- Hi guys welcome back! Today we reacted to a special, PayPal request sent to us. We had listened to Deftones before, but this song was a little different to the last one we had listened to. Although it wasn't really our kind of music, we always enjoy discovering new songs, so thank you for this request!!

The funny thing about this song is Maverick record company forced Deftones to do it because considered they still did not have a commercial single that was top sales and Chino (Vocals) and the rest of the band reluctantly, angry and sarcastically made this song in a hurry , using the song -Pink maggit the last track of the White Pony, nobody imagined that it would be so successful, as a result of this success Maverick released a re-edition of the White Pony with this theme as track 1, although Chino never liked it and the group considers the first edition without this song as the true and original album. that's why it seems to you that it doesn't sound like deftones usually does XD
Thank you. Label wanted a Limp Bizkit type song and Deftones were like, “Fuck that, but we’ll show you how damn easy it is to make a song like that” and they KILLED IT with this song. Fuck you label 😂

I do remember buying the original version and it came with a card with a code to download back to school.
That's cool and all and I love Chino and this album, but most of their music sounded just like this before White Pony so it wasn't a completely foreign sound, despite how much Chino "hates" the track lol. He must hate all of their older stuff then in that case.
@@MrFoxxx47simple he was a teenager when he wrote stuff for adrenaline and was in his early 20s when around the fur came out. In 2001 he was nearly 30 so as we all do he simply grew past that time in his life it’s rlly not that hard to understand this is wayyy after that sound in Deftones

Back to School (Mini Maggot) is a shortened version of the song Pink Maggot (Hence Mini Maggot in the title). The label wanted a shorter song that included the rap elements that were making bands like Limp Bizkit so popular at the time. Chino acquiesced but has said that he hates the song. Pink Maggot includes none of the rap verses and is much longer and is better, though I do still like this song.
I never got why Chino hated this and didn’t rap more because he’s a good rapper, I love the rap verse on 7 Words which along with this are my favorite Deftones songs, I love all their stuff but those were my favorites
DarkMike85's Dark World he wasn’t a fan of how overflown the nu metal became with average & below average bands. He didn’t wanna be lumped in with them

No they didnt. This had ZERO to do with the label. The Deftones had turned that corner. This was a throwback, back to school. Circa 1995 Adrenaline. A conscious choice. ANY suggestion the Deftones cowtowed to the label to produce a limp bizkit type track would insulting to the band. Sorry
Deftones is amazing...And new album coming soon. So perfect time to discover their music

"Bored" started it all. Everyone use to bump it. I remember a stranger driving next to me one night asked me what that song is. This was probably 1999 or 2000.

I think Rosemary is a really good one, but it is like Digital Bath in that it goes back and forth from calm to heavy. That's kind of Deftones thing to be honest...

Try Deftones - My Own Summer. This song isn't real Deftones
funny thing. i was trying to look for the long version of this song and landed on this channel. the reaction was definitely funny. one of the cool things about deftones lyrics is that you can interpret it anyway you want to. but for me the message from this song is that they are basically saying that society needs to have kids/teens in school b/c they will eventually be the future of society later on in life. whether those kids are punks, jocks, cheerleaders, rebels, nerds, etc. they will eventually become important to society and maybe some will even become leaders. so yeah, we'll go to school but don't judge us now or take us for granted cause you don't know what we will mean to the future. actually this one of my favorite songs next to XERCES.

Let me drop the 411 about this song. The record companies at the time of 1998 to 2005 were making money off of Nu-Metal which consists of Rap, metal, and alternative rock. Bands such as Limpizkit, Korn, Mudvayne ect;these bands were all doing this Nu-Metal style of music. And when the deftones finished recording their album white pony; The record company asked the deftones lead singer Chino Moreno to write a Nu-Metal type of song. Chino Moreno wrote the song in 10 minutes and the record company re-released the white pony album and put this "back 2 school" song on the re-release of the white pony album. And the reason why the lead singer of the deftones band Chino Moreno sounds like he's winning its because it's actually an pro tools effect like hes singing into a walkie talkie. If you listen closely you can clearly hear that its an effect.

Chino came out and said this song was a mistake. It wasn't even on the album initially but the record company "wanted a single" so they slapped this song together based on part of the last track "Pink Maggit," hence the "Mini Maggit" deal, and the album was re-released with this as the first track.

Deftones has different sounds. This was from the 90s. Early music. They don’t do this anymore. This is more hard rock and punk, mixed in with rap. Trying to find their way. They do not sound like this anymore.
Doesn’t matter, the earlier the Deftones the better

LA213 BLANCO they’re too good to try and box them in like that.. one of the few truly unique sounding bands in music. They came out of the NuMetal era and just shined brighter than any of them in my opinion. I never thought they’d make more than 2 albums, I thought people just wouldn’t get it and I just kept jamming those first 2 albums all the time, then White Pony hit and it was like “See, I told you all these guys were badass”.. and they’ve stayed consistently awesome, all their albums jam, there’s very few songs I don’t like.. they are easily in my top 10 bands, stayed true to their art and it shows

My interpretation after hearing the context of the label's conformist request, was basically to reject authority and to embrace individuality. " Push back to square, now that you need us, but you don't, so there you go". Conform to what you think you know, but we molded your idealism of conformity. Run back to school, and relearn.
Chino make this song just to show the recor how easy was ti make a comercial hit ..

I also didn't enjoy Deftones at first, but I really liked their album "Diamond Eyes", which is a lot more mature and coherent in my opinion. Every song on that album is great.
If you want something interesting to listen to, then System of a Down's album "Storaged Melodies" has very good hidden gems. For example songs suchs as "The Metro", "Feel Good", "Friik" & "Blue". I don't think anyone has even reacted to this album on youtube.

Deftones older stuff is heavier(not knocking there new stuff definitely still have that edge but they mix it up more). Chinos screaming is legendary even tho he doesnt do it as much

It’s really disappointing that as reactionist you guys don’t take the initiative to pop up some lyrics to all your reactions, yet you’re going to ask everyone else to pull them up for you.
