It’s Fado style mixed with more contemporary music. Fado is Portugal’s music tradition. Eurovision should be a space where each country brings their own culture into it, Portugal has been doing this for years in the competition. We are proud of our roots, our history and our culture.
@iolandamusic created pure art with this performance! She translated so well Portugal and the theme of the song (mental health issues, resilience and strength) into this song, the dancers (her demons) poetically interpreting the powerful lyrics.
I’m so impressed with everything! Her voice, her performance, the melody, the back vocals, the instruments, inclusive of our ‘cavaquinho’, the dancers, the direction of camera, the entire production - all together enhancing the song perfectly and so beautifully.
I can’t express enough how proud I feel for Ioland to represent my country with this masterpiece!

Hi. I´m from Portugal. The name of the song is SCREAM and in my opinion is a song that talks about resilience, survivence, never give up, she says she is a flame that steals burn, after all the problems she fights and the inside flame never stop burning.

It's the mental strugles that life sometimes impose upon us...That creates aspects of ourselves (demons if you want) we have to learn to accept and deal with. I think she came to that space...the white here represents she came to a place of peace. That also explains the masks...they're aspects of herself thus have no identity of their own, also explains why she hardly moves with them, she's firm and centered and doesn't "dance" along with them anymore. In the chorus she keeps repeating: "Im the flame that still burns...still burns". And then the Scream,....which is the tittle of the song...and the demons go away with that scream. Something we all can relate to, at least to a point.

Portugal holds a contest every year "Festival da Canção", and usually, Portugal is the last country to choose their representative, so that's why the MV sent to Eurovison is the live performance in the contest, no time to make a MV of it. Last year they made a MV , a few days before the Eurovision Contest and almost no one saw that, was too late.

If one doesn’t like this song that’s life and the wind doesn’t shift direction because of that. Perhaps you do not comprehend the role of the lyrics here or in a song? It’s easy to have fun and throw your legs and arms around shaking a foolish head and an empty heart. There’s a message in this song, there are country influences in its composition, there is a message even in the dancers that synchronise with the actions she describes. The fact that their faces are covered has also a purpose, one doesn’t focus on the dancers facial expressions but perceives it as part of the narrative the singer expresses. They represent demons that set you back in life. It’s a story developing before your eyes narrated by a beautiful voice screaming out as a way of expelling the bad that sets you back, the lack of purpose in life due to depression and other problems a person faces. In the end there’s a message of hope, of forgiveness, perseverance “a flame that still burns, still burns.” Grito means scream, not shout.
