This scena from Il Pirata was performed in May 1959 in Hamburg. It is instructive to observe Callas's hands and arms, positions of the head and her telling eyes, all at one with the drama in Bellini's music. In November of that year I was fortunate to hear her as Medea in Dallas and observe her closely only three rows (center) away from the stage. We are fortunate indeed that some precious visual images of her in performance have been preserved.
opertutto I hadn't even been born that year(I was born the year after). I have noticed her beatiful fingers how they bent upwards. I could say I wish I had been born a lot earlier so I could see her too from close but I would be an old greek lady now, haha.
You revived Il pirata after it had lain dormant - forgotten - and imbued it again with all the pathos your voice and marvellous musicianship were capable of.
Espectacular! Además del canto, la actuación , dicción e impronta que tenía en cualquier escenario ! #mariacallas #callaspersempre #ladivina #unica #callas
I wish we had the recording of her singing the full opera at La Scala the previous year with Corelli and Bastianini, instead we have a concert performance from New York which has a rather sub-par supporting cast, I hope that the La Scala performance has been preserved and will be released someday
Young opera lovers shouldn,t hear this. After that, if they hear this scene by someone else, except Caballe, and even by the best modern sopranos, they would be frustrated by the lack of the strengh of chest notes. O tempora, o mores...
The lack of strength... soul... and one of the most important things in art PATHOS... messege from a young opera lover that only wants to hear callas friede hempel emmy desttin elvira del hidalgo rosa ponselle tetrazzini tebaldi cabllet... but nowadays we have almost an exception saoia hernandez, she doesnt still control the high notes, but what a voce di petto she has, caballet said she was the best 21 century soprano and wish she can improve :)
@@moisessalaslopez5352 I agree about Saioa Hernandez. I shouldn't hear her in I Lombardi this season but couldn't because of the covid. Ohime... You are right: chest notes give most of the pathos.

Yes, in the Caballé interpretation, without variations, is more like Casta Diva. When says "l'orrore" is like "Deh regnar" ua-cam.com/video/5O1EZyk9J2Q/v-deo.html
Dear Maria...A PIRATA has stolen your life and your Career...Or may be you were tired of fighting with the Media ...You wanted to perform always at Callas standard but this became more and more difficult...
It often amuses me what people pick on such a divine performance. Can you think of any other soprano, past or present, who can beat her involvement and artistry of this scene?! She remains a legend for a reason.
not sure what you mean...flexible, vibrato not out of control, and some remarkable dynamic control. No spreading either. As for questionable choices in chest timbre and darkened mid-voice exclamations, they were choices. Perhaps not optimal, but eh.....still beats Netrebko, Angela Meade, etc

I Hate Opera....but Love Maria Callas ♥️
No one today would sing this aria as a recital piece with such dramatic effect; unique to her only. Wonderful.
Most definitely
Ни сегодня, ни в прошлом, ни в будущем, - никто никогда не сможет даже приблизиться к ней!
DIVINA DI NOME E DI... CANTO
Impossibile, neanche solo immaginare una voce e una interpretazione che possa nascere e che possa migliorare tale interpretazione. Mai potrà accadere!
Io sto studiando quest'aria per portarla a qualche concorso.
She doesnt even has to sing to be absoluty, utterly captivating... The talent....!!! ❤
I have no words. She's the best. Im transfixed. She's so great. She sings w her whole body and soul.
The incredible Maria Callas. Still to this day.... the absoluta Prima Donna
how lucky we are to hear her voice.she is the greatist .
Oh Maria! What a wonderful singing actress you were! What a precious musical legacy you left us!
What a great musician and a marvellous interpreter of Vincenzo Bellini's beautiful melodies!

I don't know why but the instruments sounded almost as if I'm listening to Casta diva

Why she sings at 5:22 "Di tenebra fonda"? If the song is "O sole ti vela di tenebre oscure"
Its the Cabaletta finale
@@WelshHomo87 I know, but I mean she's singing it differently. The scores say "tenebre oscure". She says "tenebre fonda"

@partituravid just listen to Callas between 1949 and 1953 and compare the state of her voice and her ability to control it.
El fantasma de la opera
Sole mio
Chi mai : ennio morricone...
Ben voyons : Callas avait ce soir là oublié la partition : à court d'aiguës, elle avait fait ce qu'elle pouvait ➡️ pas grand chose !
