to have a more rounded softer tone within the mix. Both are great bass’

Hampus. This definitely helped me. After much research on what new bass to buy, I had narrowed it down to Fender Jazz or Yamaha BB735A (perhaps BBP35). So your video was exactly the AB comparison I needed. Perfect. (And excellent playing). Decision made. If a guy must choose between these two stellar instruments, then it must be BB35! Thank you for taking time to do this.

@@treyhanna4127 I'll be honest I have not played the BP35. I just currently own the BB735A. When I meant Its even better it was just based on the videos I have seen in comparison to the BB735A AND FENDERS etc. It was also just based on my own opinion. However even though the specs are identical to the BB735A the BP35 is made in Japan with IRA treatment which gives it a tone as if the bass as been played for years enhancing the tone. It has a much more growly tone. But it also depends on what you prefer. Someone who owns both said on one of the vids the sustain of the BP35 is a much better. I love my BB735A im still in awe of such quality of what yamaha has put into this instrument. I have played other basses within the same price bracket and nothing compares. That's just my opinion though. Would be nice to get proper insight of someone who actually owns both. Check Miki Santamaria he demos both of these instruments.

I own both and it's a different tone from each, but both excellent. The BB is fatter and warmer where the Jazz is punchier with that classic mid scoop.

Very well-made video, Hampus. Appreciate you using decent lighting and proper audio equipment. Nice, clean playing as well. Gotta go with the Yamaha, but it's uncanny how close the PJ can be to the Jazz. Thing I found with mine is that you're never really gonna "scoop" out that PJ's midrange organically like you just automatically do with the Jazz configuration.
